After about a month of owning this unit the DVD player would malfunction, it stopped playing the disc after about 40 minutes and got stuck on one frame. I could restart the disc but the same thing would happen. It was not a defective disc since this happened over 20 times. If I waited about an hour, I may be able to get it going again and finish the movie.

After about 9 months would stop playing audio CD’s after the 4th or 5th track. No amount of cleaning would fix this problem. Has very good sound and video when playing DVDs and VHS.

Versatile, but problematic

After 5 months use, the player started being unresponsive when switched from VCR to DVD mode. You would have to power it off to get it to respond when powered up again. A few weeks later, the DVD portion would lock during a DVD playback. The only way to get it to play again, was to unplug it and start over. Then it would play only for 15 to 20 minutes and lock up again. I am unhappy that a product from Hitachi has this issue. I have a 55″ Hitachi TV, purchased in 1990, that has been faultless!
