I would rate this recorder a zero for ease of use – and the manual is, without a doubt, the worst owners manual I’ve ever read. It is absolutely useless.

I have had no problems with this component. It records as the ads and manual states. Recording quality is as good if not better than what the VHS contained. I have not used the TV functions of this as I have a HD box direct to my HDTV and have no need for it. As far as recording VHS or input from my camcorder, this thing is great. The only complaint is the manual. Too many icon use in the manual to show you what to press. If you are technically lacking in intelligence, then this product is not for you. All of the reviews from users that I have read indicate a lack of research prior to purchase. Do you due dilligence before buying anything. Once you have, you will see that if you are trying to convert VHS to DVD or vice versa or record from signal and also expect quality, then this product is for you.

  3. Possibly one bad unit.

After spending a couple of hours with Panasonic Tech support I discovered the Recorder wasn’t capable of creating chapter thumbnails. The book is almost useless. I wanted to believe (no help from the book) that I could see thumbnails of the chapters. No, after 3 calls to tech support I learned the chapters are created but you can’t see them. OK, I can live with that and decided to keep the unit. I’m exhausted after 4 days of reading trial and error and 3 calls to tech support. Then I pushed the eject button for the VHS tape and the tape stuck halfway out of the slot. I wiggled it with my swiss army knife and got it out. Tapes stick about half the time. Panasonic is one of the highest rated recorders and I have always trusted them. I am undecided what to do. If I exchange it like for like I’m thinking I’ll get another one that sticks. All of the other features work very well. But the book is a nightmare.
