I owned 2 pairs of CX300, one from Apple store @HKD699 (USD85) and one from street @HKD298 (USD35). They have very similar, if not identical, packing and outlook. Sounds from them appear similar, particularly the character, and the mid & high ranges. But the bass is definitely better from the one cost more. I saw many posts on the web that there are faked Sen earphone, particularly the CX series as many other brands are sharing the same externals. So to secure your spending, make sure you get it from a reliable dealer. The CX300-II does look different and may solve the problem.

I had a pair of CX 300’s but when they broke ( 1.5 year of heavy use) I bought AKG K324 P, then I realized how good they were. Very deep, head shaking lows, clear and precise mid and highs. AKG’s were supposed to be higher class but they are nowhere near the sound quality of the Senns. Connect them to a PC with a decent sound card and you’ll see what I mean, no distortion, no let go until you the feel pain in you head, 110+ dB. Enjoy !

I have compared Bose earphones, Shure e2c, e3c, and the Sennheiser CX300’s. These are the best earphones I have ever used. The bass and sound pressure level plus crystal clear mids and highs trick your ears into feeling like you are live in concert. Absolutely the best and super comfortable. Also I have ripped these earphones out of my ears at the gym many times, sweated into them from running marathons, and they stand up to the best.

Firstly… the sound quality for these phones are very decent considering the category they’re in. They’re not quite earbuds but not ear canal phones either. For those who complain about “terrible” sound from this it is very likely that you simply don’t have a good fit (fit is quite important for you to achieve the right sound). In particular an earlier review about the asymmetrical cord getting in the way… well of course it would if you were wearing the cord in front (STUPID.)… asymmetricals are meant for the cord to loop and rest over your shoulders so that the cord is now behind your neck and out of the way. Otherwise I find the cx300 to have very reasonable amounts of base (though somewhat lacking in color), slightly muddled mids, with decent highs. As for price… there are tons of places to browse for cheaper ones, you simply have to be careful not to buy the fakes floating around. Find a more trusted seller/retailer.

Very fragile

I saw these earphones at the store like 110$! I had bought mine 25$ and let me tell you that for 110$, I could find a better one. The quality is not worth the price and the buds they give you are bad compared to other noise-cancelling buds.
However, the design is pretty nice and very light but its fragility and because of the cold, they went from stereo to mono!
So my verdict: nice earphones but not worth the price

I bought genuine CX300. I use many earphones since many years, trying to get a pure sound. I have 3 different Sennheiser earphones and the CX300 is definitively the worst. Where are the low frequencies??? Yeah, the sound is crystal, clear and so good, but there is a serious lack of bass.
It gives the best sound I can get from small earphones, but the original iPod earphones have more bass. I paid about $30 for that. It’s fair. The price I see in local stores is about $99. It’s really too expensive for the sound quality.
If you plan to use it in the bus, forget it, the bus vibration will take the lead on the bass.

My husband just proudly bought a pair of these headphones for me after hearing from a friend about how great they are. I have used them a couple of times while working out, and have found that I have to keep trying to talk myself into liking them. Well, I just broke down in irritation after a workout on my elliptical and told my husband that I was very sorry to admit to him that I dislike these headphones so much, it borders on hate. The asymmetrical cord (right side far longer than left and not adjustable) makes them hang from your ears in the most annoying way possible. The cord is made of a material that bunches up and won’t stay close to your body. Combined with the asymmetrical shape, this makes for a cord that contorts and bounces around, constantly in your line of vision and brushing against your face when you’re on the move. Additionally, I used the smallest ear buds they come with, and still have to wrestle them into my ears, and constantly fiddle with them to make them stay in. Lastly, I do not care what anyone says about the sound quality– sound is not very good. Bose is much better, and even the standard phones that came with my iPod are superior. In essence, you are best to stay away from these until some serious improvements are made. They are a waste of money.

Needs to be better

I have bought the cx-300 as an introduction to canalphones. I come from a high-end audio enviroment.
Before the cx-300 I was using the mx-500. The sound is far better in the mx-500 but the little sound isolation in the cx-500 makes you hear music at lower volume overall so that’s a good thing to have in mind (people tends to blast their ears these days).
Trying to be a little more specific:
– bass is deep but lacks texture, it is the ‘one note’ bass
– mids are a tad hollow and would improve with a little more body
– highs are on the bright side
Conclusion: the mx-500 offer a far better sound for a fraction of the price but the cx-300 are more confortable and will help a little with your hearing health.
Taking in account that many time the source (ipod, zen micro …) is the limiting factor the decission is your.
N.B. DO NOT make an opinion on either of these earphones when brand new, they definitely need a fair amount of break-in.

I wonder if all the post in here made after using genuine CX300. If you bought a cheap fake at ebay and do not like the sound quality, please do not post your opinion and do not confuse others. CX300 >EP630 definetely.

I would say that the only thing that’s worth complaining about, is the fact that symbal-sound and such gets a little blurry when you turn the volume really high. But then again, there iit isn’t nesessary to turn the volume so much up.

The Senheiser CX300 is a decent earphone but it is overpriced and does have alot of cheap fakes. I have actually tried genuine CX300 and a pair of fake from Amazon.
I would not recommend either the real thing or the fake because both are overpriced for what they are.
I would recomment 2 alternatives that are as good as the CX300 but alot cheaper (tried both):
Creative Labs EP-630 is better value than the CX300 and close in sound. Don’t buy this earphone on ebay or amazon as it is also faked (same as cx300 fake but with diffrent marking).
Soundwise T4 has identical specs to the CX300 and comes with a carry case. It has a lower price tag and does not seemed to suffer from fakes. Similar to the CX300 it also has 2 years warranty. I have only seen a couple of sites selling Soundwise earphones and could not find much info on the company. There customer service was efficent and friendly enough though.

I have these, the sound is very good and really does cancel out outside noise. The fittings are not necessarily good, but if you change them then you will find a better fit.

I used to have a pair of Sennheiser CX300’s and thought they were better than my friends Sony Ex71. I now sport a pair of Soundwise TC20. My girlfriend also uses the Cresyn EP630 and although not as good as the TC20 it blows the Cx300 out the water!

Elecrtical Shocks In My Ears

The little aluminium rings on the outside of the buds and carry a static electricity charge up to the inside of your ears, which is very painful. This has happened many times on treadmills and aeroplanes.

Definitely not worth the retail price tag that I had purchased them for on eBay. It was under $15CDN.
Good:
* bass response
* volume level
* rubber coating makes them hard to tangle easily
* behind the neck fit
Bad:
* ear fit is horrible and i found them falling out quite a bit
* sound is very drowned out and hollow, i actually prefer my cheap ipod stock earbuds
* very little response on the higher frequencies
The last 2 bad points outweigh all of the pro’s

The bass is good but the fitting isn’t that good. I used the large caps and still it won’t fit in my ears!
3 Bad things about this product:
1. Overpriced!
2. Terrible cord feedback
- Sounds like a metallic sound that’s heard whenever something brushes against the cord.
- AVOID this if used for workouts as there’s too much motion involved resulting in lots of cord feedback noices!!
3. Very flimsy
- Just had it for 24 hours when my iPod dropped and the cord was yanked with it! The left bud wiring was literally torn off while the right bud was still attached but the wiring was stretched so that the thin wires were exposed!
- VERY FLIMSY workmanship!
Stick with the regular PX100 which has the best bass and sound quality from Sennheiser!
It’s not that good for workouts, though, since the pads do soak up the sweat!

Where's the bass?
By: Bob
December 28, 2006 @ 7:37 PM21ppm12>
Quite disappointed in the lows, missing that “robust bass” others speak of. Perhaps it has all to do with the size of the ear canals, and not the buds themselves. I do know that the Sanyo’s that came with my Nexus 25 XM portable player sound better than the Sennheiser CX 300 buds. I’m stepping up to the latest Bose in-ears, and will throw these in my junk drawer.

Great compromise

December 8, 2006 @ 11:27 PM35ppm12>
These don’t sound as good as “true” canal phones like the shures and etymotics, but they are much easier to put in and much more comfortable. My Shure E2s made my ears ache after wearing them for any length of time. The sound quality of the CX-300s is very good for the price, significantly better then the apple in-ear phones and a huge improvement of course on the buds that come with ipods. To my ears they sound very comparable to the deservedly much-praised Sennheiser PX-100s, but they don’t make you look like a geek! Anyway, when it comes to canalphones, comfort is as important as sound quality, and these are an excellent compromise between sound quality and comfort.

Just purchased a set of cx300 after reading a couple of good reviews towards these headphones. They were meant to replace the original headphones supplied with Samsung YP-UI MP3 player. I must say that I was totally disappointed with the results. The bass frequencies sounded rather muted coupled with too much emphasis on treble sound. They sounded very unnatural and flat compared with the original set. I must say they do no justice to the well known Sennheiser brand.

I have had these for a few months and I like them a lot. My biggest gripe is that any vibration on the cable will produce noise. It can be rather annoying and noticeable during quiet moments of a song. Otherwise, with music playing you hardly notice it.
