  1. Good Internet Radio for the $$

I bought the Sanyo R227 because of the price and because it has two speakers. I gave my dad the Tangent Internet Radio recently and fell in love with it. The Tangent was $299 recently reduced to $249. I paid $187 with shipping for the Sanyo. I like the Sanyo, only problems are display doesn’t give any scrolling track info as the Tangent does. On the four lines, it only displays Station Name, # kbps, Real Enabled(???) and the time. Plus, the sound quality is only decent, not great. I may plug in into a Bose Wave for improvement with that. For the display, perhaps Sanyo can upgrade the Firmware (which has downloadable updates) to include scrolling song track info instead of #kbps, or “real Enabled.” Internet radio is awesome and overall I am happy with the unit for the price.

I’ve had a Sanyo Internet radio for a couple of months and am very pleased with it. At first, the way it works seems clunky, but it’s very intuitive and you soon get used to it. I like the sound of a table radio for listening to a mixture of music and talk on foreign radio stations. I can finally listen to radio stations I listened to years ago in Europe without being in the same room as my computer or even having my computer on! Very nice!

I’ve been using Slim Device through Starband Internet satellite. It doesn’t work reliably. Has anyone tested the Sanyo R227 over a satellite Internet connection?

I wonder if it’s possible to do firmware updates on this unit. I sure wish it supported flac. Seems like a great way to get the audio files on my computer to the home stereo.
