To those who say that this camera is very slow & hard to focus, I think they better give more time to get used to the camera. I was thinking that way too at first.

After some time, I think this camera is great.

In the correct hands, this camera can produce very good photos.

I just sold my Sony H9 and bought the Olympus 550uz, what a GREAT decision. The Olympus is far superior in all areas except focus speed, If you want quality pictures and a Fantastic Macro buy this camera.

I bought this camera a week ago and was very pleased with the results until last night at my niece’s wedding reception. This camera wouldn’t even fire!! I was holding down and pressing the shutter button and NOTHING happened. I missed a lot of good shots, then it would wait several seconds and then take the picture. Very random. So I got a lot of the back of people’s heads etc. I am taking it back to the store for a refund. Very disappointed.

Fantastic camera. I have owned six different camera, four different manufactures, and this is by far the best. Massive zoom, wide angle, 7.1mp, what more can you want. I have printed full size posters and they are amazing.

  6. Great Images, Great Options

Being a DSLR user, I love the options this camera gives. Yes, the zoom is slow, and yes, the xd cards are slow…at least they are cheap! Part of the long time the camera took to save images to the card mentioned in the review was he/she probably had the noise reduction in the menu system enabled. Turn it off! It speeds things up considerably and does not affect how things work in JPEG mode since NR in on by default and does not slow things down. I’ve tried it both ways and it’s the menu option I’ve found that slows things down, so it’s permanently off on my SP550.

  7. I like it BUT.....

Great camera. Compared to my Canon S2IS it has a better wide angle, larger LCD screen. On the downsides there is quite a lot. Burst mode is next to unusable because the screen blacks out most of the time making it impossible to track an object. It is slow to write, focus and power up. No swivel screen, blooming of the screen when taking pictures, bad automatic white balance in low light. When Canon is coming out with a comparable lens I am switching back.
