Had the “Loading” problem with my DR-M10S. Called JVC in Woburn MA and they took care of it in just a couple of days. They are also the only JVC Factory service center that answers the telephone.

  2. Great at the start but deteriorated

Bought the unit in October 2004. Was absolutely delighted with it – no problems, apart from slight pixellation when using the time slip function on playback.

However, a large ‘rumbling’ noise starting drowning the sound, and worsened when the drawer was opened or closed.

Retailer had to refund money, as a large number had been returned with the same fault.

Was initially disappointed, but have bought the Panasonic DVD-RAM unit since, with no problems (yet!).

DVD-RAM is definitely king of the formats – it’s so versatile. Will buy a second unit as it has proved so popular in the home.

DVD-RAM fantastic time shift recordings – view one recording while recording another. Used Verbatum -rw and it rejected them.Went and bought Memorex and it rejected that too. Returned model to shop and bought a LG4912 – non DVD -RAM pity but it takes all + or – rw you can put in it.

Read some reviews and came across the LOADING problem.I had a cheap Liteon 5001 on loan from a friend and thoght it was very good but limited.Bought the JVC DRM10 yesterday in Dublin .All thumbnails disapperar on finalization unlike Liteon.Memorex and TDK -rw dicks get rejected with message ‘check disk’.Today machineflashesLOADING (see other reviews) and won’t come on. Spent 40 Euro on various disks RAM ok. and -r ok. Aviod this model – shame on JVC.

  5. Well do*****ented defect

These units have a well do*****ented “Loading Bug” problem. Search videohelp.com or avsforum.com to verify. After as little as a few days, the “Loading” message flashes on screen intermittently, each time wiping the disk clean. The frequency increases until the unit is unusable.

My Loading Bug started at 8 weeks. It was repaired under warranty, but the bug is back at 13 weeks, just past the 90 day warranty period and the JVC service facility’s 30 day repair guarantee. It takes 1.5 hours of labor at $90 per hour to fix the Loading Bug. JVC told me, however, they would re-fix the unit as a “courtesy.”

Incidentally, JVC offers extended warranties for its products on its website. I tried to purchase an extended warranty for the DR-M10S, but JVC doesn’t even offer one for this model.

When the unit does work, however, it records in picture quality that is excellent for the price point. The DVD-R’s I created have been readable in every other machine I have tried them in. Using the unit as a Tivo to watch a recording on DVD-RAM while it is still recording is great.
