this isn’t a recommended mp3.. it’s good for the first year but after that it gets all screwed and it often freezes. it’s a fragile mp3 so don’t let it get hit or dropped too much or else it will the inside part will get messed up.

this mp3 does have a lot of function once u get used to it (after you the user booklet). it’s actually not that bad.. u can listen to radio and the recording quality is ok. but i don’t really like it because it gets messed up a lot of times. i dont’ know wut i did with it but somehow when i put too many songs in one folder the songs at the end of list tend to overlap each other so I would be listening to the same other from like song 35-44. even tho i reformatted it many times it’s just really awkward. i don’t thikn the quality of this mp3 is that good.

I had the same problem… in order to fix it you have to go into mpio manager 2 and on the toolbar at the top click on memory and format internal memory… this will delete all of your songs but you will get all the default stuff back

After I formatted my mpio FY200 it became almost unusable! No radio, no icons, nothing but mp3s. It displays: “Download image files”. I wish I could have back the original company settings. Anyone knows how to help me? Please e-mail!

Hello I have a MPIO FY200 and have lost my disk to reinstall to use my recorder and to load music. I was wondering how I can get a new disk to be able to further use my player. Could you contact me at eather home (720) 963-9798 or e-mail me with a solution to this problem. Thank you.

Downloaded Music Manager and it changed the drive paths of my optical drivers. Downloaded the plug in so I could use Windows Media Player. Only plays part of an album, other tracks freeze up. Gave software and player to friend to try to install on his computer and it froze up twice. Had to reformat the player when it would choke time after time. Forget it. Get an iPod.

I love my FY200! I can directly encode from a CD source and record lectures at school. I had a little problem transferring music I had bought from Napster (WMA files); however, I merely purchased a power encoder at a cheap price and my music played back great! I listen to rock music so I do not notice any bass problems. Everyone at work envies my sleek little gadget (including ipod owners). Overall a great experience!

I don’t get it, when I transfer a song with the direct encoding line in feature from a CD player, the song sounds like it’s stereo but when I transfer the file to my computer and open it in a sound edit program it sees it as a mono file. What gives?? E-mail me if you know, please

  17. Mac Support

With Mac OS/X I am using iTunes 4 with the MPIO FY200 and that’s great. I can even transfer files in iTunes. I can’t however get this device to mount as a flash drive and cannot update the firmware. The manager software only works in Classic and even though I download a few different versions of firmware updates, It just doesn’t ’see’ them. You can update firmware in iTunes but it asks to locate the font as the first step in this process. What’s that all about?

Otherwise it seems to be a nice device. I bought an Archos pre-amp external mic but that doesn’t seem to work. i was hoping to use this to record concerts. I may have to go with another mic if that’s the problem or get an iRiver. I bought the MPIO over an iRiver because of the iTunes support.

The mp3 part of the player works great. But the fm radio is a totally different story. Sounds more like an am radio. Plain horrible. I am very disappointed. I think they shouldn’t advertise this feature at all.

  19. poor product

    June 22, 2004 @ 9:19 PM

One of the main reasons that had attracted me to the MPIO FY200 was it’s sleek looking design. However, looks can be deceiving. As I noticed after I opened the box and starting using it, I came to realize that it is not a product of high quality. The toggle switch used for navigation and seeking did not seem to be built with durability in mind. The spring action when pressing down on the switch (acting as a button) was not very sturdy. Also the battery and usb port covers seemed cheaply made. The file transfer software that came with it was terrible. I couldn’t delete any empty folders. I also couldn’t delete one of the sample .wmv files that came with it. As for the firmware updating, the directions given on the PC software and the FY200 display conflicted. The feeback was not very clear. The overall sound was not bad but the bass was pathetic. The built in EQ settings weren’t very impressive either. Lastly I found the auto power off music to be loud and annoying. I thought the user interface on the unit itself was pretty good. Its weight was also a plus (very light). But overall, not worth the money.

just got this 2days ago and im loving it’s portability and sound. very crisp. i integrated it with my car stereo sounds good. however, even with dynamic bass on and the equalizer set to full bass it just doesnt give enough punch. i hope they would make it to push more bass if possible. but only a minor setback. had my head unit in my car add more bass so it’s all good. find customizing the logo a little bit difficult but i figured it out. turned out nice. oh and the fm reception is great. i get radio signals even while im in the elevator. battery life (1 AAA).. considering i’ve been playing it/playing with it 2 days in a row and haven’t changed it thats pretty good.

This player is packed with features. easy to operate, great sound and extremely portable.
It was either the MPIO fy200 or the IPOD mini.
for $180-200.. this is a great deal.. ipod mini is selling at a premium right now anyway due to short supply.
the FM feature on the mpio is great.. and i don’t have to worry about any moving parts such as a microdrive or replacing a lithium ion battery such as in the ipod for $99..

I just got this mp3 player today! I had some trouble updating the firmware but I figured everything out at the end. ***Make sure you read the online instruction when you upgrade it!!! or else you will be screwed!!!***This player is great…it sounds great and it has nice functions but I have to say that the bass sucks…maybe mpio will release a firmware that upgrade the bass someday. The transfer rate isn’t that bad…it took me around 8 mins to fill up 256mb. Also, the battery and usb door seems cheap…

  24. Slow transfer speeds

    March 17, 2004 @ 8:17 AM

While I love this MP3 player for its look and its sound, I agree with this review for the most part. I find transfering files to the player using the included software is both slow and cumbersome. It takes upwards of 10 minutes to transfer an album and the flash interface of the program is just plain annoying. Good player, but it still needs some work.
