I have own serval cell phones from the motorala classic to the Samsung Black Jack 11.

And I must conclue with my final vertic, that in my reserved opinion,I find for the Samsung BlackJack ll to be the best cell I have own, with one exception, the QWERTY LAYOUT.”Separate the letters from the numbers”.

I have had three different blackjack phones because AT&T will not give me a different phone ,but must say it is the worst cell phone ever all three phones were crappy ,speakers suck and “tty” kept enabling and disabling on it’s on , dropped calls, buttons stick. Must say do your research I have learned my lesson.

Every (and I mean EVERY) call gets dropped. The call history log gives me call dates two years ahead and it doesn’t stayed powered up long enough to last through a half of a day of short calls. Avoid if possible, I miss my Blackberry.

  6. Bad Phone

About the only thing I can say about this phone that I like is the mp3 player. Mine is 3 months old and the water sticker in the back was activated by carrying it my shirt pocket the summer, the phone has never been ‘wet’. But the sticker is red now. After a couple of months I have began having trouble with the phone and the first thing they said at Cingular when I called about the problems I was having they asked about the water sticker and said well the phone has gotten wet so you must have done it. To get it fixed you will have to pay for water damage. The sticker is very close to the edge of the battery cover and not protected. Sounds like Cingular is trying to get out of fixing the phone by putting the sticker so close to the edge of the battery cover.

The battery life is AWFUL…no matter how much you charge it; it’s always down. Also the keys do freeze up. I also miss calls, they go straight to voice mail and the phone never rings…I am really disappointed; it “looks” good but not a great phone.

I am a 17 yr old kid and you know like another kid I love to text well texting on this phone is a pain. I can’t hardly press one button without hitting another. I don’t like that it only gives you 2 options on color schemes and over all I really don’t like the phone. I have 2 friends that got theirs with me and the both broke soon after…one’s screen cracked when he walked out of the cool air into the sun and the other just fell in half and all. Now I am just waiting till mine messes up. Oh the phone also freezes up and stays that way for quite some time.

  9. The Blackjack lacks user friendlyness 6 out of 10

The first smartphone I used was my wife’s Treo 650. The Blackjack’s smaller size and weight beats that out but the AT&T/Cingular network in Chicago is not as good as Verizon’s.

The Blackjack’s smaller keys were an O.K. trade off for me vs. the Blackberry(s) wider size. I must say that the biggest drawback is the inability to transfer whatever I want from the sad phone’s memory to the micro 2GB SD card I bought for it. I am constantly deleting old text messages and the like to free up memory.

SAMSUNG- make memory management a priority and don’t be so stingy with memory on future phones!

The Samsung Blackjack is great in my opinon. Many many features the phone does great besides the 3G service. Thank god it’s there to back you up. With the older edge technology hopefully AT&T will work it out with there new stuff. Besides that I have yet to have problems with the phone. Maybe you should try running the battery completely dead next time you decide to buy a new one before you charge it ask your sales rep he/ or she will also tell you the same and with the drop calls turn your phone off for at least 5 minutes a day before constant use to get the best results maybe try these ans they might just work out for you!

  11. So...so

It’s a nice sleek design with a decent program layout. It has a solid feel like many of the other samsung phones I have used/demo’ed. I really wish the Bluetooth functions of this phone were more intuative. The phone does not have the ability to set Bluetooth priorities so you have to mannually select different devices (when I get in my car, I have to pull out the phone, disconnect from my headset, and then reconnect to the car’s internal wireless. Also, the phone does not support voice dialing of any kind. What is the sense of having a wireless connection if you have to pull the phone out to dial. The one last little irritation is the micro SD card. You have the ability to store pictures/media on the card but can not move your contact list there or store any applications on the card. If it were not for these few oversights, I would have given the phone an 8 or 9. On a side note, my wife’s older PEBL (for t-mobile) does have voice dialing and Bluetooth priority settings and here phone is almost 2 yrs old… I guess technology does not always advance?!?

I bought this phone shortly after it came out, and right away it started having problems. The battery life just sucks! Dropped calls. Freezes constantly. I called and got a replacement Blackjack, and started using a brand new battery, and except for this one not freezing up constantly, I am having the same problems. The battery life on this one seems much worse than on my previous one. At least I could get a full hour of standby time on my previous Blackjack. This phone was and is way too hyped up for itself. I have ended my frustrations of it though. I now have bought the AT&T 8525. Sending my so-called "superb" Blackjack to the garbage dump, right along with other cell phones that sucked for me.

  13. Nice tech device, drops calls daily....

After 6 months of use I still like the Blackjack. AT&T needs to finish the 3G network in metro Detroit. Dropped calls are still a problem in some suburban areas. If I need to make an important call I use my Verizon cellphone.

Am I looking forward to the next generation Blackjack with Wi-Fi ? Only if it includes a transmitter for use as a universal remote or garage door opener!

  15. Not a great choice

First off, when I bought the phone, it was great then issues started up continuosly. The phone began to drop calls at least 1 in 3. The phone woul go from full service to no service while in the same location. The calls would drop and then a redial would say that the phone cannot make the call because of no service, yet it showed full bars. The other downside to the phone is the fact that if you have a longer ringtone or the text/alert/email notification, when the tone is not silenced before it goes off, there is no way to silence it once it starts. Even when you read the message, the ringtone may still be going off…learned that when i forgot to put it on silence during a meeting. Had everybody listen to 20 seconds of a song and sat there unable to silence it. Anyhow, enough of the negative ramble, cause i could go on for longer but Cingular will be sending me a new phone after they have sent me to many different technical help people becuae clearly it may just be this phone in particular but i am very unhappy with the performance.

This is the worst "phone" I have ever had.

1 out of 4 calls are dropped. 3 bars and the call just drops. Every other word is heard on calls. Just a BBBAAADDD phone. The other "services" may be fine but we are buying a "PHONE" to talk on and this one FAILS in that department.

This phone is awesome, I love it. I have only one complaint. The battery life sucks. But what could you expect in an ultra slim phone? Although the extended battery is included, it is very difficult to replace batteries in my phone. It also takes some getting use to when dialing numbers because the numbers are spread out which make it fairly difficult to dial a number. However, the internet and everything on it are very fast so with that said, i give it a 9.

  18. Incredible Phone

I upgraded to the Blackjack from the Motorola MPX220 win mobile and I have never been so blown away by its abilities. Granted the battery life is short when in a 3G zone. However, an extra charger at work does it for me. The camera and video camera are incredible. The pdf viewer is so handy and now that I have a 2gb memory card, I have tons of my ipod music on it. The speaker is loud and crisp and provides the perfect audio device for camping, golfing, etc. The browser is FAST and feels like I’m on my computer. The absolute best part is the Google Maps that you can download which has traffic. An absolute must. I must say I was unhappy when I first got it becasue of the battery, however, I swear it lasts much longer now after using it a few months. Yes, the keyboard is cramped but i use my finger nails and I’ve had no problems since. Its compact size and slimness are well worth it. I’d buy it again if I had to.

If you break or scratch the screen you have to get another phone. You might as well it cost you the same to get it fixed as to get it repaired. What kind of engineer would design such a device. Do not purchase this phone it is a mistake.

  21. Stay Away From This Phone
    Steve T.

    January 18, 2007 @ 9:00 AM

Let me begin by telling you that I personally own the Blackberry 8700C, the Palm Treo 650 and 680 and now the Blackjack. I will tell you that the Blackjack drove me nuts. First off, forget all the bad reviews of the battery. It’s not a huge issue unless you are on the phone all day and have no charger with you. Battery life is totally acceptable. What is not acceptable is the fact that the center jog dial is soclose to the end and send button that you are constantly exiting out of whatever you were doing because of it. I have small fingers too.

Next is the whole Windows Mobile experience. It stays open and guess what? The more things you open, the slower it gets and trust me when I tell you, this phone is painfully slow. Also, the screen scratches very easily. Everything that plugs into it is proprietary of course so plan on spending some bucks there.

Last but not least, this phone is not “user friendly” at all. It took me quite a while to get the hang of moving around in this phone and I build computers, so what does that tell you? My advice is to get yourself the Treo or the Blackberry if you are going to do a lot of email.

  22. Great Phone!
    Mike

    January 14, 2007 @ 5:02 PM

I got the black jack a little under a week ago, and love it! You hear a lot of the same stuff in these reviews, such as bad battery life, keys being too close together, micro slot, etc. A couple of clarifications: they are aware that the battery isn’t amazingly long, and that is why they not only give you a second batter, but also an external charger.

I would consider myself a moderate user, and can get through two days with a fully charged battery. They keyboard is obviously going to be cramped, with the sleek design and style of the phone. They micro slot is hard to get a media card to ‘lock’ into place, but once you do you can just shut the ‘flap’ and not have to deal with it any more.

A large negative for me, was that you CANNOT use standard headphones with this phone. You have to buy the special ones. Another negative is that every time you charge, or insert head phones into the phone, you have to pull open a flap. Enough on the negatives.

Calendar works great, and syncs excellent with the outlook calendar. Cingular express mail is super easy to set up, but when you send an email, it says ’sent with cingular express mail’. The color screen is amazing! Many comments on that one. the scroll wheel on the right side, makes up for the screen not being a touch one. many additional features. like currency converter, XM radio, games, and cingular music. One thing to watch out for, is that you have to buy a micro SD card if you want to put songs onto it! I was not able to put any one with out it, because set up required more space on the phone. I love it, and recommend it to many!

Needed the pdf manual to supplement the getting started guide.
Difficult to insert micro SD card
Menu structure difficult to follow – familiarization will improve information. Tasks should be the set at the same level as contacts and calendar. Unique phone jack meant that additional costs incurred should have provided ear piece with unit
    Attractive phone which works well
