Flash problems

I did much research before I decided to get this camera. I am happy with all features except the flash. It leaves harsh black shadows around my subjects. I was told that this is the characteristic of a point and shoot. But I never encountered this problem with my old HP camera. A Nikon employee suggested that I add the SB 400 flash. Do I dare to invest in another Nikon gadget; will this additional flash solve the problem?

Best value in a 10MP compact camera.

I’m a retired newspaper photographer so I did my homework before choosing the P5000. The camera has so many features I had to carry the manual with me for the first few weeks. All it needs is an extra memory card (cheap these days) and a spare battery (also inexpensive) and I’m good to go shoot nearly 400 pictures in auto or manual modes. I’m making 11″ X 14″ prints out of Photoshop that are stunning.

I have used the Coolpix 5000 for sometime now and after handling 3 digital cameras find this to be the BEST in all ways. Great shots at a great price.

Good One

I own one and it’s good. Yet to try the manual control options. More noise above ISO200.
Surfing thro menus is bit tricky.
Pic quality is good.
Battery life is bad compared to Sony models. The LCD drains the battery quickly.
Zoom rocker is placed well.
Control dial is redundant.
