Good on looks but Sucks big time on performance

October 16, 2007 @ 4:09 PM09ppm10>
I have recently purchased the combo set of logitech MX 5000 Series which includes the keyboard MX 5000 and MX 1000 laser mouse.
I was fascinated by the idea of cordless, and thought bluetooth would be good over RF signals…but to my disappointment the MX 1000 mouse sucks big time on performance. I am using Windows Vista Ultimate while using it i find the so called MX 1000 to laggggg……big time ……while playing the cnc3(command and conquer i get so huge lags i keep on losing.) So overall good looking mouse and bad of performance. I am thinking of getting myself a razor mouse.

I have been using this mouse for over 1 year and it has never let me down.
It is great for Video Editing (SONY VEGAS) and writing music (LOGIC).
This mouse significantly reduced discomfort I was enduring using el cheapo mice causing carpal tunnel syndrome.
The recharge cradle is great. If you leave it off for too long (3-4 days.. it might lose it’s charge.

Great Mouse Bad Rechargeables
By: Cameron
October 14, 2006 @ 10:01 PM01ppm10>
I bought it, really liked it, but after about 3 months it wouldn’t recharge. Logitech replaced it and I’ve been happily using it for about 8 months and now find it’s not recharging fully. As far as everyday use, it’s great, however, whatever Logitech is using for the rechargeable batteries is the weak link.

Doesn't work with docking stations
By: TomP
September 7, 2006 @ 7:43 PM53ppm9>
I’ve relied on reviews many times, but this is the first one I’ve written. But I needed to share my experience with anyone wanting to attach this mouse to any kind of a docking station.
To begin with, the one star rating is based on my experience trying to use the mouse with my IBM Thinkpad that I attach to a docking station in my office. The mouse could very well be four or five stars in other situations.
After installing the Logitech software and rebooting my computer, neither the mouse nor the keyboard attached to my docking station would work anymore. I called Logitech to try to resolve the problem. The customer service person asserted that “logitech mice do not work with docking stations”, which was something I found surprising since I was replacing a logitech optical mouse that was attached to my docking station. Then he said “well, they are not guaranteed to work.” Okay, so I guess this one won’t work. That’s fine, I can return it and stick with my old mouse.
“But why,” I ask, “doesn’t my keyboard work anymore.” Well, he tries to assure me that there was nothing at all that their installation software could ever do to make a keyboard not work anymore, especially since I had a PS-2 keyboard.
I said, “Well, it was working. And it’s been working for three years. And it stopped working right after I rebooted my computer after installing your software.” He tried to assure me that my docking station must have broken when I rebooted my computer.
I said, “You’re trying to tell me that it’s more likely that my docking station simply broke right after I installed your mouse software than it is that your software did something to mess up my computer.” He basically said yup.
Then he put me on hold.
So he comes back and says that in rare cases, the mouse software can indeed interfere with a docking station. I should just uninstall the Logitech software.
So I do.
Well, the keyboard still doesn’t work.
So now he’s convinced that my docking station must be broken. I say, “Couldn’t your software have overwritten something? Couldn’t your software have screwed up some registry entries somewhere?”
He says that the installation program removes the software from the computer, so there’s nothing left to interfere with my keyboard. So I say, “Well that assumes that your uninstall program does everything it’s supposed to, right.”
Finally, he tells me that maybe I should talk to a manager.
I do. And he says that in fact it is possible that the original installation may have overwritten drivers that I on my computer in order to see anything on the docking station.
But it’s up to IBM to help me through the problem.
Logitech screwed up my computer, but I need to call IBM to fix it.
I tell them that I’ll need to return the mouse. He tells me to return it to the store I bought it at. I tell them “I bought it online and that I’ll have to pay shipping to send it back.” He says yup.
I tell him that another answer might be that they would be happy to let me return it to them, that they’d pay the shipping, and that they’d give me a refund.
He says that they can’t do this.
I’ve usually looked to the Logitech name because they get good reviews and because I’ve had good luck in the past with their products.
Now, I am going to look elsewhere.
And if you were thinking of using this mouse on any kind of docking station or port replicator, forget it. It’s one thing for it not to work. It’s another thing for it to screw up your computer so that you need to spend an hour or two trying to fix it.
Argh!

Iâve used Logitech for well over 10 yrs.
Oh sure they give you lots of buttons to press, but IMO they are so awkward to use they are useless. I also find the action of the cursor/ mouse to be wishy-washy at times and at times to have a mind of it’s own. On many occasions I have experienced a lag time while using the mouse, I find this very annoying. This is the second mouse I will be returning, Iâm not sure if I will be trying a third?
But on a high note, I must say I like the comfort of the mouse to my hand.

Not for me
By: Kari S.
March 15, 2006 @ 11:23 PM36ppm3>
I couldn’t work with this mouse.
The biggest problem is that motion sensor is too effective. You have to lift the mouse too high to prevent
motion sensors to detect motion. That is very annoying, at least with heavy mouse like this.
Secondly, special buttons are quite hard to reach. Not suitable for my hand. I have quite big hand.
Mouse’s back button didn’t work in FireFox.
With MS IntelliPoint mouse back button works in FireFox also.
Software looks bit awkward but is works.
+ Accuracy
+ Basic buttons
- TOO EFFECTIVE MOTION SENSOR!!!
- Special buttons
- Bit sticky sliding(I may have poor mouse pad?)
- Noisy wheel
It took MX1000 back to shop, it may be good for someone, not for me.
Recommendation,
TEST BEFORE BUYING!!!

I installed this mouse on my G5 dual 2.3GHZ and it works like a charm I am using the original mouse that came with my G5 as a door stopper now. The person who is complaining that this mouse has a mind of its own has probably the PC from hell with low voltage on the USB ports. Get a real machine then complain. The mouse is probably the most expensive component on your machine. I am with the rest of the peeps here what a great mouse …way to go Logitech

Very comfortable….as long as you are right handed. Works really well…had no operational/installation issues at all.
Only complaints are:
1) Prefer Microsoft’s “smooth” scrolling wheel rather than the “notched” version on this.
2) Bit of a stretch for my thumb to reach the “special” left side buttons

This mouse is useless.Don’t be lured by it’s sexy curves, and it’s fancy buttons and lazer precision. Sure it has all of them (and to be fair to logitech, they have put a lot of thought in to this mouse), but Logitech have failed miserably in getting the basics right, it seems.
This is another case of “look what we’ve managed to do – aren’t we clever!”, before actually taking the time to check that the thing works properly prior to releasing it.
Once installed (agreed, not everyone suffers, but a lot of people do – read the forums!) you will most likely be reduced to a life of sheer PC misery by having to put up with erratic cursor movement, and “exe-itis”. The mouse even seems to have the abillity to be able to do whatever it wants to do – clever or what?! ….err…nope! useless, infact!
This mouse makes a great desk-top ornamant, but would you pay £50 for a desktop ornament? I have! :)
So, if you want to buy an expensive desktop ornament, which will reduce any perfectly sane, normal person to a gibbering wreck, buy this mouse. It’s what you’ve always wanted.

One of the worst mice
By: Adrian
July 6, 2005 @ 3:21 AM01pam7>
This mouse is one of the worst I have ever used!
Yes yes great battery life great buttons and functions but I have now had it for 6 days and am about to return it due to frequent cursor jumping.
In Desigh and photoshop it makes life hell, any line drawing or precision movements are completely screwed by this fault. I would say it’s not actually the mouse but the dreadful driver software that Logitech provide.
They seem to be able to produce a good mouse but forget that the software to run it is as important.
Forget about FPS games also as the JUMPIING means you often miss heat shots and end up disorientated and inevitably dead.
I really wanted to like this mouse but unfortunately it just ain’t worth the money especially when it can even do the basic job a mouse should.
Be warned STAY CLEAR of this product. Buy the mx 500 or the 518 yeah but mx 1000 is rubbish no matter what some reviewers say, they obviously don’t have much experence in this field to give this mouse a 9/10.

I have gone through 3 mice before I got this one. It has never had any problems since I bought it. After I shut down my computer, I put it on the charger. I have never had it go below 3 bars. I have noticed when you reset the mouse, it does get jumpy. To fix this, set it on the charger for 3 seconds, and take it back off and it should work perfectly. I an very pleased with its perfermance in games, on the web, and everything else. The range of this mouse is amazing, I can go up to 15 feet away until it starts to go out of range. I even use it as a remote for DVDs. I love it

Smooth as silk. LiIon battery lasts a week or more on one charge. Forward and Back buttons DO work in Firefox. Just program ‘em to Alt-Right Arrow and Alt-Left Arrow respectively and they work in Firefox, IE and every other browser I’ve tried. I’ve been through four wireless mice – three MS mice and a Logitech – they all had one problem or another: jerky motion, computer losing recognition of the mouse, short batter life, etc. This one outshines them all by far. Highly recommended.

Some clarifications and notes.
By: BB
June 2, 2005 @ 3:19 PM17ppm6>
You should occasionally check the MX318 or other gaming mice driver downloads because they often have newer versions of SetPoint than the MX1000’s support page. On another note, I figured out how to get rid of the jumpy mouse cursor: get a hard mousepad. The MX1000 is VERY sensitive, and pressure on squishy mousepads, just from clicking, will change the contour of the surface and affect the mouse.
Rick: A USB port can only provide 500mA for ALL devices on its hub (which can be 4-5), so only 100mA is guaranteed. Fast-RF and laser scanning technology requires a lot of power, which is why the MX1000 uses a lithium-polymer battery, and requires 4.2V, 800mA to charge. The USB specification states that any device using more than 100mA should be self-powered. Get a wired mouse if you want your mouse bus-powered.

The packaging is missleading. you need to plug it into a Mains to charge up the mouse. It is NOT bus powered. While Docked, its not needed to transmit an signals, so why cant it stop the signaling, and turn over to power instead. Id rather it use/have the option of using 2xUSB/PS2+1xUSB (which ive seen been done with a FreeCom CDROM). External CD and HDD’s need external power, NOT MICE! – Apart from that its Crackin!

lag is due to old MB bios
By: James
April 12, 2005 @ 5:02 AM31pam4>
I brought this mouse yesterday, and I also has the same strange laggy experience that many ppl had, I wasn’t happy, in fact very pissed off, but I didn’t give up on the mouse yet so I plugged it into my brother’s ASUS motherboard and it happened to work very well! Now knowing this, I had a feeling that the lagginess was probably due to my motherboard bios since my mother board is quite old (Iâm using AMD 1600+, Gigabyte 7VTXH) so I flashed it and now my MX1000 works great!
Iâm not sure whether flashing the bios, or updating the mouse drivers would work for everyone, but for some reason it definitely worked for me. Iâve experienced the laggy crap that everyone complains about and the smooth as silk feeling too, so Iâm sure if you experiment around with it you will get a good result. I gave it a 9 because it pissed me off before it gave me satisfaction

Not God's gift to mice
By: BB
April 6, 2005 @ 2:02 AM46pam4>
Having owned an MX700 before this MX1000, the MX1000 is slightly laggy. Even my sister, who plays no games whatsoever found the mouse laggier than the previous version, taking time to note that without even being asked.
I also noticed that, yeah, there is some delay between picking up the mouse and movement reaction as it reinstantiates the “eye.” Try it out yourself: try to get to the other side of your screen quickly, but act as if you only have an inch of mouse-pad to move the mouse on; when you reach the “edge” pick up the mouse and bring it back to the other edge of this “pad.” The cursor will “stick” and only start reacting some tens of milliseconds later (seems like nothing, but it is noticable).
I like the MX1000’s ergonomics more than the MX700’s, especially the placement of the buttons and the lighter weight of it. The new logitech mouse software is nice as well, as it doesn’t suffer as much from the Fast User Switching like the old mouse software did (button settings would get messed up).
Personally, I think the pros of the mouse outweigh the cons. If you want to play FPS games with a super gaming mouse, I would simply attach an additional corded mouse to the computer. For normal computer use though, I’m done with wired mice.

Some good, some bad...
By: Darren
March 23, 2005 @ 8:19 AM46pam3>
The mouse tracks well, and has a lot of potential, but…
The bad part is that they are shipping units with a defective receiver base. If you get one with Receiver/Base Model Number (M/N): C-BN34 you will find as I did that it more or less unusable without installing the SetPoint software. Without this software, the mouse pointer will jump to the top of the screen or act erractively at times. But even with the software I detected some erract behavior in games. The software is not bad but if you use non-Windows OSs that is a big negative.
The ergonomic shape feels good in the store, but after I got it home I realized why it was I tossed an earlier model Microsoft Wireless mouse. The left side thumb grip that seems so comfy in the store? Well unless you keep your hand aligned with the mouse in exactly that position, this mouse is uncomfortable to hold. Particularly for gaming, many of us play with our fingers very lightly touching the mouse … we don’t grip it or hold our hand in a single rigid position.
For these reasons I ended up returning it and am once again using my Logitech MX700 mouse.

March 20, 2005 @ 10:59 PM35ppm3>
Is this a corded mouse? It sure behaves like one.
Right when I got this mouse I knew I was in for a big change. Cordless freedom that acts like it’s corded, that is.
It worked right out of the box. I plugged it in while my PC was on, and it fired right up. The mouse had a half-charge on it when I first started to use it (I know this because it had 2 bars lit up on the battery indicator).
After plugging it in, my computer recognized it immediately and prompted for the new settings to take place. Logitech’s software for the MX1000 made it all the much easier to use.
The mouse comes equipped with many features, all of which I left at default because they are so useful.
So far a full battery lasts me about 3 weeks straight. I usually charge it when it gets down to 1 bar, but I didn’t notice any sluggish performance until it actually died. A full charge takes only about an hour at most.
If you’re looking for a good mouse to invest in that will keep you feeling up-to-date for the next few years, get the MX1000…you won’t regret it (unless of course you use your mouse left-handed, that’s a no-no with this mouse).

Sorry people, but if you pay this much for a mouse it shouln’t jump like cricket. They advertise this as being a gamers tool but with the % of bad units floating around, it’s just crapshoot whether you get a good one or not. They don’t acknowledge the problem at the website either and after being on the market for awhile they should have the problem fixed. Until they get their QC down I have to say this laser tech is not the future for Logitech.

I just picked this up. It replaced a basic intellimouse explorer deal. It does not seem to have any lag when you pick it up like others say. I gave it a eight because the forward button is too far forward. And it does rock slightly which should have been corected. It does not affect useability just gives it less than great quality feel. The scroller wheel is kind of noisy and cheap feeling too. I dunno it is great but could be better. Its not like they are giving them away.

This is the most sensitive, fastest-responding wireless mouse out there. I have massively increased my sniping capabilities in Q3A, HL2, D3, CWS, etc. It’s amazing that certain individuals can find anything to complain and whine about WRT this amazing mouse. I was skeptical but took the chance and ordered this over the Internet. Am I glad I did!
I honestly have no plans to ever go back to a non-laser mouse…this is a truly amazing mouse. In graphics programs (PS, ILL, ETC), the incredible precision of this mouseis a real time-saver. Unless you have a serious case of Parkinson’s disease, this is the ultimate mouse!

I like the mouse, like the feel, love having no cords, but HATE the jumping it has. I’ve tried different mouse pads, different positions, distances from base station, etc. I play alot of CS and when I’m trying to scout someone, and it jumps and I’m staring at the ground, and I die, well, that’s not a good mouse. Maybe once the fix the jumping issue, I’d consider getting it again, but my 510 worked well enough not to spend the money on a downgraded mouse.

I’ve had this mouse for some time now, and predeeded it wiht an MX 700. I do business computing aas wellas online games. And can confrim that for gaming this mouse is a loser wiht a capital L, for the many reasons others have already stated. I alos have a problem with this mouse cursor jumping.. I bought and too one back and this one does the same, thye both had the same problem. Every so foter the mouse cursor will jump to the top of teh screen or the far right. I see no ryme or reason for this action, but it is very annoying and getes yur character killed in a game situation. For business use it doesn’t matter as much, just annoying. The good features are not being tehtered to the PC, and the tilt scroll. Also the battery seems to keep its charge longer than earlier ones. I have used this long enught to determine that I’m going back to the 500 or the 700 (I’ve had all three).

The fix for Firefox, Visio, etc. is to set buttons 7 and 8 to “Other” “Generic Button”.
As to those who are complaining about lag when lifting the mouse etc., you got a defective mouse, return it for exchange! Early production samples are particularly plagued by these problems.
Mine doesn’t do any of this and tracks smooth as silk, as I’m sure do the MX1000 mice of hundreds of thousands of other people. That’s why when they read your complains, many don’t know what you people are talking about.
I love mine, great cordless mouse, even though a bit pricey. It has solved all the previous problems with cordless mice such as lags, jerky pointers, low battery life, etc.
The best mouse that I’ve ever owned, recommended without reservations.

Ive used this mouse in serious clan play in a variety of games. It performs excellently and DOESNT switchoff if you lift it from the surface. Only time i can get it to turn the laser off is if i keep it rasied for over a second. And if you do that you deserve to get fragged anyway.
Best mouse in the world.

well for all you gamers who complain about this mouse my acc has increased since using it, i agree the cable on the reciever is a bit on the short side though but i get no lag whatsoever, the problem i had was when i installed the useless software it conflicted with the game i play,(enemy territory) and the forward/backward buttons wouldnt work so i uninstalled the software and let windows detect the mouse, everything works fine now and im more than happy with it, just a shame logitech always seem to screw the drivers up with the exception of the mx510 drivers.

Lifting Delay
By: Tim Vo
December 11, 2004 @ 11:01 AM15pam12>
Delay because of safety? BS, this mouse will turn on when it detects a surface… so whats stopping an idiot from hold the mouse up to their eye and then waiting for it to turn back on. Nothing. exactly. Logitech has a problem with this mouse, and they need to fix it. Whether it be through new drivers or RMA’ing the mouse, it needs to be fixed. Tracking however is great.
Honestly all they need to do is let the laser stay on all the time until it is inactive for 10seconds at which time it has its sleep mode. But other than that…. 10 seconds on all the time solves everything.

MX 510 GODLIKE MOUSE > MX 1000
By: NathanB
December 1, 2004 @ 7:05 PM58ppm12>
MX 510 I will come right out and say is the best mouse on the planet for gamers, I am a die had counter-strike fan I know I have tried everything. I did take the 1/2 once weight out which took awhile with all the screws I thought I would nver put it back together but I did.
The MX 1000 is heavier, bigger, and has major lag issues when you pick it up (which i do everytime I play cs, css, dod, dods, hl2, hl…) .
Logitech if you are lissening, please do exactly as I say , take the MX510 colors, shape, and weight and exchage its opitcal engine for a laser engine without the sucidal power cutoff when you lift it up.
People wanting a new gamer mouse go out and buy a MX510, it will be the best choice you ever made.
I own on cs with it using 3.1337 sensitivity.

I had an old Logitech optical mouse, and I play lots of FPS games (BFV, DOOM3, FarCry, HalfLife2) and let me tell you, this mouse is super. It handles as well as any corded mouse, and I have not noticed any lag or other issues while using the mouse. Into my third week with the same charge

It won’t scroll Visual Studio at all. In file explorer it won’t scroll the window or pane the mouse is over. The cruise buttons work properly and control the window the mouse is over. I have called tech support and they claim it works the way it is suppose to. Well I disagree, so the mouse is going back.

HORRIFIC GAMING MOUSE
By: FlederMaus
November 15, 2004 @ 9:31 PM26ppm11>
I don’t care what you call it, lag issues or whatever. This is a terrible gaming mouse. I tend to use a high sensitivity in FPS gaming, and I don’t lift the mouse at all.
All it takes is a slight “rock” of the mouse to loose control. An optical mouse CAN rock slightly and there isn’t any loss of control. I just could not play at all with the MX1000.
The MX510, is a better gaming mouse. I wouldn’t say it is the BEST, but dare near it. Take that stupid 1/2 oz weight out of the 510 and it will be lighter and more responsive.

Not quite the MX700 killer
By: Greg
November 13, 2004 @ 2:40 AM10pam11>
I bought this MX1000 to replace my MX700. I was after the feature of the better tracking since the MX700 is fussy with desk surfaces (as are all optical mice). This mouse tracks great BUT… I bought the mouse for gaming and in FPS gaming, you turn around a lot. You cannot spin around continuosly with this mouse. As you lift it slightly to reposition during continuos turning, it stops for a while. That time, though tiny, feels very bad and will get you dead. The MX700 does not have this problem (I have them both connected at this moment). This mouse comes close to being the best, but falls short, it is simply not suitable for gaming.

No lag, bad fit in hand
By: bETAbILLY
November 11, 2004 @ 7:19 PM15ppm11>
I can lift my MX1000 off it’s mouse pad for short or longer periods of time, theres no lag at all when I place the mouse back on it’s pad in a sliding motion. As far as the weight & feel, thats just something to get used to but I do like dragging my thumb and last two fingers as I use a mouse, thats something I cant do with the MX1000. Battery charge lasts a long time though and I wish Logitech gave instructions on how to improve the USB sampling rate in XP. Until I modify the shape and USB settings, I’ll keep using my corded Intellimouse Explorer.

Best wireless yet!
By: Silv3r
October 31, 2004 @ 3:12 PM16ppm10>
The logitech MX1000 is no doubt the best wireless mouse yet. You guys complaining about the response time are comparing to corded mouse!
Get back to earth! Most of the cell phones still delay conversations… what if a mouse can have a 100ms or whatsoever delay…it’s a quarter second!
Overall the mouse is wonderful, the battery included still amazes me. I got it 2 weeks ago and didn’t even charged it yet and shows full charge!
The only thing that I think is the new ergonomic of this mouse on the thumb section is a failure…is it just me or the NEXT button is too far to reach when your thumb rests on the *holder*… I can easily reach for the back button but the NEXT is far…I’d probably need a thumb one inch longer…lol
Anyway, two short thumbs up for logitech

Aweful gaming mouse!
By: L8UT
October 26, 2004 @ 4:38 AM16pam10>
There are several points about this mouse that make it terrible for gaming. Firstly and most obviously is the re-initialisation delay. The mouse laser turns off once the mouse is lifted off a surface, and takes about 250ms to turn back on when placed back down. This is a suicide call in games. Secondly, there is about an 80 ms transmission delay between mouse and subsequent cursor movement. Again in fast games such as the Unreal Tournaments, this is cause for reduced performance. Thirdly, the alignment of the motion seems off. The mouse needs to be held such that it is rotated more to the left (anticlockwise) for an upward motion to correlate to an upward cursor movement. Fourthly, the middle mouse button is what I call a âhardâ button. It requires much more force to press than some other mice, and does not perform well in games when it needs to be pressed quickly. âSoftâ buttons sink down a bit before suddenly clicking and feel like theyâre being pressed into soft sponge, whereas âhardâ buttons just suddenly click and feel like they hit rock. This large force requirement for the button to be pressed combined with the tilt wheel technology, low-force wheel turn, and need for a rotated position makes accidentally turning the wheel or pressing the tilt wheel buttons too easy, and causes errors when gaming. Fifthly, another important point for gaming; the mass of the mouse is relatively large, and thus has a large inertia. Much more force is required to shove the thing around relative to a corded mouse, and so your hand gets tired more easily, and you lose accuracy in games. Sixthly, owing to the higher CPI of the mouse, the acceleration profile â even on its lowest setting â ultimately reduces gaming accuracy. Seventhly, the ergonomics seem off; the mouse promotes an upward hand position rather than being more flat and inline with your wrist, which causes fatigue and aches. Eighthly and finally, the back and forward browser buttons donât seem to work with the Mozilla Firefox web browser.
In summary, this is diametrically opposite to perfect for gaming, but OK for office use, with the exception of the lack of support for Firefox, ergonomics, and motion alignment issues. Any increased accuracy of this mouse over others due to the laser optics technology is negligible and unnoticeable, and buyers of this mouse for gaming purposes will find themselves victims of the marketing drelbs. Anyone who praises this mouse in online reviews for gaming clearly isnât a gamer, sets low standards, or feels obliged to commend the mouse due to being given a review copy in advance. The ultimate gaming mouse still ranks as the WIRED Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer version THREE.

weight, lifting, response
By: Not A Gamr
October 22, 2004 @ 2:43 PM29ppm10>
Mine weighs just a tad under 6 ounces, according to my postal scale. (Sorry, the USPS is not up to using grams yet).
It is very responsive, as much as 4 feet from the base.
It tracks fine even when lifted as much as 1/4″ for re-positioning.
Maybe some of these are not functioning properly.

Mx 1000 - Serious problems, lag
By: Epitome
October 21, 2004 @ 5:04 AM41pam10>
I don’t know how all these reviewers are giving this mouse top marks, it is a terrible mouse ! It wobbles on the desk due to bad design fault. It lags in games, pointer has a mind of it’s own and it’s RF reception in woefull, you nearly have to have the mouse right beside the RF reception cradle to get it to work proper.
Very expensive and useless mouse, would not recommend to anyone. Don’t believe the hype and get sucked it like I was. Shame on these reviewers, you show no independance, one wonders if you actually work for Logitech !

MIxed Results
By: mouserman
October 19, 2004 @ 5:21 PM00ppm10>
1. The Packaging is ridiculous. The huge box with its three (3) separate clear plastic display windows and two (2) reflective cards may be recyclable, but waste shipping and shelving space. Keep the box.
2. Following the manufacturer’s written instructions to place the charger/receiver stand some distance from electronic devices is impossibe due to the short control cord supplied.
3. The software auto-installed without a hitch.
4. I was surprised to find the mouse already had a 2/3 charge. The three (3) light indicator is handy.
5. I installed two (2) on separate computers in the same room with no interferance whatsoever.
6. Having used a MS mouse for years, the edgy grip seemed foreign for several days, then became normal.
7. The default speed settings were too fast/figety but easily adjusted for my hand-eye preferences.
8. The combined tilt/pan and roll/scroll functionality is excellent. The various other buttons are easy to use.
9. My palm feels sweaty on the mouse’s shiny plastic surface after extended periods of use — a problem I never had with any satin skinned mice.
10. The instructions’ directions to turn the mouse “on” when re-charging seems counter-intuitive.
11. An annoying pop-up appears on-screen unless a selection is made to de-activate Logitech’s “service”.
12. After less than a week’s use, one of the two mice stopped responding to X-Y movement, requring re-packaging and return to the store for replacement.

the lifting issue
By: Magicdonut
October 19, 2004 @ 4:10 PM03ppm10>
if you read anything about the mx1000 you would have read that it’s a built in safety feature for the laser.
it’s to ensure morons do not lift the mouse and smoke themselves in the eye with the laser (even though it’s a class1) logitech is merely covering their bases legally and a lot of places have mentioned this already.
if you find you have to keep lifting your mouse to get enough tracking in an fps you might want to think about increasing sensitivity just a tad to make up for the safety shut off.

total garbage for gamers

October 13, 2004 @ 6:55 PM11ppm10>
The mx1000 has a terrible initialization lag whenever you pick the mouse up off of your mousing surface. It will get you destroyed in any moderately paced game. Try it for yourself, move your mouse rapidly, and pick it up on the transition going the other way, its ridiculous. Do a search on google for the mx1000 + this lag issue, you will find many others with the same problem. I called Logitech support, and they told me “the mouse is not intended to be lifted, return it if you are not satisified”. What a load of BS, a mouse you can’t lift up to reposition? I’m sorry but this mouse is a joke, and is far from the “ultimate mouse”

That and no MAC OSX implementation made it a bad move on their part. it ‘did’ work. but no programming and slow feedback.

Best mouse for Arthritis sufferers
By: J. Weinman
October 7, 2004 @ 9:02 AM36pam10>
I owned 2 MX 700. I thought it was great but I have Arthritis and my fingers swell almost every day. I found that i could use computers for about 2 hours before bed time.
I bought an MX 1000 2 weeks ago. It had so little drag to it that even my swollen fingers could operate it well with no extra pain.
Last week, my Doctor called to tell me to stop taking Vioxx and I worried whether not having any anti-inflamatory drug would affect my computer usage.
But the MX 1000 never changed its speed or its fine detail. But my remaining MX 700 was a bit more painful. I just ordered a second MX 1000 but it is back ordered. for a week. And price is great if you shop carefully.
Whereas both my MX 700, and my daughter’s unit all developed a common fault. The litttle piece of rubber that covers the connect button falls into the mouse. It still works as well but now you have to jiggle a pen point into the unit and get it to connect.
One gotcha on the MX 1000 is that it’s lettering is impossible to read for color blind people like me. And I still have to guess which side is on or off. But battery lights disappear when off, which how us color blind folks cope. i do wish that designers of web pages or devices choose only color backgrounds that pass the color blind test. There are more of us than you think.
