  1. Kinda grainy, even in bright daylight.

I recently purchased this as a refurb unit. It came with everything that the original retail unit is packed with.

I swear, the first thing I thought when I touched the camera was, “Aiptek”. It just feels that cheap and flimsy.

Although the camera has a fairly strong feature set, at least as far as tweak-able settings go, the overall video quality isn’t that great. It’s grainy, even in bright daylight. Artifacts and smearing are apparent, even when viewing on your PC.

I have a JVC DVL-9500, which is ancient, and it has the same pixel resolution in its sensor as this camera. There is no comparison in quality.

Comparing the GZ-MS100 to a Samsung MX-10, which has similar capabilities, the Samsung wins hands-down for color saturation and overall quality. (The Samsung models use higher bit rates, which may be part of the explanation).

Overall, the camera is nice to have as a fall-back for quick shooting that doesn’t require good quality. Kids don’t care. They’ll love it.

Glad I didn’t pay close to full retail for it.

Windows does not recognize the files, to make a DVD. Roxio if you do not have there newest vertion it does not recognize files. There Cyberlink movie maker to DVD gives you no edding fuctions to alter movie. You can delete clips you do not want to record, but that is about all. If I had know this before I bought the camera I would not have bought it.

I bought this camcorder at an IT-Show in Singapore. I wanted something that’s cheap and not so complicated. I took this camcorder as a start and I used it with ease. I am not expecting so much from this camcorder, but it does give me the result that I need (at the moment). I would recommend the product if you are just looking for a camcorder that you need for just capturing the moment without the need of high definition.

I just bought this Camcorder today. I filmed something to try the one touch You-Tube Upload and it doesn’t even work. This camcorder records only in (.mod) and trying to get it to convert is really hard and difficult to figure out. I’m returning it tomorrow.

Well, taping a video is not too bad, but taking snapshots??? Why did they bother?? The pictures are so low in pixels that any attempt at blowing them up just destroys the pictures. All pictures are taken at 72 pixels which is great for the internet, but FORGET about trying to print off any images at the store because you’ll just be WASTING your money. I’m a little disappointed really.

  6. I don't care for this camera

I got this camera for Christmas and I don’t care for it already. The video quality is poor. The video comes out grainy and when in low light, the subjects and objects look very red and orange. If you’re outside in natural sunlight the video comes better looking but when inside in home lighting the video is grainy and red in color. I’m going to return this one for a different brand.

  8. Mpeg2 Versaes Mpeg4 or DV
    Paul

It should be noted that MPEG2 is a higher quality than MPEG4 as it is less compressed. This makes it easier to edit on a PC. As MPEG4 uses less memory space it has been adopted for High Def Video. This is a bit of a contradiction as the loss of quality caused by Mpeg4 Compression partly negates High Definition recording. Also the processing power reqired to edit on a PC means expensive machines and very slow rendering at best, if you can even get your editing software to recognise the ever increasing flavours of different manufacturers Mpeg4 compression. The best quality of all is the origonal DV (Digital Video) recorded on tape, but this requires 1 Gigabyte for 4.5 Minutes of Video. As SD memory gets cheaper EG it costs the same as a tape for the same recording time it may be that we will see solid state DV cameras. All the formats are capable of recording in High Def but so far only Mpeg4 cameras are readily available for High Def. Well done to JVC for being the first manufacturer to get it right for the domestic market, after all if your final storage media is DVD then origonal recording edited in the same format will mantain DVD quality.

  10. I liked it! Everyday person, not a camera fanatic.

If you are like me and not needing to spend much, need something without lots of whistles and bells, easy to use; then go for it. I’m not one who will use it often, I’ll use it minimal times before technology boosts and the next fantastic way to record is even affordable. I even liked the pictures it took, but I’m not in to professional photography, I just want a memory of fun and meaningful times. I don’t study my pictures or videos to critique them!
