Wow as Bill would say this screen is brilliant, I have had it for a while now and cannot find 1 problem with it. Everyone that sees it comments on how much a + it is having 23", so size does matter after all.

I received my hp 2335 yesterday. The image quality and plain ‘ole size is awesome. Games, movies etc. display beautifully. However, starting at the bottom of my screen, approximately centered around the menu button (if it was on the screen) I have radially extending rings of darkish shadows that are about 1.25 in apart. The rings are about 3/32 in wide and faid as you go farther up and eventually vanish. Has anyone else seen this? Should I ask for a new one? I have a WinFast A400 GT graphics card.
thanks

Great display

This is an awsome display. Attached to my G5-2×2 it
has never shown any artifacts. I play games (Halo) and design work (Canvas) with great response and colors. The ONLY thing that bothers me is that HP has dropped the 2335 after so short a time. Info cannot be found on their site and all I find is the NEW hp2304 which includes speakers. I can’t even find specs to compare my 2335 to the 2304 – that’s why it gets a 9 rather than a 10.

Like the last poster, I had horizontal stripes 2/3s the way up the screen. It would show shadows of the display from above or below. I was told by HP that I would receive a NEW monitor and not a refurbished one. I have to wait 5-7 business days for the replacement. I’m glad I paid $85.00 for next day air. THANKS HP!

Simply Beautiful

I’ve had this monitor for about 3 weeks and love it. I too play many 3d Games and haven’t noticed any ghosting. I’m using a Radeon X800 Pro and the perfomance of both of these technologies is great. There were no dead pixels on arrival but the brushed plastic casing can accumulate “rub dirt”. Essentially this is dirt from boxes, hands and such. It just takes a little elbow grease to rub it off. With the rebate from HP, it was apx 1700 and it was well worth it.

After being a CRT user all my life, I decided to jump into the LCD world with the HP 2335. Have not regreted this $1699 purchase at all-it’s worth every penny. This is a top notch monitor that’s excellent for 2D and 3D graphic applications as well as the latest 3D games. Check out my blog here:

Underrated
By: Robert H.
June 26, 2004 @ 5:20 PM30ppm6>
HP stumbled with information about this monitor because there are a couple different spec sheets floating around, but once you get a chance to sit down and use it, you will be blown away. As William stated, it does not have a true 16:9 aspect ratio at 1920×1200 resolution, BUT you cannot really notice the difference. The image quality is fantastic, crisp and bright. I do some graphic design work in Photoshop and with a 1920×1200 resolution, you can get a lot on the screen to work with and that makes a huge difference. Color reproduction is very accurate and that is important to a designer.

2335 WILL NOT do 1.78 through compo
By: William
June 25, 2004 @ 6:36 PM09ppm6>
Here is a post I made on AVS fourm about 1.78 and a copy of an e-mail I sent to HP about the problem.
http://atwnt947.external.hp.com/fd2/email_form.cfm?countrycode=US&langcode=en&sni=hpworkstat72270
I now have the 100% definitive answer to the big 2335 question. Will the 2335 display a signal from the component input at it’s correct aspect ratio?
NO it WILL NOT and it can’t be done
Curiosity was about to kill the cat so I had to see for myself. My 2335 was manufactured in May and I used a MyHD card hooked to the component inputs. I tried 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i with the same results. All signals were stretched vertically to fill the screen at 16×10 (1.6) and the 2335 would not display them at the correct OAR of 16×9 (1.78) no matter what I tried. The custom scaling is grayed out on the component inputs and therefore it is not relevant and has no effect. However to satisfy all possibilities I tried it all 3 ways. Also PIP is grayed out and is not relative but I moved the PIP towards the center to rule this out also.
We all need to e-mail HP about this problem. Maybe it can be fixed with a firmware update.
Copy of e-mail
I have a 2335 monitor and it has a design defect. When using the component (or S-video) input it displays and distorts the signal at the wrong aspect ratio. For instances an HDTV signal is stretched vertically from it’s correct aspect ratio of 16×9 (1.78) 1920×1080 to fill the 2335’s panel at 16×10 (1.6) 1920×1200 aspect ratio. For the correct aspect ratio there should be a black border of 1200-1080/2=60 pixels on the top and bottom of the screen. Love this monitor but I’m a stickler for correct aspect ratios. When will this problem be addressed and a firmware update issued?

HP's Website says 16:9
By: Ian Bell
June 25, 2004 @ 9:20 AM10pam6>
Hi William. The L2335 is capable of a 1920×1080 resolution which is the 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio you are referring to. Just to clear things up, I added a note on the bottom of the review under the conclusion. Sorry for the confusion. HP’s website also mentions a 16:9 aspect ratio on the L2335 http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/monitors/performance/l2335.html

Does the 2335 do 1.78 AR from compo
By: William
June 25, 2004 @ 6:53 AM54pam6>
The reviewer in the article incorrectly calls the 2335 a 1920×1200 16×9 (1.78) monitor (over and over). 1920×1200 is a 16×10 (1.6) aspect ratio, not 16×9 (1.78). I have read conflicting reports as to how the 2335 handles an HD signal (16×9 or 1.78) through the composite inputs. Unfortunately most people are unfamiliar with aspect ratios as the reviewer proves. To show HD (16×9 or 1.78) at it’s proper aspect ratio it should have black bars 60 pixels wide top and bottom on the 2335. If the picture fills the screen then it is stretched vertically and is displayed at an incorrect AR. I don’t have an HD composite input to check mine, but would love to know the answer. Can you get the correct AR using composite or S-video inputs?

Best LCD out now

I have had this LCD for about a month and it is by far the best I have seen, especially for gaming. The 19:9 format is great for movies and the response rate is awesome for games. So far no complaints from my end.

Great Monitor and HD Display!

June 23, 2004 @ 1:40 PM59ppm6>
I am running through DVI Digital at 1920×1200 and it looked beautiful! HD picture is more than acceptable through component connectors. Much better than with my CRT HDTV. I have played Unreal Tournament 2004 and it looks great at 1920×1200! Very highly recommend!

L2335 Difficulties
By: K. Barnes
June 23, 2004 @ 5:48 AM19pam6>
Quote:
I just unpacked mine (on 6/18/04) (P9615A) after ordering from HP Small Business. I could hardly wait to get this bad boy hooked up after reading the positive posts. When I fired it up for the first time using DVI, I had a 2″ wide strip of black pixels running from right to left across the middle of the entire screen….on every screen, including boot-up, shut down and bios.
WTF?!!
Hooked it up using VGA…same thing. Ran Dead Pixel Tester program, and the strip shows up as dead pixels. A 2″ strip of dead pixels? Is that possible?
The thing is…the picture above and below this “dead strip” is absolutely beautiful. I even tried Desert Combat for a few minuites just to get a look at it, and it looked awesome…except for the black strip.
I ran resolutions at 1920×1200 and 1600×1200, both looked equally great, except for the blacked out strip. Auto adjust feature worked well in VGA mode, but did not allow function in DVI mode. Swivel & pivot screen worked well.
Of course calls to HP tecnical support after hours on a Friday night promptly routed the calls thru Bombay, India where I was able to speak to someone I couldn’t understand after being on hold for 20 minutes. After doing my best to explain the issue, she said, “I can offer you a new monitor, but it might be a refurb.” Excuse me, but I don’t think so. So now I’m stuck with a striped monitor thru the weekend till I can get hold of the sales office on Monday.
Any ideas out there on what causes the black strip to appear? Solutions?
Setup:
Windows XP Pro (constantly updated)
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 (latest drivers)
1 gig Corsair PC4000 Pro TwinX DDR
Monitor: P9615A#ABA
Monitor manuf. April 2004
UPDATE: Just rec’d my second monitor from HP today thanks to an outstanding CSR in Colo. Springs. Hooked it up, and…same exact thing. Now I can see that the 2″ wide strip is not dead pixels because it is semi-transparent. On very white or light places, I can barely see beyond the black.
Spent 2 hrs. on the phone w/ Tier 2 HP Tech Support tonight, and they determined that I rec’d another bad monitor, so another one is on the way. Sheesh!
Don’t get me wrong, I want this monitor to work. I have been waiting for something like this.
Always open to suggestions?
