So overrated!

Call me herectic, but I think the Koss Portapro is generally overrated.
I had read so many reviews praising the PortaPro that I decided to get them.
All sounds sound good, but mid-range bass (about 40 to 100) is so horribly emhasized that you’ll be lucky to hear anything else properly. Forget about hearing low bass, it will be suffocated by mid bass.
This model is really old. and it sounds like one. This kind of sound was cool in the seventies, not anymore.
The lesson I learned: listen before you buy.

Well … itâs comfortable, itâs lightweight, but letâs talk about what really matters … SOUND! Itâs just AMAZING! I have never heard such bass power, maintaining the mid and hi-frequencies definition. What a great job have koss done, itâs a classic that is in market for more than one decade, and keep in a very good shape.

I have traveled all over the world, and have only had to replace my PortaPros one time because they got grungy looking. Take care of them treat them nice and ripp all the other headphones to shreads. These little beauties crank. High, LoW, Mid you name it. All types of music.
I only had one pair of head phones that ever came close and that was an original pair of Koss AA. But for travel, sorry people you must be clumsy but these cans are worth the car. Noise reduction ha who needs it these bad boys can crank over any jet plane, at least if your inside the cabin. I’ve been to all the expensive audio stores, trying testing listening and still have my portapro. I looked for cooler looking headphones, but the ugly duckling is the sound winner. Oh yes and they are very comfortable. Sorry I love the PortaPro, Great Price Awsome sound. Koss Rocks the Head!!!!

My favorite outside-the-ear phones

After owning or listening to high end Grado’s, Sennheisers and Sony’s, I can say that these Koss PortaPro’s are my favorite outside-the-ear headphones. Amazing low end. Smooth highs. Light weight. I buy them whenever I see them on sale and give them to friends too. And the price is great. (see my review for Sony MDR-ex71sl as well)

These :”Retro” looking cans are interesting to look at, but I have spent a fortune buying and trying all kinds of “Sony,Panasonic,Grado…etc simply trying to find the best sound around for my Sony Net MD player.
Please be advised that these wonderful “Stylish” `phones are the real deal. From low rumbly bass to gorgeous mids and crisp highs…these things have got the lot…look no further. One more critical point…these are loud !!! thanks to a powerful sensitivity rating with NO distortion.Bar none spend a few extra bucks on these and it is money well spent..

These are thee best portable headphones I have ever used. They sound great, as if they were much bigger. The only problm i hav with them is that they are prone to damage themslves at high volumes, leading to a slight buzzing sound. You can avoid this if you are careful by only playing your music at a reasonable level. They also fold down to a pretty small size.
Also check out the Sporta-pro for similar sound with a diffrent style.
