I like this phone

I am crazy for its great sound. I also love its slide design. It has become my friend. So I suggest all that it provides. Great sound with its headphones.

Not stereo in FM

Why my Nokia 5300 has only mono radio FM? After setting “stereo” – the “mono” music in radio FM play…

Poor slide construction

After 18 days of light usage, this phones connectivity between sliding halfs became intermittent. A real pain, and the carrier would not upgrade or change phone in any way! Junk.

Really poor quality
By: Joel Shreve
May 31, 2008 @ 3:42 PM04ppm5>
I purchased this phone in April 2007 and was very happy with it. It has plenty of features to lure me in and I like the slide design and the leather case. However, one day after church I looked at my phone and it had some black spots on a white background as if the lcd was destroyed. The phone functioned but is pretty much unusable without the screen. So I was suckered into believing there was nothing I could do about it (this happened in december), so liking the design, I bought a new one.
The replacement broke during a class at school last week. now I am really upset. I would recommend not buying this phone. Even if you take perfect care of it, you are looking at less than a year before it breaks without your help.

Piece of crap – going in for it’s second repair in less than five weeks – Nokia will not replace it and call centre would not escalate me higher than supervisor – save your money -stay away from Nokia phones – phone sucks and so does customer service when something goes wrong.

Has some flaws, but a great mp3 player and good signal
By: Dave Mason
February 11, 2008 @ 2:31 PM14ppm2>
I like this phone for the mp3 player, the sound is great, it gets great signal, the camera takes lousy pictures inside, even with good lighting, it takes ok pictures outside in daylight, not a big issue with me, I bought it for the mp3 player, I like that it has an organizer with a calendar, I’ve heard that it is a fragile phone and I haven’t had it that long so I will be careful with it, I ordered a clear case to protect it and never put it in my pocket, just the belt case, the mp3 has awesome sound and holds up to a 2 gig SD card, I bought this from t-mobile and found out they have crippled this phone from downloading 3rd party apps, so the software from Nokia does very little except it will rip CD’s directly to your phone and that is a good feature, I like that you can put gifs as your wall paper and screensaver, the battery seems to drain pretty fast but I have been using it a lot seeing it’s a new phone, I just keep a charger in my car and office, it should have come with a regular headphone jack not the smaller one that it has, you have to use an adapter that comes with it, I bought a pair of Body glove headphones and you have to use the adapter from the body glove to so I have to plug in 2 adapters than the headphones, then the function button on the cord won’t work, average phone.

Pretty good!

I’ve had my 5300 since March.
I’m not the careful of people with my phones and I’ve dropped it repeatedly (oblivious not on purpose), despite this my phone has continued to work well up until recently when I began to receive no signal where ever I am. I sent it back to 02 to be repaired and when I got it back, although the signal worked slightly better it still continues to fail for long periods of time.
Despite this, the phone itself is excellent. The quality is great and it’s really easy to use!
I love this phone and imp quite upset to have to buy a different on because of my clumsiness!

Okay Smart Phone
By: Earl Flask
October 31, 2007 @ 1:26 PM40ppm10>
This is an okay phone. It is butt ugly, but ugly and beauty are in the eye of the beholder. The music features work well for those who have their music as many short tracks. However, I like getting 10-15 hour audio books (wma format with Digital Rights management). The problem is that the music player views these as one track (a 15 hour track). If you are half way through the book, and you either shut down the phone or accidentally go to the next track (which I did this morning with the phone in my pocket), I has a 5 second fast forward mechanism, which makes advancing 7.5 hours SLOW and TEDIOUS. GRRRR! That is my biggest grip with this phone. There is a way to edit fast forward for the media player, BUT NOT the music player.
I think for most people, this phone will fit or exceed their expectations. For me, there are serious flaws, but overall I like the phone at the price I got it ($30 from T-Mobile). I am not willing to spend lots of money for phones. I considered getting a “free” Blackjack by going through Let’s Talk and changing to AT&T. But the AT&T plan is more expensive than the comparable T-Mobile plan (a family plan with 4-lines) plus the activation fees. I look at the total cost of running a phone for the cost of a phone, especially since these are usually 2-year contracts we’re talking about.
The other features of the phone are nice. I’m sure in the next year there will be many inexpensive smart phones coming out. My advice, know what you want before you buy. Especially if you’re with T-Mobile, because T-Mobile cripples the software API on their phones so you can’t download third party apps the way you can with some other phone companies (or, as in my case, write some of my own apps for the phone). See if the phone will really fit what you want it to do.

I love this phone. I got it or my birthday. But just recently it broke. I am now really depressed but I do have to agree. It was my fault it broke and it is a great phone. You just have to be careful with it. I really hope I can get another one like it. I miss this phone =[

Poor Quality - Not built to last long
By: Sinniah
September 9, 2007 @ 8:36 PM35ppm9>
I agree with Fitz. I had the phone for a total of three weeks. One morning I woke up and checked it as a I normally did. There was a big dot on the phone. I went to Rogers and they said it was caused by “water” damage, and was physical damage, thereby making it impossible for me to replace it. Overall, it looks great and fools people into buying it. Not built to last long.

I love the phone. I haven’t had any problems with it yet. Except the battery may not last as long as it should. I like that you can play games while you are on the phone, and that you can check the time while you are on the phone. I have alot of songs on it, and never have to buy ringtones again. Also, it has a great camera, unless you are in totally suckish light. If the phone breaks because you drop it, then that is your own fault for dropping it.

I don’t understand why the phone is bad when people can’t handle it properly. Any phone will break if dropped on the floor…get a Nextel rugged phone if you have butterfingers……….the phone is cool because it has a music player camera phone and is a storage device as well………I think it’s a very good phone for the price….has many features.

August 13, 2007 @ 9:53 PM43ppm8>
I bought a nokia 5300 in late may 2007. I loved it, all the features the styling. Then it just stopped working in late July. No water damage I didn’t drop it or anything. It just wont do anything except turn on and off. Not worth the cost of the phone if you ask me, its too much of a hassle to have to go out to buy a new phone after 2 months of use. This is a warning to people looking to buy, learn from my mistake DON’T!

Nokia 5300 poor quality
By: Fitz Dickson
July 26, 2007 @ 8:53 AM42pam7>
Warning to potential Nokia 5300 purchasers.
Lets get beyond what the Nokia 5300 looks like and what look like "COOL" or "Sexy" features. Just everybody offers a wide array of cool stuff on their phones today.
How does the Nokia 5300 stand up under normal, easy usage? IT DOESN"T. So all those "COOL" features just added to your wastage of hard earned money.
I bought a brand new Nokia 5300 in mid June 2007 from Rogers to upgrade my 3 year old Nokia 3220 which was a personal use phone. This was to be the 6th Nokia phone that our family has had in the last few years. The Nokia 5300 stopped working by July 7th. So the phone lasted 3 whole weeks.
The Nokia 5300 was carried in a leather pouch on my belt right beside my Blackberry 8703E which is my work phone. It was acquired 3 months ago to replace a Palm Treo 600 which was 2.5 years old and finally started to act up.
To make a long story short, the Nokia 5300 phone apparently became "water damaged". But the only water this phone was ever exposed to was humidity in the air.
I work in an office environment but have been known to venture outside the air conditioned office, house and car. Since I live in Western Canada, we are not talking excessive humidity levels. This might be a good phone if you were working in an arid climate like Saudia Arabia or Death Valley but forget it anywhere else. That slider case just does not seal up.
This same "humidity" has not bothered my 3 month old Blackberry 8703e, the Palm Treo 600 I had for 2.5 years nor the Motorola V330, T720 and StarTac phones nor the Nokia 3220. All of these phones were used in the exactly the same conditions and in the same environment and somehow none of them became water damaged from humidity. Hmm, maybe they had good quality cases.
So my recommendation to anyone who reads this is quite simple.
Nokia quality has seriously slipped downhill. It is obvious that their new 5300 phones are not adequately sealed against humidity and they of course refuse to stand behind their inferior, defective product.
Spend your hard earned money and buy something of quality like a Motorola, Sony Ericsson 810i, Samsung, LG or Sanyo.
If you do make a mistake and buy a Nokia 5300 for its cool features, well don’t say I didn’t warn you. …

Good

July 24, 2007 @ 10:34 AM03pam7>
5300 is a good phone… well if you really are into music, definitely, this phone is highly recommended… although there are some inconveniences using the phone, such as the hidden memory card slot… in order to change/remove your memory card, you have to do acrobatic moves to remove the very-difficult-to-remove back cover.. maybe nokia should have noticed that… it really sucks… besides that the casing easily gets dirty… but all-in-all the phone is good…

I had it 2 months. and the speaker had alot of static, my cell phone co. did send me a new part but it cost me another 10.00 for shipping. I since can’t seem to completely lock the back cover over the battery the one corner won’t stay down. I know if I go to my phone carrier they will have me buy a new part. I wondered if anyone else had these problems or did I get a lemon….
