Died after a year

I have recorded a couple hundred dvd’s and after about a year it quit recognizing the discs. I took it to a repair shop and they said it would cost over $100.00 to fix it. That is more than I paid for it, or can get a new one for.

Won't last more than a year

I’ve owned one of these for several months. It just died–it no longer recognizes discs. This is a symptom of a poorly designed/built laser sub-sytem. I had an old CD player that exhibitied similar symptoms with a bad laser. In addition, I work with lasers. They have a finite life, and if they are mis-handled during manufacturing, they have an even shorter life. I got an average of five hours of recording and playback per week out of this thing. I didn’t expect this thing to last forever, but I did expect more than a year.
This unit also has (had) two other problems. First, it has a software bug that causes the thing to lock up every couple of months. It must be unplugged from the wall to reset itself. (Pushing the power butting doesn’t help.) Second, the remote control has tiny buttons that are an annoyance.

Cant find any DVD+R’s that seem compatible. The recordings ONLY play back on itself, they skip and lock up on 2 of my other DVD players. Thank god for TiVO, this is almost useless.

Not User Friendly

The quality of videos recorded are good. But the manual is not user friendly and the on-screen menus and instructions are even worse.
