Will never buy another HP computer ever again!

I am an advanced computer user so I know what I’m talking about when I say that HP makes crappy computers. Even my computer tech friend says to stay away from HP from now on.
We have had to send in two HP laptops for complete rehaul – both were less than 3 months old. Now we have problems with the HP Slimline! Hewlett Packard gives the WORST customer service I have even seen. They held onto our laptop with excuses that they were backed up with repairs – took us over 2 months to get it back from sending in for repair and then we had to threaten to sue them if they didn’t get it fixed and returned. I spent HOURS on the phone fighting with them to get this done and they always made excuses. Then we had to send in yet another one of our HP laptops for repair that was barely a month old. System Recovery disks did not work – and they had to completely rebuild it – so BEWARE! They make faulty products, do NOT want to uphold extended warranty and will do everything they can to make your life miserable with dealing with them. I will NEVER buy another HP computer again!

A piece of junk
By: Gina
August 12, 2009 @ 1:43 PM23ppm8>
I am an advanced computer user so I can say after 3 HP computers, one desktop and two laptops, that my husband, who is computer illiterate, bought all three of them and that I will never own another HP computer, ever. HP Slimline lasted only a few months until things like the hard drive, CD drive stuck and failed and we have had to replace other parts that should have lasted a while.
We have two HP laptops that have had to be sent in for complete rehauls that were only a few months old after bringing home from the store brand new. Had to fight with HP to get one of our laptops returned, excuses from the top executives when I couldn’t get anywhere with customer service and they said that too many computers to repair to get ours done. Threatened to sue them after two and a half months when they would not return our fixed computer. HP has terrible customer service, does not stand behind their extended warranties, does not care if customer is satisfied after purchase. Never, ever will I buy anything from Hewlett Packard again. If I could rate this zero I would.

Problems with computer

I’ve had my computer less than one year. I’ve done a system restore that doesn’t make it work. Then I was told the motherboard was bad. Then I was told the hardware was bad. Then I was told that it was my video card. I’m now using it but it has a very slow start up and it continues to freeze.

won,t play my battlefield 2 game

Why won’t this system play my battlefield 2 game. This is insane that this computer can’t play a game with low specs. I think I want my money back unless you have a suggestion.

The Slimline

I’ve already replaced the motherboard on this product and it has crashed again. The store I bought it from has closed so now I have to search for the warranty company and pray they will help me. But honestly, I only had it back for a couple of months when it did the same exact thing so I’m thinking I got stuck with a lemon.

The last HP computer I will ever buy! BE CAREFUL

I’ve had problems with this PC!
After only 2 weeks, the motherboard was “Faulty”. Tech support then had to replace the front USB port, hard drive (which has a history of crashing I’ve been told), and the CD/DVD drive.
Read other reviews. If I could do it over, I would definitely not buy this!
Good luck if you do.

Don't buy this computer

This computer is the worst one I have ever used. Ball mouse was horrible. The space bar didn’t work on the keyboard. The motherboard keeps breaking and customer service was completely incompetent and didn’t care. HP has lost a lot of future business from me because of this computer.

Not bad when you add a few fans
By: Richard
September 29, 2008 @ 3:32 PM00ppm9>
I got a slimline that ran way too hot. Returned it in favor of a higher-end slimline, thinking it would run cool. Still hot. I bought a laptop cooling fan and took it apart and applied the fans to the back of the slimline. I leave it on all the time and it runs at the same temp as a regular computer. I remain confused as to how the issue with heat sailed passed HP, which tends to make exellent products. I received the slimline in the mail. They were were gracious enough to stack up an extra 2 gig memory to the 2 I had ordered. At 4 gig ram with AMD 2000 FSB, they take care of their customers.

This thing gets so hot, I could fry eggs on it. Even at 2 gigs ram it renders slowly. I kept loosing the preview handler. Finally got fed up with Vista, stripped the HD and loaded XP. I removed everything that wasn’t essential to basic computing. Still hot. Removed the case, still hot. Added a fan, then another, HD gets to 50c in a flash. Aimed a house fan at it, that helped. I ended up parting it out and using the case as a bookend. CRAPOLA BABY !!! If you do heavy graphics and 3d, avoid this machine like the plague.

Sleek Design
By: Melissa
January 15, 2008 @ 12:54 PM20ppm1>
I bought this computer in August 2007, and at first, I was quite excited about getting a new computer for the first time in four years. I thought I got my money’s worth until the fan that keeps the system cool would turn on every 10 seconds or so when I visited certain websites, played my favorite CD ROM games or watched DVD’s. Sure programs generate a lot of heat, but what gives the computer the right to come on and scare you with its loud noise? If your able to tolerate a computer that scares you with a loud fan when you visit certain websites or play CD ROM games, have fun, but if you’re not, do not waste your money on this piece of junk. No computer built should have a fan that comes on and scares you when you don’t expect it to.
The only things I like about the computer are its picture clarity and sleek design. This summer, this computer’s going in the garbage!

Good for the price

I bought one of these from a CompUSA auction for $260 plus shipping. Great buy as long as you’re willing to do some upgrades. I dumped 2 GB of Corsair Valueselect in it for $45 and a Sapphire PCI Express 256 MB low profile video card in it and its better than ever. Current Vista scores are 5.1 Memory, 5.8 Drive, and 3.5 Aero, 4.4 gaming and graphics, 4.8 on processor. Overall the rig cost me less than $400 and could not be happier with it. Still in shock the 160 watt power supply can handle the video card (although I did unplug the card reader to free up a few watts).

Wasted my money on temp computer!

I thought it was a great deal and was never told that the power supply was going to go within a year of purchase or I would have bought an extended warranty. The power supply replacement alone is $375!!! I now have a dead computer and it will cost me more to fix it then it did for me to buy it brand new! Do NOT buy this computer as no repair shops will touch it. The power supply is the first thing to go and will go fast if you use the computer more than twice a month!!!!

Don't waste time & money to upgrade video
By: B H Ingalls
September 10, 2007 @ 11:08 PM41ppm9>
I added a pocket media drive and upgraded the RAM to 2GB, other than that I recommend using this computer as configured. I don’t get the point of the spare PCIE video slot since this computer comes with only a 160 watt power supply. Any low profile PCIE video card, capable of improving the Vista video (3.0) score, will require a minimum of a 250 watt power supply. Given the cost to upgrade both, you would be better off just buying a computer that already has better Vista graphics capabilities built in.

The Only Thing I Don’t Like About it is the Vista. I can’t stand Vista. I’m even having XP installed back on there. There are way too many protected options. The set up on the XP is way simpler. Not everybody is a fricking genius on computers. And I know the computers specs. The rest is great. Vista does slow down the running capability a little too. But all in all it’s great. Lots of memory too. RAM is great. And the NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Card is awesome. The best on the market. And cheap for the deal at Best Buy.

I tried it but....

"no DVI output". What is HP thinking? WHO today is running a CRT monitor anymore? LCD monitors were made for DVI, DVI was made for LCD monitors.
I bought one of these Slimlines, the "retail version" that all the stores carry, and really liked its sleek looks and small size. It worked well! Finding after the fact that it has only a VGA output for my LCD monitor was only a mild disappointment, really. However, the Slimline (WEI of 3, a mediocre number hauled down by the Slimline’s mediocre integrated video)proved incapable of allowing Vista to display its Aero eye candies: No glass, no transparency, no dynamic tabs.
No explanation for this shortcoming came from HP, other than a fine-print disclosure common to all their mid and low-end machines, to the effect of saying that, if the computer’s hardware is not up to Vista’s standards for Aero, then Vista turns off Aero functions (but Vista does not tell the user about this, some joke, eh?)
The bottom line: I reluctantly returned the Slimline because I run a 20"LCD monitor, which apparently, is a bit too large for the Slimline’s graphics capacity to support along with Aero’s baggage of system demands.
Nice computer. Back to the store. Got a full sized HP a6000n desktop instead for less money, more performance. It ran Aero on this same monitor, no problem, even though its WEI rating is about identical.

I am very disatisfied with my computer that I bought just 13 months ago, my hard drive and power supply went out just right after the warranty was up. There is nothing I can do.
