Bad Product / Bad Customer Service (HP)

I purchased my HP Pavilion dv2000 cto from HPShopping.com in late May ‘07. It took several weeks to receive it and when I did I had various problems that caused me to call HP support 1-2 times per month, of which they never resolved any issue.
One of these problems was a very noisy CD-DVD drive, which stopped me from watching DVDs or listening to books on CD. Which is odd, given this was marketed as an entertainment/media PC.
In early Jan ‘08 this PC would not boot up but a dos message showed that I should contact the manufacturer as it had either a hard drive failure or a CD-DVD drive failure. I contacted HP and they sent me replacement hard drive (160gb), cd-dvd drive and recovery cd. After installing all I realize my factory installed software, of this custom build PC, was either missing or not working. E.G. MS OFFICE package, which HP did not give me CDs for, was asking for a key code.
HP has arranged for this PC to go to repair, but it came back with same problem plus a few more. HP then promised to send me a replacement PC but it never arrived. Escalation thru Corp as case manager wouldn’t return calls. Next case manager tells me he won’t help me until I send back HP parts (the broken parts) and he’ll send me labels & packaging material for me to ship back. Time goes by, passing the date he said I’d have this packaging and I call back. He says he’ll “expedite packaging again” (this is after a week), but that he still won’t help me resolve my PC issues until HP gets their broken parts back.
I get matched up with another case manager who insists on sending my PC back to repair again, confident HP repair will fix it this time! Ha, it comes back with same problems plus more. This time I can’t even open the CD-DVD drive! He promises to send me a replacement PC in ten days, but it has never arrived. I’ve called him many times and he doesn’t return my call.
While my PC is still under warranty, I’ve had it with HP and am now pursuing this matter in a legal forum.
HP has absolutely no integrity and truly doesn’t care about their customers. I’ve been searching the web and there are just too many stories of unhappy HP customers and far too many that have spent months and months being jerked around by HP when a problem occurs with an HP product.
I’ll never buy an HP product again.

Good Laptop

Hey, I am a computer graduate and my profession is to develop Software’s.
I bought an Hp Notebook on Dec, 2007; I spent around $800 and got an AMD (2.2 GHz, Turon), 2GB Mem, Vista, Webcam/Mic/Fingerprint.
My experience with my Notebook is awesome; I might have switched it off hardly a couple of time otherwise its running continuously for the last 4 months and it never heated. Believe me my roommate is having a Dell Laptop and my machine is far cooler than his.
AMD is superb processor. AMD Rocks…..
People generally think that processor makes noise, actually processor never makes any sound; all that you hear is the sound produced by the Fan sitting on the processor. This fan is there to chill out the processor, which gets heated when processing a job.
One more thing; my processor fan was making some hissing sound all the time, which means the processor, is always at work. Then later I discovered that
the processor has to spend lot of energy on keeping the brightness of the screen, so all I did was I adjusted (reduced) the brightness of my screen and the processor went pin-drop silent, you need to play around a couple of times to find that specific brightness at which process runs easy (make it to slightly more than half), this would also reduce the heat that any processor generates.
This option is available in Control Panel.
You will find lots of people telling you about heating problem etc. but I think every Laptop heats. I have examples in my friend circle that had Dell/Sony etc. and their Processors/Motherboards were literally burnt because of heat. One of my friends Laptop can never be used on a Lap because it emits so much of heat and it’s a SONY Vaio. One of my friends got his hard disk replaced 3 times and it’s a Dell. After all it’s an electronic product, anything can go wrong, and so it’s all your luck and nothing about HP or Dell or SONY.
So just go for a machine that best suits your need and pocket. Have a relaxed and nice time.

Never Buy HP

HP: The name itself suggests its is no good.
I bought a dv2000t notebook and after 7 months I found a lot of problems with it like overheating, automatic shut down, etc. When I called customer service, who are a bunch of guys who do not care about the customers, they told me to send the laptop in for repair.
After 2 months I didn’t get my laptop. This is the way they treat the customers and they never talk politely! The common answer I heard is they can’t do anything at this point of time. So people, beware of of the HP dv2000t and don’t buy any HP products!

Never buy HP

January 21, 2008 @ 10:48 AM37pam1>
I have ordered the dv2500t notebook pc from HP online store for about a one and half month back, I got the notebook in just 10days after building in china. On 19th December I got it and after doing the set up this laptop started giving me problem from the very first hour itself.
1) The problem was weird the memory in the hard drive was keep on decreasing automatically even if am not storing data in it. I called up technical assistance and they ask me to perform recovery on the day 1 of my new product. I perform the recover but no result.
2) contacted again the HP guys and they ask me to do the hard disk test which took 75 min. The memory check passed.
3) I called again and they perform some updates on it but no results, so they drop my call.
4) Called again they performed disk cleanup, defragmentation everything but no result.
5) Finally on day 5th they said they will be sending a recovery disk which took almost 4 days to reach me, on December 28th I called them again saying I have got the CD and performed the recovery and the memory is still losing. So they sent me a FedEx box where I have to send the laptop to the service centre. I got the box on 2nd of January and send it to them on 4th January.
6) The estimated delivery for my laptop was 16 January when I didn’t get my laptop I called them again and ask about the shipment and they said they will send me a new one.
7) When I called again on 17th of January they said the delivery date for my laptop is 30th of January, which screw me up and I ask them either exchange my laptop with new one or give me my money back and their response was very bad and said they won’t send a new one after calling again and again they forwarded my call to sales manager and she was another mess.
8) I explained her my case and what happened to me and they way I am suffering with my brand new product, her response was Ãâshe can’t I do anythingÃâ. I ask her what that means. So she replied the product is in repair centre and they can’t do anything until I get my product back by 30th January. I told her can you replace the product if it is not fixed when I get back and her reply was as the product was with me for more than 21 days and as per the HP return policy (within 21days) I have to send it back but at the moment I am not applicable which is the stupid thing anybody ever hear. I was trying to be more patient with these guys and they broke it The problem with my laptop was from day 1 itself, on my first call when I asked HP customer executive they assure me to send me a new notebook if they couldn’t solve my issue.
9) Well I got my laptop back today luckily and I was so happy to see it back I switched it on and in 15 minutes again 1GB memory was gone. I run it for 3 hrs and I lose around 5 GB of memory I think today I called them for about 20 times and nobody is bothered the case manager was suppose to give me a call but she didn’t . I think they are least bothered about the customer.
10) I think during this case I called them for abut more then 50-60 times and nobody bothers about my pain. I am a student I go to school and who else know the worth of laptop. I am going to library in -5 degree centigrade to do my work after paying $900 for this product.
Please don’t ever buy this product or any product from HP, my sincere to you all.

Great laptop for student, 10 months+ and going
By: Grant
December 3, 2007 @ 11:14 AM19pam12>
I’m a grad student and this is my first laptop. I’m aware that there’re many mixed reviews about this machine, with problems ranging from stuck keys to dim screens to slow processing speeds and a too-slick finger pad. According to the number of bad reviews, people seem to get “duds” a lot, which may turn you off this laptop, but luckily, mine, has been great so far and wanted to let people know about a positive experience with the dv2000t.
Pros: I like this machine’s style, performance and portability. I usually carry it around in a laptop backpack (usually with papers and textbooks sometimes crammed in pretty tightly) and have had no issues with durability or cracked cases so far (I’ve been using it every day for over 10 months now). I won’t be testing how much weight it can endure, though, since its casing is mostly made of plastic. It does have quite a few scratches on its “scratch resistant” lid, but its sleekness is enough that I don’t mind.
The screen is clear, bright and displays crisp edges with no dead pixels (I received a QDS-make matte screen so I can’t comment on the glossies) and the keyboard is quiet and functional despite some overheating (which I blame on Vista’s memory hogging). When on, the fan is audible, but discreet, and I don’t understand the fuss over the touchpad. I use it all the time. It’s slick, yes, but it works as well as any I’ve used before. Just adjust its sensitivity to your liking and you’ll get used to the smooth feeling. The touchpad buttons are accurately described as “cheap” feeling in that they give very easily and you press farther down (gives the impression that they’re loose), but they work. What else do you want in a button?
I don’t play memory-hogging games so I don’t know how well it performs in heavy-use gaming contexts, but I do use programs like Photoshop with very large files which killed my desktop, and I can have music playing and a web browser open and several IM programs on and everything is still pretty fast. I do have 2 Gigs of memory, though.
The ports are all functional and I found the 3 USB ports, the SD card slot and S-video cable port very useful. I’m able to get wireless connections from a decent distance and I have a built-in webcam, which is also extremely handy. The mica is very sensitive and the picture is decent.
The dv2000t is quite light (5 or so lbs), so it’s great for a student who travels between the office, lab and home a lot.
Cons: the battery life is definitely not that great, though I don’t have to use it away from an outlet much. I normally use the 6 cell battery (now I get maybe an hour+ with music, web surfing and word processing, thanks again to bulky Vista), but I also bought the 12 cell, which I store in my fridge when not in use since it does add to the weight.
This machine also can overheat easily if you have many large programs going, especially in a hot room or on a soft surface. I have a program running that monitors its temp and shuts it down when it gets too hot. I’m going to get a cooling pad, which I think will solve the problem. This overheating issue doesn’t happen enough for me to dislike all the good things about this laptop.
Overall, I’ve had a great experience with the hp dv2000t so far. Granted, I haven’t had to deal with customer service, though I haven’t heard of any computer companies these days with fantastic CS. Hopefully I’ll never have to deal with that, because if HP does its job and sends it to you fully functional as was the case for me (I ordered it online), and you treat it well, it’s a great laptop and at this point I don’t see myself regretting my decision to buy it.

Pavilion DV2000 - HP BAD Laptop
By: Nelo
December 3, 2007 @ 10:47 AM03pam12>
I have recommend hp as a great laptop option, but this is the first time a see is not always the best. This dv2000 have a serious problem. I got this from a friend to try to help him. At the beginning the problem was the screen freeze with a thousand or lines on it, after you were not enable to do anything else than just turn it off. I have search for updates, firmwares or anything else could help. After few days fighting with it I decided to install Windows XP pro sp2, and I think it work better than vista, faster and doesn’t freeze so often, CHECK I said often, because it still freeze more than Windows XP usually does. And of course not every works on XP, because HP doesn’t give support for XP. So you can try to use this machine more like a typewriter machine and not like the multimedia laptop they say. Because you can’t use the sound and webcam. At least I found the drivers for the wireless looking for it on Intel site, not on hp. I’m still thinking to install ubuntu but not tried until now. I will let you know. If someone now a good way to fix this stupid laptop let we know it.

BAD LCD, WINDOWS VISTA IS SLOW AND FREEZES , Cannot install XP, AVOID!
By: Anthony
November 16, 2007 @ 10:52 AM10pam11>
To start, I bought this laptop because my job involves a lot of travelling and I need a fast and reliable laptop. I did the research and I purchased a HP Pavilion dv2317us.This laptop replaced a laptop I gave to my sister for school which was HP pavilion zv6312 (AMD x64 with 2 GB ram win XP). The specs labeled for this Laptop is an Intel core 2 duo running at 1.78 GHZ (model #s make no sense) it’s a centrino duo processor which means nothing until I am running on batteries. It came with 1 GB ram (2×512MB) I plugged it in and turned it on and ran through the setup and everything looked neat and cool, but it was SLOW, I know Vista recommends 2 GB of ram so that same day I added 2×1024MB sticks of MEMORY, and turned it back on. I DID NOT SEE A DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE. I timed the loading from boot up to login after the 5th time and it was about 2 MIN 18 SECONDS. Where it became frustrating was after I login it takes another 2 MINUTES and 47 SECONDS and it’s been like that ever since. So now I just leave it in standby. Also another thing that is TERRIBLE about this is when I go to lock it when I use CTRL-ALT-DEL it takes between 10 and 42 SECONDS TO RESPOND, where on my windows XP machine no longer that 3 seconds it took to respond. So I knew from experience that it had to do either with the system board or the hard drive. I ran a performance tool called memtestx86 on the memory and it was fine. I also ran a test on the hard drive. And it was working fine. I used SiSandra to test the laptop system board and it returned poor results, results so poor that I was surprised that HP would actually sell this Laptop with this configuration. IT DOES NOT COME WITH THE SOFTWARE DISK!
After countless hours over a month with HP technical support, they claim that the problem is with windows Vista and that I would need to contact Microsoft for driver updates and technical support. After 10 Minutes with Microsoft they told me that I would need to contact HP support for hardware and driver updates because it may be an issue with the laptop and although it is slow it should not freeze to the point of turning it off. ACCORDING TO HP I CANNOT DOWNGRADE TO XP. I have had this Laptop for 6 months now and I WISH I DID NOT HAVE ALL THESE PROBLEMS WITH THIS HP LAPTOP and that I had the time to take it back to the store, but the return policy expired. I could sell it but I don’t want anyone coming back on me saying I ripped them off.
If you buy a newer laptop it should be faster than the previous one; this is not the case.
BEWARE WHEN BUYING HP LAPTOPS YOU MAY GET A LEMON!

Not portable, not durable, very poor customer service, very limited bu
By: UniversityStudent
February 23, 2007 @ 3:44 PM54ppm2>
As an engineering student I depend on my notebook for nearly every aspect of my education. I bought this product expecting a durable design, but after less than two months my LCD screen cracked while the computer was closed.
THE DAMAGE: The damage occurred while in the padded compartment of my backpack. The tech I spoke with stated that the damage was the result of some sort of pressure to the screen. Because the computer was closed when the damage occurred I feel the back panel of the screen failed to protect the LCD, which to me indicates a design flaw. However, the tech insisted that the damage must have occurred from the front and that I somehow opened the notebook incorrectly; I am competent enough to know how to correctly open a notebook. The case manager I spoke with, after being belittled by the tech, accused me of closing an object between the screen and the keyboard, or being “too harsh” with my notebook. I treated the notebook with great care and, again, I am competent enough to know not to place objects on my keyboard, much less close the notebook on one. Also, if my careful, everyday usage is not delicate enough for this notebook, then it’s not made to be portable and would be better advertised as a small desktop. More importantly, this notebook should not be advertised as student friendly if it is not durable enough to withstand student usage.
WARRANTY: HP advertises their “Total Care” as “a lifetime support and services program that provides you with greater peace of mind”. However, as I quickly learned the standard warranty they claim provides “One year parts and labor, including return of equipment to HP and authorized service provider options," does not cover any physical damage, as was explained to me by my case manager. Furthermore, the cost to repair my notebook was quoted as $752, but currently the listed price on the HP website (after a rebate) is $630! So basically, they’re charging me over $100 more to fix my computer than I would pay to get a new one… what a deal! Additionally, when I asked the tech what the price breakdown was he said the part itself was over $600, but the case manager I spoke with told me the part alone was $400-$500, they could at least be consistent on the part price.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: I feel like the customer service provided to me was lacking in effectiveness and respect. Not only did HP try to charge me more than the cost of a new computer to fix the damage, but I had to defend my competency as well as my ability to use a notebook correctly with every person I spoke to.
RESULT: In the end I have chosen not to have HP fix the damage and have found the part elsewhere for $250 and will be having my dad (an electrical engineer) install the new display. I, personally, will never purchase from HP again and plan on making sure that my friends and family don’t either, lest they have the same negative experience as myself.

Poor LCDs in later production
By: kelkoo
October 20, 2006 @ 1:15 AM59pam10>
Most forums tell a sad tale about this machine. Earlier DV2000Ts sported excellent LCDs by AU Optronics and Quanta. But virtually all newer DV2000s are being delivered with a dramatically inferior Samsung LCD (SEC 4242). I’ve had both, and the quality difference is astonishing. Hard to believe HP even calls them by the same model#.
If you order this machine, make sure you can get a 100% refund (HP will not allow you to choose the panel). Do a web search for SEC, QDS, AUO and DV2000T to find out how to use Control Panel to determine which LCD they send you. Then realize all these great reviews you read were mostly written by people with either an AUO or QDS panel.
I’m rating the machine a 4. Six weeks ago, with the better LCD’s being the norm, I would have given it a 9. Very sad situation.

Fantastic Multimedia machine

October 15, 2006 @ 12:15 AM32pam10>
Im response to Kole:
You must have the ultra crappy SEC screen (shame on you Samsung for making such junk). The other possible LCD screens that can come with the DV2000 are very nice, especially the QDS and AUO screens.
My short review:
Very stylish and functional. Great screen, and decent battery life with the extended battery. My only complaint are the buttons to the touchpad, but I almost always use my VX Revolution mouse anyway.

I heard that Dell E1404 LCD display was horrible.
Therefore, I decided to go with HP dv2000t. However, dv2000t LCD is also horrible. It is grainy. I could not see the small picture in the newspaper. I do not understand why so many people love dv2000t LCD. Be aware HP dv200t LCD.

The HP DV2000t is a wonderful laptop with all the features one would require. It’s got great looks, great battery life, great features with importance given to detail. The laptop is very quiet and surfing the web, processing everything is very smooth. The only glitch is the mouse trackpad buttons which need to be pressed deep to click which is not very comfortable.

Great Laptop for Everyday Tasks
By: Tyler Weeg
September 26, 2006 @ 9:27 PM35ppm9>
Well I got a DV2000T laptop and I have got to say Im loving it. The one I got is basically loaded to the brim, with a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor at 2.00GHZ, 2GB of ram, and the camera, with 2 mics. Everything is maxed out. It also came with the Nvidia Go 7200 graphics card with 128 MB of memory. The laptop doesn’t lag at all. When I first got it, what I did was install Half Life 2 WHILE unistalling all the bloatware, and grabbing music, and photos from my local network. It didn’t lag one bit. And the laptop is great for gaming. I can play Half Life 2 at all High settings with trillinear filtering, and bloom hdr, at 1024×768, and I NEVER get lower than 60FPS. This latop is an amazing computer overall. I got it for 1500 dollars with tax and everything from costco.com so it was an amazing deal to. Hope this helps, and have fun if you buy it.

Just 5.5 lbs with the battery installed. The screen is great and the NVidia graphics chip is OK, better than Intel onboard. Would have been nice with an ATI Xseries. Great Turion X2 processor. Don’t care about the touchpad like the other reviewer because I always use a mouse. Good price for the features although they should stop taking almost 20 percent of the harddrive for hidden restore files and multimedia playback. If HP is going to keep doing that it should put at least 100 Gigs in. That’s the only real drawback to this unit.

My cousin bought a DV2020CA. It was spec’d out with a AMD Truion but it seems the trackpad on these DV20** are crap. It jumps all over the place even after adjusting the synaptics settings. Also doesnt feel right. I have a Dell and LG laptop to compare it too and there is a huge difference. Keyboard is nice and keys are positioned well. LOTS of useless software bundled with it. I spent more time uninstalling crap then I did installing there was so much junk
