  1. Not Worth the $

I really liked the Voyager in the beginning. My husband and I returned from living overseas for a few years, so we needed a new service provider and new phones. We went with Verizon (awesome, but saving that for another review!) and I sent the husband off to pick out our phones. My only requirement was a keyboard.

First thing. It’s not very durable. Yes, they aren’t supposed to withstand an elephant stomping it, but I dropped it and the hinge broke. No fun. Rather than pay the insurance, I just bought a new phone.

The touch screen. My husband’s phone started acting wonky and wouldn’t respond to touch. He tried to re-calibrate a few times to no avail. Verizon was really easy to deal with in having it replaced. He got a “new” one. The touch screen wouldn’t work the first day he had the “new” replacement. He now has bought an entirely different phone rather than deal with getting a “new” replacement again.

The size isn’t too bad, but I feel it’s kind of clunky in comparison to most other phones. Even the Blackberry is thinner and shorter (but slightly wider) than the Voyager.

The internet left a lot to be desired. I don’t expect the lightning fast speed of the internet we have at home, but I do expect it to be a little faster than how the Voyager handled it. I did like the built in email checker and the mobile IM options, though.

Sound quality. I thought for awhile that the sound quality (or lack thereof) was due to my own hearing problems. However, after using my new phone I know it was the Voyager, and my husband’s phone also had the same issue. I didn’t use it to listen to music or anything, so I can’t say how it sounded for that purpose.

All in all, I would say – nice try, LG, in trying to match with the iPod, but I think this was an epic failure on their part. Go with a different phone that will last longer.

  2. Pathetic Excuse for a Cellular Phone

This phone, honestly, I can say, has had poor sound quality, poor battery life, and poor performance. I’ve had two devices, both broke because I couldn’t hear the other line, and had to get another one. Nothing worked when trying to repair it. This phone is not worth your time, especially with Verizon. They won’t help, they send you a “refurbished” not brand new phone, and even when they do, it’s not like it’s going to last more than 6 months, which is how long both of my Voyagers lasted. This phone is not worth your time, money, or effort to replace. I wouldn’t suggest the LG Voyager.

  3. I'd definitely go another way

After 2 years with this model and my second unit, I can conclusively say I would definitely go with a different model. The external touch pad is very imprecise and has all kinds of quirks. The vibration alert is weak at best. The battery is also very lack-luster. My previous phone was the vX9800, which had half the screen, but twice as much battery. The Voyager battery lasts for maybe 3-4hrs of use. The larger screens (which are great) just suck too much juice. I would have definitely sacrificed some pocket room for a properly matched battery. The full QWERTY board is awesome. Sound quality is descent, but could also be improved. Lastly, it’s probably a Verizon thing…but every time I use any of the data tools, it seems like I have to upgrade them again…sometimes more than once per week. I’m either going with the ENV3, or an HTC phone next time.

  5. Worked great for a few days...

It worked great for a few days, then the external display stopped working (went blank). The verizon customer service is really hard to deal with.

The web access is too slow to be taken seriously. External touch pad needs to be more precise. The internal full-keyboard is very nice and responsive, so is the battery life. No complaints about the sound quality, either.

This phone is amazing. That is all that needs to be said. I have the mobile TV and it is such a great add to the mobile phone industry, I can watch South Park, Reno 911, and the news while out, and in such quality! It is clean, crisp, and there is 0 lag (which amazed me) this is truly the best phone I have ever had and I have been sticking with LG’s V phones (The V/ EnV / and now the VX10000) for years now. I would recommend this phone to everybody who wants a quality phone in all aspects.

  8. Not half bad

I have had my phone for close to a month now and pretty much I have everything figured out.

I will start out with the pitfalls of the phone first:

When outside and in the sun you cannot see the outside/inside screen worth a darn. You have to shade it so that you can see it. I cannot even see either screen when I am wearing my sunglasses. I have to take off my sunglasses to view the screens.

There are no external speakers on the phone. The only speakers are on the inside of the flip face So, if you are wearing the phone in a belt clip case or even carrying it in your purse, you must have the ring volume turned up to max. Which as most people know, will blow the small speakers and they will get that tinny sound.

Sometimes when using the touch screen to text, when you hit the space button it doesn’t always move the cursor over. You occasionally must hit it twice to get it to move. But I have also found that sometimes the touch screen does not respond very well.

The battery life leaves a lot to be desired. I am not on the phone/web/texting consistently and the battery life just does not last as long as my LG8300 did….I know that there is the extended battery, so I might check into that.

The camera on the phone takes great pictures. But the time that it takes for the phone to actually take a picture is awful. It takes anywhere from 2-3 seconds for the “shutter” to snap a picture from the time you hit the button. So if taking a picture of someone makes sure that they hold their position for at least 3 seconds so that you don’t get an empty shot.

It would be great if it had speaker phone capability when in the closed position.

Wish that you could change the color scheme a bit more. Sometimes has an echo when talking to other people. But I am not sure if that is the phone or the service with Verizon itself. My LG 8300 did that as well.

Now onto the good things about the phone.

    Both screens are very clear.

Easy to navigate through the menus.

I like the fact that you can change the fonts.

Secondary “D” pad on the keyboard is nice for games.

    Calls are fairly clear.

Phone works great for V Cast music. Worked great with the V Cast Videos also. Pictures were nice and clear.

I never did try the V Cast T.V.

Overall it is a sleek looking phone and I am fairly please with it…

I am a proud owner of a Voyager, I absolutely love this phone!! I have the mobile TV and the quality is good for such a small device. I had the choice between an iPhone and a Voyager and I chose the Voyager.

  10. Awesome Phone.

This phone is obviously better than the ridiculously overpriced horrible IPhone. Not only is Verizon a better company in my eyes, but when it comes to facts, the cheapest plan you can get with an IPhone is $99.00/monthly. The Voyager you can have a regular plan and add different things IF YOU WANT, unlike the IPhone where you HAVE to have it a certain way.

The voyager has awesome things like a GPS, internet access, it is a MOBILE TV. These things do come with extra costs, but you don’t HAVE to have them, which is a good thing because you can just get what YOU yourself are going to utilize. The IPhone you have to pay at least $99.00/monthly, and that would be paying for things you might not ever even need/use.

The reason I compare this phone to the IPhone so much, is because everybody seems to think that it was made as Verizon’s own version of an “IPhone” type of cell phone. Weather they did or not, I don’t know. But the Voyager is way better.

It has 2 screens; the outer screen is an easy to use touch screen. Each screen can have a different background to it, “internal and external backgrounds”. You can do anything the phone offers with either screen, so there is no inconvenience of having to go to a certain screen to do something.

It has a 2.0 megapixel camera, which is for being only 2.0mp it is awesome looking. Very big screens for taking pictures too. Also on a side note, when you snap a picture, you can have cool little things like, a sound that says “SAY CHEESE”, its cute and a good add to the phone.

I do not have the mobile TV access for it, because I’m a college student ha-ha, and trying to keep my bills as low as possible, however it isn’t that much more a month, but I still need to save all I can. But I did watch the Mobile TV preview, and it is VERY CLEAN AND CRISP. I will be getting this when I graduate.

I have not used the GPS either because of my college, so I don’t really have any insight on this, but I’m sure it works just as good as any other GPS. I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

The Contact list, allows you to add the name, up to 2 mobiles of each entry, a home phone, and email, of each entry, a picture for each entry (weither it be of a picture you took or a default), an email for each entry, and a ringtone for each entry. Very awesome, and very easy and very organized.

Like all other Verizon cell phones, it has the easy access “get it now”, and has web browsing if you’d like.

It has an mp3 player in it, to play your music which the phone comes with a cord and program that you download online for free, to upload your music onto the phone. A very organized and awesome player at that. It also has a microSD card slot, to use for pictures or music or whatever. The only downside I seen with the microSD, is that I didn’t get one when I got the phone ha-ha. But it’s ok; I got one on my own.

The reason this phone is better than the IPhone, is because if I’m just answering a call, or using anything short and sweet, I can use the touch screen (external screen). If I need to text, or write about a plan for something, or a schedule with the notepad, or something, I can use the internal screen and use the keyboard. The phone is only one screen, and unorganized, and the only reason the IPhone is popular is because everyone else wants one, and it is “like an IPod” but a phone. It is horrible and unorganized, read some of the reviews, people don’t like them after they get it, but are stuck into that horrible high rate plan.

The menu provides the following: voice command, Bluetooth, text messaging, calculator, EZ tip calculator (helps you with figuring out tips to give someone based on the bill, such used at a restaurant when you pay your bill, so you know how much to give you waitress percentage wise like 15%, and how to split it with everybody there, very cool feature), Alarm Clock, Calendar, Camera/My Pictures, My music, VZnavigator (GPS), Browser, Mobile TV.

One of the greatest things about this phone, well to me it is. The battery on the phone is really big, compared to most phone batteries. Now when I say this, don’t think it makes the phone any bigger in any way, it stays the same shape ha-ha, it’s just within the phones “body” they gave a lot more room for a battery, hence it is a bigger battery. And I have gone 3 days without charging this phone, AFTER fully charging it and it still had good life left. It holds life really good, which depletes the inconvenience of putting a cell phone on the charger every night, or even every other night.

Now onto the downsides of this phone, however there are not many, and none of them make the phone not worth buying.

    1. The phone is very loud, you DO have the option of turning it down, but if your phone is at the highest volume, it tends to echo back into the phone, which makes the person on the other end hear what they say, right after they say it. Now the reason I say this, is because I live in the city, so I can’t necessarily turn it down when I’m walking around, because the city is loud ha-ha.

    2. The phone is a little bulky, but that is like every PDA phone. (Note: this is not a PDA phone by the way, but basically does everything a PDA does).

    3. Get a screen cover or a case, because the external touch screen gets scratched up, mine isn’t bad though, but I take care of my phone. That and I’m not sure if they even make an exact case for this phone yet, but other ones are sure to work.

    4. This phone is a little expensive, $300.00 even with a 2yr. plan, but in all honesty, it’s completely worth it.
