  1. Yes, the earbuds hurt

Just picked these up this week, and as you might imagine, yes, the ear buds are painful after a few minutes. Not that this is unforeseen; the weight of the boom mic is supported solely by how snug the earpiece is in your ear, so over time it will begin to make your ear sore.

Other than that, I would have to say they work perfectly. Very clear sound for voice chat (I used it all week to speak over Ventrilo) and people I speak to on a daily basis said I sounded clearer than with my previous mic.

Very slick product, just be aware they take some getting used to.

  2. Its fragile and the case too short.

I really wanted this beautiful light phone to be my ultimate travel voip/music/sound-design solution, but it broke around the 6th time I put it into its case… and I’m used to dealing with delicate items!

    On the plus side…

I bought it when it first became available on the net, and took it abroad… as far as weight, size, and beauty, it’s wonderful. I like the dongle with the volume and mute feature.

    DETAILS…

Clearly, they need to bolster the sturdiness for it to be appropriate for road warriors that are usually in hurry and a LOT rougher on stuff than I. It would also be more convenient and time saving if they lengthened the case an inch.

The boom snapped right at the joint where the fancy chrome base of the flexible boom joins the rigid black plastic earpiece. So now it dangles & swings from a few exposed wires.

To be fair, one could theoretically make the headset all fit EXACTLY into the case by spinning the clear earpiece flange (which fits in the outer ear to help counteract the weight of the mic) toward the boom. However, this solution isn’t obvious, and is inconvenient and requires fiddling with it for the proper ear fit angle each time before use. There’s already enough to deal with trying to fit everything in the case, i.e.: the second earpiece, mute dongle, line clip, USB adapter (if you need it say for a Mac) and the other rigid line parts, all while trying to keep things neat to minimize the lines getting all tangled up, and ideally keep the boom’s shape intact.

The sound is a little too tinny for any serious sound design work or listening on the road… but it sounds OK for casual listening.

All the buds hurt my ears after a short while. This is not as much the case with my Bluetooth earpiece (though I DID have to buy some extra ear buds).

    I’m hoping Platonic’s makes good on a replacement… hopefully a sturdier one.

Minimally, I hope that Platonic’s starts to include instructions in its manual about how to best twist and fold up this extremely fragile item before fitting it in its case.
