Summary

Due to their low impedance, closed ear design the MDR-7506 headphones do an outstanding job of cutting down background noise while providing plenty of volume in the studio or in the field. Ideal for use with MIDI workstations, camcorders or other equipment with less than powerful headphone amplification.

The MDR-7506's are the best sounding headphones in the world. Don't waste extra money on a pair of studio headphones that offer extra features and other nonsense. I work in an electronics store and I can't believe some studio headphones go for $300+ and dont sound as defined, crisp, deep, and bright as these do.

The signal output of these headphones is a COMPLETELY Flat frequency response. People who are used to their "studio" headphones that offer head pounding bass will be thoroughly surprised to hear what true bass sounds like. Programs like iTunes and such don't even have EQ settings for frequencies low enough for the range of these babys. Muddy, head pounding bass is unneccessary, and after listening to your favorite songs on these, you will hear what they TRULY are meant to sound like, because odds are, the track may have been mixed using the MDR-7506's, as these are industry standard for music production. Must be heard to be believed. Highest Recommendation.

Bloated lows, steely highs, and squawky midrange. If you need closed phones, get the Senny 280. If not, get Grados.

These MDR-7506's are awsome! I just recently got into the market of buying a new set because my old set just worn out. And someone told me to check out the 7506's. The local Guitar Center had a pair that I could test out and when the clerk put some sound through them I loved them! The sound was sooo clear and crisp! But , to my amazement, the price was very considerable. I paid about $99.99 at GC. I would recomend this set to a listener of any genra of music. Don't miss a chance to hear them!

Agreed about great sound. Too bad they cheaped out on the paper-thin leather which rips away VERY easily and well within a few months of normal use.

I love this phone! The only complaint I have is the screw on 1/4 inch adapter stopped working on one channel, but tried another standard adapter and it worked just fine.

I have owned the Sennheiser 280s, and I have used my friends Beyerdynamic dt880 headphones. Overall I still feel the Sony's win out overall. Their frequency response is very close to flat compared to other headphones. Although the Sennheisers have a very warm midrange, but utterly no lows. I do agree that the high end is much more prominent and to a certain degree more shrill than other headphones.

For non-critical music enjoyment a pair of more neutral headphones will be more likely to catch the average listeners fancy. But if frequency response, impedance, and practicality are more important than these are hard to beat.
