Not a Gaming machine

Have owned at least 3 Tpads previously and am thinking about purchasing a newer one.
Some negatives reviews are posted from gamers so let’s get one thing straight…
Tpads were meant and intended for BUSINESS use NOT GAMING! If you want a laptop for games, either buy the High End TP91p work stations with the 512mb video cards which are meant for serious graphics work or just buy another laptop!
Tpads are good for occasional leisure activities like watching DVD’s but if you want to use it for INTENSIVE graphic activities, then you should reconsider which laptop will fit your needs!
Overall, the TP T series is a good series though still rather overpriced! Expect to keep it for at least 3-5 years as the TPs do last that long!

Amazing power

I have never seen such an optimized notebook like T61. It even runs Vista extremely well. It never hangs. All heavy RAM demanding programs also cannot make the system slow.

I have been a big fan of ThinkPad’s for a long time. I have an old R31 at home that runs xubuntu like a champ. Debian with Flux ran even smoother. I was not surprised with this purchase, just amazing. Excellent performance, beautiful ThinkPad looks an overall great laptop. A lot of the problems I’m seeing in these reviews are OS problems; try something other than Windows sheep’s.

Lenovo Thinkpad T61p review

I have read the reviews here and I can not believe what I’m reading. It is very obvious that people are misrepresenting the Lenovo Thinkpad T-61p and other Lenovo Thinkpads. This is in fact a wonderful Thinkpad to own. I have compared it to its competitors and they do not even come close in quality, design and performance.
Also, do not worry about the screen quality with Lenovo. It is still much better than its competitors by a large margin. And besides, it is not Lenovo or the other competitors fault. Blame it on the screen manufacturers like Samsung, etc. It is their fault for making poor screens. I say bring back the “Flexview” screens!!
Lenovo may not be the leader as of yet but they will be soon.
And for those who are about to purchase a laptop, seriously search for “independent” reviews rather than from people “whining.” And besides, it will be a lot more fun to learn more about what you are about to purchase before you invest the money.

I am totally disappointed. I have a new t61p which crash when gaming. Many users complain about that. The only workaround is to remove one RAM module or to change the mobo and pray to be a good one.
I have spent a lot for an IBM machine but this is crap.
Thanks IBM for the past machines and shame on you Lenovo.

Lenovo T61p

Lenovo Thinkpad T61p is incredible. It is probably the best laptop on the market today. This will be my third Thinkpad (A31p and T43p were my previous Thinkpads) and I would not hesitate to purchase another one. I have never had an issue with my Thinkpads for over 6 years. I have had DELL, GATEWAY and HP which in my opinion are the worst laptops you can purchase not only in design, quality and capabilities but also in customer service. If you are looking for a high-end laptop that will not let you down…then I suggest look no further. The T61p is the one you should seriously consider.

The moment I turned on the T61P I went from smile to cry in 5 seconds.
Five seconds is all it took me to realize how bad the WSXGA+ screen is.
It looks to me like a defective screen but Lenovo says otherwise and refuse take My 1 day old T61P as an exchange. So I have to swallow a 15% restocking fee.
It makes absolutely no sense for this otherwise powerful Laptop to be crippled by this horrible/defective LCD screen.
Graphics Artis looking for a serious Laptop stay away from T61P
Lenovo is Doomed.
Oh and customer support is the worst I have experience in 16 years.

Lenovo T61p No good!

I have just received my T61p and I must say that overall I am so disappointed that I am giving up on it right now, and my 11 year old is getting it! My last machine was a Sony sz4 which was fine in every way except I liked the idea of the backup systems on the IBM, plus the option of a 2nd hard drive. Sadly the reasons I bought the Lenovo have gone straight out of the window…The “Lenovo ” think vantage software is woefully untrustworthy, and does not even see the 2nd disc in the “Lenovo Ultrabay”…Non Lenovo software sees the other disc fine!..Lenovo support is the worst I have ever encountered and that says a lot. Lenovo say that all the software that comes with their machines is free and therefore they do not offer any support! That is after wasting more than 5 hours on the telephone being sent here, there and everywhere, only to be finally asked to pay $75 ( or thereabouts ) to speak to an expert…I am sorry, anyone who says “we will charge you to teach you to map your hard drive”…Err…That would be a first, you can’t map an internal drive!…I do not think I will waste any more time or money on Lenovo…That said, all their support are not beyond pathetic …just 95%.
The rest of the machine is ok, but nothing special, the screen is way too dim unless you work in a coal mine, is that what the little light above the screen is for? The maximum sound level is too low, and on some recordings too low to even hear…..a bit like the old Acers…. It is heavy, the battery rarely charges above 96%, its battery life is not what it says on the box, but that said is no worse than the Sony, but the screen quality and image are much, much worse. Lastly and this is not that important a point, it looks clunky and lack luster. Worst of all unreliable custom management software plus beyond appalling tech support make it untenable if all else was perfect. What happened to big blue? Its latest trick is to constantly fill up the c drive…I have it at 60 GB so far!!!!

I do highly recommend T61p for the performance
By: George Gromfel
November 15, 2007 @ 10:00 AM46pam11>
Pros:
1. Very powerful notebook with the highest mobile screen and performance quality in the industry.
2. Solid industrial look and design
Cons.:
1. Native resolution fonts are very good quality, but very small size. Fonts up scaling makes uneven characters and hard to read text. I found web surfing of quite unpleasant.
2. Looks a bit bulky because of uneven framing for the screen.

T61p Display quality
By: Jeff Dailey
September 28, 2007 @ 10:58 AM41pam9>
So I got my t61p with the 15.4 inch display yesterday. After reading all the reviews over the last couple of weeks, and hearing a few people complain about the display I was a was actually relieved when we spun up the notebook at my desk yesterday only to see what I feel, and my peers feel is a gorgeous display that is plenty bright enough. In fact if the display where any brighter I might find myself turning it down a bit at this amazing resolution of 1920×1200. My main monitor is a dell 30″ flat panel that goes 2560×1600, Yes it can go brighter than my laptop but it’s almost blinding at that level.
I’ve also seen the video on youtube where there is some shows what he calls “light leakage” from the bottom of the display. I can see the something similar on my t61p so I decided to compare it to my ~$1500 dell 30 inch display. While I don’t see much light from the bottom of the dell I will tell you in general LCD Displays do not provide great uniform blackness in general. It’s the nature of the beast. There are lights around the edge of the display. I also compared it to my new sony VGN-Fz150E and I see the same effect on the sony. In fact something worth noting is that the off access viewing quality and blackness quality is actually better on the t61p than the sony, and eyeballing both displays side by side I do not see a difference in the brightness.
I guess in short what I’m trying to say is don’t let these reviews where people are whining about the display prevent you from getting what I feel is an awesome Laptop with amazing build quality and a great display. If your thinking about the T61p, It’s an awesome laptop, go for it!
Other laptops I’ve owned, 3 Dell Latitudes, Various Toshibas, two sonyÃ’s including a VGN-550 E (Amazing display but lower res btw) and the VGN-Fz150E that my daughter is inheriting. note that I do not work for a hardware comapany or Lenovo. I’m a software guy.
