I’ve had this device for 2 years. It has been sent back for repair once ($75.00 shipping) and that was within the first year of ownership.
Pros:
= Very compact and attractive construction.
= Recorded DVDs are compatible with other DVD players.
= Nice “Dub-to-fit/Exact Dubbing” feature. Can pile up to 6 hours of video to one DVD (DVD-R / DVD-R/W
= Pleny of connectors (COAX, RCA, SV, Progressive Component
= SV, RCA on front for easy connection.
———————————
Cons:
= TERRIBLE onscreen menu design making it very difficult to edit / DUB / manage recordings
= Can’t schedule a recording if the device is busy recording a show.
= Can’t copy/RIP a burned DVD. Its copy protected! EVEN DVD Decrypter wont read them!
= SLOW to respond to remote control. Even with new batteries you have to press the buttons on the remote multiple times.
= Attempts to “edit out commercials” is complicated by the poorly designed remote control and the unresponsive recorder.
= VCR Plus+ Probably the worst implementation TV scheduling ever! Strictly stoneage technology.
= The only place to get warranty repairs is to ship it to Indiana using their $75.00 shipping arrangement. Slow turnaround 6-8 weeks to repair!
= Noisy for a bedroom device.
Summery:
Having had a REPLAY TV for 4 years and now have 2 computers configured as DVRs (One WIN-MCE, One Beyond-TV), I can say the best option available currently is a PC configured as a DVR with Replay/TIVO next.
