I’ve had this router for quite a while now. After extended use and configuration, and just messing around, I would have to say this is a huge waste of money. I’ve used several routers from other companies before. They all had MANY more features, better speed/performance, and are MUCH more reliable than this piece of crap. Microsoft should not be allowed to make hardware of any kind. Period.

excellent router

I bought this router as part of a kit (MN-820). Setup was easy and fast. The GUI is nice and displays information in a useful manner. I also had a problem with losing my connection to the net, but was easily fixed (Chris should read the troubleshooting section of the user manual…it says SP1 users should disable the 802.1x authentication). I also bought a Linksys WRT54G router at the same time to try out and compare and I ended up returning the Linksys!

Don't buy it, it sucks!

I bought this router based on reading a number of positive reviews that setup was a cinch using their utility and that it worked very well overall, esp. in its range. I was curious if it would provide me with a better range model than my current router config that I have from Motorola
In trying to install it, the software utility didn’t work to set up the base unit, so I had to config it manually, which wasn’t too hard. But, not long after having it up and running it regularly began losing the connection to the Net and conversations with MS failed to provide a resolution to the issue, despite hours of support.

easy home set-up

The mn-700 worked every time, exactly as advertised. As with every new wi-fi router, my netgear card took a little time and some frustration getting connected, but after it got the hang of it, the router worked perfectly, as advertised. The manual is one of the best written I have ever seen. I configured my box directly from the web browser, evidently you have to install the ms utilities (I’m always sceptical of what kind of information ms is gathering on me that it is not going to disclose unless ms thinks it is real important) to update the firmware. As of now, though, there are no firmware updates.
All in all, a fairly easy experience for a box I bought for $39.95 at Office Depot.
