I have no idea what everyone’s talking about! We’ve had this running in our home for just about a year and it handles four laptops with ease…everywhere in the house. Including the basement. In fact, one of our sons moved in across the street and his laptop accesses our wireless from his living room.

hi everybody,
Don’t ever think to buy this product. I really don’t like it. Before I installed it I consulted with a friend who is working at Cisco he recommended I go for this product.
I was using a wgr614 which is fantastic. I thought I was getting an upgrade for security but it’s been a real pain.

Barely works
By: Peter
March 6, 2008 @ 11:48 AM53pam3>
Works for internet surfing with a few windows open. One of the tests published on the internet shows there is a limit of 8 connections so do not expect this to handle more than one computer. V5 and later have slower chip set and less memory compared to earlier versions so max speed on a download is 1Mbit/sec. V5 and later do not support Windows file sharing when using wireless – customer support says they understand customers want that but it only works on hardwired connections. If you want wireless, buy a router from some other company. Port forwarding on gaming does not work if you have more than one computer on the router. Maximum distance on wireless when coupled with Linksys WPC54G wireless card is about 50 feet – no signal beyond that. Anything beyond 30 feet is much slower than 1Mbit/sec. Works OK for wireless surfing of internet from laptop – otherwise the rating would be 0.

Flash your v6 router with a Linux firmware
By: John
January 23, 2008 @ 9:36 AM38pam1>
I have the same router, v6, had some problems with the wireless connectivity, I was having trouble connecting to it period! I also had a v8, which didn’t work well so had to return that one. Searched the net and found a solution, hope this would help you with your v6. Try this site and flash the router with the Linux firmware, follow the instructions carefully! If you run into problems, you are able to revert back to the original Linksys firmware, read all of the instructions first! Check it out @ http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owbase/ow.asp?WRT54G5_CFE

I have set up this router three times. At first it works fine, after a few days I have to install it again to even the wired connections to work properly. This thing is junk. I would not recommend to anyone.

Get ready for a headache

After purchasing it and spending three hours on the phone I have it working. I can’t understand why they don’t fix the installation CD? I might have been better off without it anyway after three weeks I can say it works 90 percent of the time. I don’t mind the router going out but it makes my pc lose connection which is wired through the router! I would not buy this product or endorse it at all.

Not a fan

I have had constant problems with this Linksys router for the past few months. At first I was connected with no trouble, and then I suddenly could not pick up an internet signal from the router. The connection signal strength was constantly “very low”. While customer service was very thorough (I spent hours on the phone with them multiple times, doing the same things over and over), they failed to help me. Linksys sent me a new router twice through the RMA system, claiming that I had a “bad” router (twice!), but I had the same problems with the ones they sent me, too. I can’t get a refund because I don’t have the original receipt, and I am so frustrated that I have no desire to call customer service and go through the whole process again. I would not recommend the Linksys brand router at all.

constantly drops signal

I own a wrt54g v.6 and I have nothing but problems with the wireless. It can NOT keep a stable connection for even two minutes. Sure I can browse the web. But I am a gamer and everybody knows you need a constant STABLE connection with games. Well linksys isn’t exactly what I’d call "up to par". I cant even play a game for 2 minutes without getting an error saying it can’t connect to the server. I thought linksys would be better than that. I know it is linksys because I have used netgear before and I had no dropped signal what so ever and even the signal on the Netgear was much stronger. If you are a gamer or if you do big file downloads, DO NOT GET LINKSYS.

Great if no 2.4Ghz Phone in House
By: daehttub
November 29, 2006 @ 9:53 AM12pam11>
Super Unit with WEP/WPA. Works great. Great range all around the house. Bought used unit for $10 from owner of a 2.4Ghz cordless phone. Techie told me that every phone call would drop the wireless connection. My house has 900Mhz phones so it’s O.K. Setup instructions on CD are incorrect. Follow setup instructions from Linksys website.

Always looses connection!

The wireless network is always loosing the connection within minutes. The maximum distance to work is less than 5 meter.
the wired part is also bad, it is terribly slow in comparison to other routers.
Conclusion, it is a useless thing you don’t want to have!

Good router

This is a great router. I bought it for my laptop with a Intel 2915ABG WIFI card in inside and my connections never drops out. With the new firmware WPA2 is available.
Rock stable anywhere in my house.
Only downside is linksys support.

Nothing but problems
By: Brian
July 14, 2005 @ 11:07 AM08pam7>
The router’s wireless signal is lost on a frequent basis. It slows down my internet connection and increases my latency dramatically. It needs to be rebooted on a weekly basis to keep it working. All this happens with the lastest firmware installed.
Worst of all, Linksys support is virtually non-existant. I can’t even describe how poor their tech support was.

Loses signal all the time
By: Shane
July 12, 2005 @ 5:47 AM32pam7>
As previously stated, I’m having the same issue with the signal dropping ALL the time. Upgrading the fireware does NOT fix the problem. My computer, laptop, and ps2 loses a signal so I know it’s an issue with the router. STAY away from this model. I like linksys and hopefully they will fix the problem with the new model number.

Loses signal all the time

April 28, 2005 @ 9:37 AM18pam4>
I too have the same issue as Ian. My laptop is literally 4 feet away from the router, and it drops the signal all the time. I tried replacing the network card in my laptop, but it still happens. I’m on my second one because my first quit working after I upgraded the firmware. I had to RMA it. Stay away and buy a netgear instead.

always loses signal

April 27, 2005 @ 9:27 PM02ppm4>
The wireless connection is always going down – for 15-60 minutes at a time, ten times a day. My computer is only ten feet from the router. Calling this thing garbage is an insult to garbage everywhere.
