Poor Pictures
By: Robert Lang
April 22, 2009 @ 9:57 AM00pam4>
I am a Sony product believer. But the DSC-W90 camera has always taken blurred and blotchy pictures. I usually take several pictures until one would come out good. Recently I was at a graduation where the pictures were one shot. No pictures with motion were taken with good quality. I can not recommend this camera and now I question Sony’s products lineup. My son purchased a less expensive camera of another brand and it works great. Do not waste your money.

The camera works great taking pictures outdoors in bright light, but I’m yet to take decent shots in low light situations. The pictures appear blurred and blotchy.
With all the settings available, I’m thinking that I probably just don’t have it set right. It’s been eighteen months and I’m still trying to figure it out. In the meanwhile, I’ve been in once in a lifetime situations where the camera has failed me.

Save your money and buy Canon

Product was good until it stopped working. Then I had to deal with Sony customer service. Four phone calls later (including the call back when they ‘accidentally’ hung up on me), finally they told me that because my unit had corrosion, they have voided the warranty, and I would be required to pay $111 for the service repairs. After I got back into my chair, I asked them to help explain how a product could become corroded in it’s case on a shelf. They told me that if I took my camera from a cold climate to a warm climate, it would start corroding, though ‘that was not necessarily what happened with your camera’. Maybe Sony should send out a proactive customer notification that for anyone in a cold climate, don’t take your camera on vacation!! Best part was it hasn’t left ‘the cold climate’!!
Save your cash. Buy anyone but Sony!

Don't Buy This Camera

I am a scrapbooker so good quality photos are very important to me. My husband originally purchased a different camera for me for Christmas last year, then second guessed himself and returned that camera and spent extra money to buy me the Sony Cyber-Shot. Big disappointment. Picture quality is absolutely terrible. If you want good pictures, do not buy this camera. Some pictures will come out fine, but others do not. You can’t depend on it for important events such as CHRISTMAS, COLLEGE GRADUATIONS, etc!!! Very disappointed and heartbroken!!!

November 3, 2008 @ 11:06 PM04ppm11>
I am exteremely disappointed in the 8.1 Meagpixel DSC-W90 Cybershot. I am lucky if one out of 10 pictures is usable 90% or more of the pictures are blurry, even if use a tripod. If there is the slightest movement of the object the picture is blurry. I was a Sony diehard for years but between my camera and laptop issues I will never buy a Sony product again.
My support experience was basically asking what software I use and asking me to reinstall the Sony Software. They were nice enough to offer to have me pay to fix the crappy camera they sold me.

I am very disappointed in the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W90. It does not take good pictures at all. Pictures are blurred more often than not. If you want to take good action shots, FORGET ABOUT it! It won’t happen. I am usually a Sony fan, this camera is quickly changing that. The one thing that I do like is the fact that you can download your own background music for slideshows.

GOT WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!
By: Gami Sanchez
July 13, 2008 @ 6:42 PM58ppm7>
I purchased this because my nikon 4.2 MP camera was old and depressing. At first I had some issues with blurry pictures but after learning how to actually use this camera I was able to get what i want out of it. I often go to track days (auto) and take pictures of cars/bikes flying by. I have it set now that I can just have the wheels blurred which looks really cool. I also take some video and found out that it didn’t too bad either. In car video is acceptable and now I don’t feel the need to get a $400+ “race camera” set up.
All in all the camera does a good job. Could use some more zoom but if you need crazy zoom i feel that maybe this camera isn’t for you.

Action shots are blurred
By: David
July 11, 2008 @ 11:03 AM26pam7>
Since my Canon power-shot bit the dust while I was overseas, I had to buy a new camera on the fly. I figured going with a name brand like Sony should be okay.
The problem I have with the camera is that action shots are often blurry. Any motion at all and the pictures are blurred. I suspected that I didn’t have the camera properly set and took it to a Sony dealer to make sure the settings are correct. I still get blurred action shots on occasion. The Canon was much better at taking motion shots.

DSC-W90 Sony Cyber shot VERY INFERIOR
By: Patty
June 10, 2008 @ 9:19 PM34ppm6>
This is absolutely the worst camera I have ever owned. It takes blurry and grainy pictures. To make matters worse, Sony refuses to acknowledge the fact that this camera is worthless or to do anything to make it right with me. So be forewarned, Sony won’t stand behind their products and they don’t care about their customers.

May 28, 2008 @ 1:08 PM18ppm5>
This is my 2nd Sony camera. My first one (at 3.2 MP) was great! I loved it immensely! It died at Christmas so I was in the market for a new one. My husband and I researched cameras in stores and online for almost a month. The reviews for this camera/price were great, and the test shots in the store(s) were great too. We purchased it in Feb. I absolutely HATE this camera. Since day one … I have had nothing but blurry pictures. I’ve missed some great opportunities of my 2 kids because of this. I’m happy some of the other reviewers have had great experiences w/this camera, and my husband and I tend to think we actually got a bum camera, and are not bashing the entire line, but I am extremely disappointed that I have to spend MORE $$ on a new camera just a few shorts months after purchasing this one! Very, very, very upset!

I am a game design student and do a lot of 3D modeling. So I use this camera for taking lots of reference pictures. I also use it for texture hunting. The portable nature of the camera is great and the menus are extremely comprehensive. The button layout is nice.
I also am an avid hobbyist and I paint plenty of 28mm models and the camera takes great close ups of these.

Ive come across alot of these cameras that have lens problems. The lens stops working and or jams up and its a b$#%^ to fix. Sony wants $80 just to look at it. Parts are overpriced. The design and weight is great, the camera is light and small and takes good pics. Im lookin to another brand though.

I’m not sure why other posters are saying that they have blurry picture… case of the shakes maybe? I’m an avid hiker and the camera takes great pictures even in strong winds without the use of a tri or mono-pod. The only down side is I wish the camera zoomed a little closer, but with the weight being so light I can’t really complain.

I’m a landscape architecture student so I take and observe a lot of pictures of landscapes and flowers. I thought this camera was going to be so great for these things – NOT! It was wonderful at taking pictures of distant landscape but when it came to flower close ups I almost died. Blurry, unfocused and just disgusting. I’m really upset I spent so much money on this camera. Get something else and save yourself a headache.

I like this camera. My pictures came out great, topnotch image quality and good design. I bought this camera with a promo… with cable, memory card and extra battery. Transferring my pics to my computer is never a problem. I was so thrilled and immensely satisfied. Although I find the optical viewfinder unusable because I strain my eye trying to focus when I use this… it’s so tiny. Lacks some features that I would normally want but performance wise it’s a good camera to own. Not a junk I say when you know how to use it!

January 4, 2008 @ 10:23 AM01pam1>
Had a Sony DSC-S90 previously and was very happy with it. So did little research before purchasing this camera. My mistake as this camera is a big disappointment. If there is a large area of colour in a photo it appears grainy (noisy). If there is any movement in a photo it is a blur (which is always the case when shooting a toddler). Do not buy this camera.

Very, Very Unsatisfied
By: Katie Ward
December 26, 2007 @ 10:37 PM11ppm12>
I received a Sony digital camera as a gift in 2005. Within 3 months that camera was defective. I was given a replacement that was defective less than 2 weeks after receiving it. So, I asked to upgrade to the 7.2 mp. It was ok for about 3 months and it was defective. I sent it in to be fixed and upon receiving it, it worked for about 3 months, and the same problems started over again. I have upgraded yet again to the W90 8.1 mp in July 07 (the 8th camera in less than 2 years) and it is now defective. I have had great help from the store the original camera was purchased at. But Sony has done absolutely nothing; including saying that to fix one of the many broken ones; it would cost over $300. Why would I pay that for some defective mechanism in their camera, that was less than a year old, or when I could buy a new camera (and not a sony) for less money???
For such a “great” brand I would not recommend this to anyone. I will never buy another Sony product of any kind.

By: Victoria
December 8, 2007 @ 9:05 PM50ppm12>
This is our second Cyber-Shot. The old one was a 7.2 mp and we absolutely adored it. It would take a fantastic picture every single time. We used it A LOT and it eventually got dirty on the inside. The local camera repair guy said it would be cheaper to buy a new camera instead of cleaning the old one…so that’s what we did. Who knew the new fancy one would be so terrible. I have fiddled with the settings in many indoor and outdoor situations and it still fails to take a decent picture. They are grainy, the flash is terrible and the red-eye simply does NOT work. We’re seriously thinking of returning this junker.

I’ve had this camera now for about three weeks (one week over the 14 day satisfaction guarantee return policy) and so far I am QUITE unhappy with it. If I’d known it’s at its best when shooting sunny outdoor photos only I definitely have selected another model or brand. The indoor medium range (5-15 feet) and average brightness photos are horrific. There is quite an amount of noise (grainy) in the solid colors that actually detract from the image as a whole. Sony failed on this one and I failed by not reading the reviews before I paid cash. Oh well… lesson learned.

I do not like this camera. I wish I would have gotten the Canon like I had before. The battery takes forever to charge and easily dies. It doesn’t have a USB plug which is a real pain to download picture. I would not have bought it if I would have realized it. The setting dial easily changes. It claims it’s a super steady shot…I disagree. There are too many steps to do anything on it. I don’t like this camera and wish I bought a canon. Especially for $300.00- not happy.

Pricey for quality of photos- TERRIBLE RED EYE!
By: Amy Stanley
November 13, 2007 @ 11:27 AM08pam11>
I am EXTREMELY disappointed with my Sony Cybershot. I was deciding between this one and a Canon and I really wish I would have gone with the Canon. The main reason I don’t like it is because even with the Red Eye button on- I get the worst red eye I have ever seen on a camera- even when I look away from the flash. Yes, I can edit it on photoshop but when you do that it basically makes your eye look black and beady after the edit- especially if it is at night. For the $300 I paid for this camera, I am kind mad about this! I have blue eyes and it is in almost every picture. I will not be buying a sony again.

I am by no means a photographer, but my wife and I recently had our first child and we needed an upgrade on our digital camera. I have been nothing but happy the past week. It’s a very simple camera to operate, which is a big plus for me. Very short lag time so that you don’t miss shots in the moment. I have been surprisingly impressed with the ISO mode, which provides very nice, natural looking photos in low light. I think that this is the perfect point and shot for any novice looking for great quality with simple operation.

Granted, photo buffs will bock at this tiny marvel when compared to the Nikon D40X. But in its defense, this little package is speedy and easy to use during those times when an SLR is not convenient. Sony, way to go with the OS and ease of use. I do wish the program modes were a little more flexible. All-in-all, a great buy, you won’t be disappointed.

This camera takes excellent pictures for a point and shoot. The price is unbeatable and the sleek design is way too cool! Sony DSC W90 is far better than my old Olympus F30 which I sold after a few months because it was a waste of money.
