Sony T100 is a fancy slick camera for day time shots. At a dinner party, my girlfriend’s Casio EX-Z750 produced a much clear pitures than mine.

I bought this Camera just a year back. The picture quality is not better than my old 3.2 pixel camera. Recently the camera failed with CCD Sensor failed. Sony is reluctant to replace my camera as the warranty just got expired and T100 is not listed in CCD Sensor problematic products.

Bought the camera in March 2008 had it 20 days and the shutter broke. Took it back under the warranty and it was in the shop for over a month. Just got it back last week, and now my SONY Viao computer (with windows vista) won’t recognize the camera when I plug it into the USB port. Re-installed the software for the camera but still cant find/load the usb driver for the camera. Can’t find any information or support. Also, every 3 or 4 picture I take has a ‘data error’ and must be deleted. I will never buy another sony camera ever again.

I purchased this camera in June of 2007 and had nothing but problems. I couldn’t get good pictures, thought it was me, but then realized the camera must have been sold to me damaged. Sent it in to get fixed and still had problems. Lines were showing up on my pictures and they were not usable at all. I am so disappointed. The store replaced my T100 with a T200, we’ll see if we have better luck.

My wife and I have had this camera for over 9 months. The throwaway cameras have a better picture especially indoors. I emailed Sony and they told me what to try. I downloaded the manual and used all the tricks. The pictures are not sharp. I downed to 5MP, that didn’t help. Something isn’t right. I have a 4 year old Sony DSC-V1 that takes better pictures. I wanted something smaller and up to date.

I have owned the T100 for a few months and find that the pictures taken were crisp and sharp and even with low lights, the results were still very good as most of the pictures taken (even indoor) were without flash on. Excellent for people without experience with cameras.

Thought this would be a world apart from my old Casio 7mp exlim, but it isnt, the movie mode doesnt look as crisp/clear, and the images are not as sharp as i expected.

My first digital camera was an old Konica 3.2mp camera which cost me £60, which somehow gave me far better colour and overall picture quality than my Sony.

Also purchased the HD docking station, but doesnt shoot in 8 mega pixel mode for HD! it reduces it down to something like 3 mega pixel, so not as high resolution as you would expect erm… high resolution photography!

Its a stylish camera and decent enough for parties, festivals etc which what i use it for. but for this price surely theres better compact cameras out there?

Got this camera couple weeks back and it is really impressive. In view of such small size it is a real nifty camera with a lot of options.

The shots taken from this are reallly crisp and clear with the timing being very swift.

Controls are easy to use, editing is fun with the editor, the HD output is a real plus, especially when I watch it on my new SAMSUNG R7 LCD TV, really great colors. So alive and bold.

Anyhow I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a slim device with big capabilities.

    Have fun!

Bluetooth is one of the options that I would like to see in this camera because as one of the users of sony cameras I always have problems with all the cables that this camera has for transferring pictures/videos on my laptop, so in the next model I really want to see the bluetooth option because it makes life a lot easier for all users

  11. Dissatisfied with T100

    August 31, 2007 @ 9:23 AM

I am totally disappointed with the T100. I’ve got it for a week now and I just cannot get it to give me clear pictures. I had the T1 before this and I really expected the T100 to be far more superior to any other compact camera available on the market. I’ve compared it against the latest compact Pentax, and to me the Pentax has got more useable features and is also more user friendly. The pic’s from the Pentax look alive with colour and detail.

The design and feel of the T100 is excellent and because I had a T1, I decided to go for the T100. My biggest concern with it is that no matter what I try, all pictures look a bit misty. The T100 should give you outstanding night pictures according to all the reviews, but that is even worse. Sony, what went wrong?

For all the good reviews I’ve been reading about this camera I have had extremely bad luck with it. My pictures are always blurry and the color is always off. For a point and shoot camera it certainly takes a lot of work. The large screen is very nice and clear, too bad the pictures aren’t The menu is difficult to get around in and the review button is too small and should be located somewhere else. All in all I’m so sorry I bought this camera. Has anyone else had a problem with the DSC T100? Maybe someone can tell me what I’m doing wrong, if anything!!!

  20. Best All around Camera I've ever owned

    By: Jon Drake
    July 21, 2007 @ 10:12 PM

I’ve tested 3 other sub compact cameras before buying this one..I bought the T100 for these reasons:

    - Large 3" screen.. ease of framing shots, also instant replay of photo just taken

    - 5X zoom really works well

    - In camera trimming/cropping feature is

easy to use; choose 8, 5 MP for the recording.

-I like the compact size.. slips easily into a shirt pocket.

-I take most photos in available light.. flash not required… the screen ‘brightens’ when you take a photo.

    - The movie mode is very natural.. also the sound reproduction is excellent.. also like the ability to ZOOM in or out of the movie as needed.

-The optical stabilization really works well.. note: I also use a lanyard around my neck to further stabilize the photo.

-I use the 8MP for most photos, 3MP for Ebay.

-Macro setting 1 and 2… 2 is super close with excellent results.

-Face Detection mode puts lighted squares around faces in your photo… works very well provided you have sufficient light; faces in the photo are very clear.

All around great camera. I mainly use this inside the Sony marine pack which makes this camera great for fishing pictures and scuba diving. I mostly fish at night and the pictures are bright and clear unlike previous cameras I owned. Then, after the fishing trips you just take it out of the case and it slips right into your pocket.

A few weeks ago we bought our daughter an Olympus 770sw camera. We had very high hopes because of it’s durability and underwater ability. Unfortunately the images were horrible. The noise was very difficult to control. For a 13 year old, we wanted a camera she could just ‘point and shoot’. We returned it and bought the DCS-T100 and we’re thrilled with it. It’s very easy to handle and the images are excellent. One of the reasons for buying this model was the availability of an underwater housing. I may buy another for my other daughter.

If you don’t mind spending the extra money on the Sonys newest thin-line T series, it can be well spent money. The best new improvements for Sony was their work on the ISO speeds. Flaunting an impressive 3200, the camera is one on the few available to consumers at such a speed, and Sony has extended this to many of newer models, starting the with W80. The day of purchase, I took it to an outdoor night concert to try out this improved ISO range and found it to be quite effective. The stage was the primary light in the shot and everything on stage came in clear and reasonably bright. The speed of the camera is impressive at the least, and after experimenting with some outdoor burst shots, I found it to be effective for about 4 out of every 5 action shots. As a consumer who doesnt own an SLR i cant compare the qualities to something of this caliber, but i can say that for a point and shoot, its more than impressive in its speed, quality and low light abilities.

  26. Worst Possible camera you will ever get

    June 22, 2007 @ 10:58 AM

I recently bought Sony DSC-T100. After using few days and taking more than 400 pictures in all possible settings I am totally disappointed over its performance. Among the 400 pictures I have taken (mostly at 8MP resolution) not even a single picture comes out good. I have used several digital camera s for past 6 years since the primitive years and never seen such a bad camera. The Labtec 2MP camera I bought 3 years before for USD 50 produces better picture than this Sony. Hi you need to zoom the picture to actual size (100%) to see its bad quality picture. I hope the unit I got may have a manufacturing defect and now send to Sony service centre in Dubai (Jambo Electronics). If they say this camera do not have any problem then I have only option to destroy this junk becaus I got irritated and my blood pressure rises every time I saw this camera. The only one mark I have given to this camera for its excellent high resolution display & battery like because I bought this camera to take pictures not to watch movie on a good screen. I would advise not to even think of this camera.

I bought a samsung NV-10 3 weeks ago, but hated the fiddly menu buttons amongst other things. After reading reviews, I sold the NV-10 and added a bit more money for the Sony T-100. There are still things I miss from the Samsung, like manual settings, but the most important thing is picture results. The Sony impressed with all types of photos, and the steadyshot works great when using the 5X zoom. The only thing I disliked was having to take the battery out every time you charged it. Sony could have supplied some way of charging the battery whilst still in the camera – (cradle or USB charging), and the aforementioned lack of manual settings.

  29. Using the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100
    Helen South

    By: Helen South
    June 10, 2007 @ 4:02 PM

Finally got it & I’m in love already! Have only been using it for 8 hours, but overjoyed by it’s quality. So far, I’ve shot off over 300 images.

Yes! The Zeiss lens is brilliant on both long distance scenic & close up cats / flowers. Very sharp definition even of hills a long way away with the sun setting over the hills behind a bank of very heavy cloud. Have not seen definition of this quality since I last operated my Voigtlander slide camera in my long lost youth, it would have almost certainly had a Zeiss lens.

The flash is easily programmable for different levels & is outstanding in my opinion. The camera seems to be able to "magnify" the amount of natural light to capture both close-in & long distance shots taken at dusk when any other digital cameras I’ve seen / used would have failed hopelessly under the natural light available.

LOVE the 3 inch (diagonal) screen. Have not had a chance to test it yet in bright sunshine, but it is excellent in all other conditions.

Also has an excellent grid to help people who habitually have one leg shorter than the other (my sales team’s worst attribute). The image stabilisation system works beautifully – shots that should have been fuzzy due to lack of steadiness on my part or sudden animal movement, came up perfectly clear just about every time. You would have to be shivering pretty violently to get a fuzzy image, I reckon.

Colours appear true (with a couple of exceptions) on screen, but I have not yet actually printed an image. If I had to come up with a criticism or two: … the camera is very small, although the buttons are not too small. The feeling I get is the size of both camera & buttons suggest it is more a woman’s camera than a man’s. The other matter that takes a little practice is making sure your left hand fingers don’t get into the photo. The lens is positioned high up in the left hand corner & you tend to hold the camera there with fingers hanging over the edge & getting caught in the image. You soon remember to adapt your hold to avoid this. You also need the wrist strap due to the smoothness & smallness of the unit, otherwise you are likely to drop it.

I will continue testing its capabilities, but at this stage I’d have to say that I’ve finally found a digital camera I feel happy with. The combination of it & my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 will make a pretty powerful window display team for my real estate agency I think.

However, I’m having problems with its battery. (NP-BG1). It takes me more time to charge it (5hours) than to use it (less than 4hrs) and I have to spend about $40 for a spare battery.

I bought a T-100 after about 2 months of research on digital cameras. The T-100 is fine. It’s got several interesting features to play with; fish eye effect, partial coloring, etc. but all the loadings and processing is not so fast… it is not THAT slow, but I have missed few good pictures because of its slow reaction. And t-100 sort of lacks the grip. I don’t have a big hands but it’s not so comfortable to grip. I think I would have bought something else, like Nikon S7…

I bought it mostly because it was a Sony (reputation) and due largely in part of positive reviews. After a month, I’m really not that impressed with it. The distabilizer isn’t much to brag about and pic quality is average. The battery remains charged for a very long time…that’s one outstanding feature. Also, wish they had made it a bit thinner (the more compact the better!) In a nutshell; aside from the battery (and easy to use features)everything else is just average.

Excellent camera. Worth the buy. HD picture quality with ISO3200 beating out the 1600s.

Zooming improvement will be nice but cant expect such a high zoom with this small of a camera. Also if you buy the waterproof case, its even more fantastic. It doesnt matter how many megapixels it has but this camera was sure worth the buy. Good quality even at night with no grains if you know how to use it. nice aperture of up to f/10. In a small compact digital camera this beats out most of the cameras.

This camera came with a wrist strap as did my DSC-T7 which is not good for an active person. I added a strap used for eye glasses to the wrist strap so it hangs on my neck and can be put in a shirt pocket. I do archeology, guitarmaking, blacksmithing etc, etc., hands are needed. The DSC-100 is an amazing leap in technology fron my old Sony Mavica. My good old Mavica has seen heavy use and works great. I had a malfunction caused by a defective 3.5 floppy in my Mavica but got the floppy out with an artists palate knife. Memory sticks are a great improvement, if they are not lost, because of their small size or eaten accidentally with chips and dip.

Bought mine at HK. 3190 hk came with 1 gig, case, tripod and cleaning kit. I got an ok deal since I also about 2 dsr nikkon d80, so i made them alot of business. I got the it about the same price as you would on ebay. about $410 usd. Bought it on May 07. Used it for 1 day in disneyland HK. Took about 250 pics off 1 original battery. Even thought the box as 340 shots, but how often you going to take 250 shots in 1 day? Very clearn pics, The zoom is very clear at 5x zoom. I took a pic about 100 feet away with the zoom and it came out super clear, was even able to see the price tag on the item. ( that is after zooming it in %500 times in the computer ) So far this beats the other cameras i had, ( canon s30, s50, oyyplus. ) very nice point and shoot cam. Very big lcd screen. Almost as good as the d80 but only 70% cheaper.

I can’t believe you would downgrade the review because of not providing a cable. What does that have to do with the quality or performance of the camera? I love mine.

  42. Very Good Camera For Photo and Video
    Johnson

This camera is very good. I have purchased it after a long survey and study through the Internet and review sites like Steve’s, dpreview etc. I purchased it with a 3 year warranty from Vijay Sales Mumbai for Rs.24500 without the carrying case. Same is available for Rs.17000 in other shops but without warranty.

Lowest price seen was at Singapore Naranjan Shop ($560), Little India Area. Bought 4GB card @ $148 and extra battery @$75 from Musthafa Centre, Singapore. Lowest rate seen for the 4GB card is at a shop in SIM LIM square @$118.

The Camera records good pictures if the settings are done properly. It records good quality video too – the reason to purchase the extra battery and 4GB card.

  43. Poor indoor performance

I’ve had the camera for a week and did some test shots vs my W1. The indoor shots are unusable. Too much noise – this seems to be the common concesus on this camera. With flash, the ISO jumps too high. I’m disappointed because this camera has all the specs and features I was looking for and boy, does it look good. I guess I can fool around with the ISO setting each time before I shoot, but come on, it’s a P&S. I have to relunctantly return this camera, but now I’m stuck as to which camera I will buy.

  44. Best all-around compact out there!

    - Impressive image quality outdoors.

    - Good low light performance with quiet little noise for this class (not as good as the f31fd but better than IXUS and EXILIM.)

    - 5x zoom in movie mode.

    - Very good macro function.

    - Possibility to take HDR pics.

    - Very good continuous shooting mode (no picture limitation).

    - Face detection works well (8 faces max.)

    - Bright and big LCD screen.

All in all best mix of image quality and features in it´s class!

This camera produces highly detailed images for day time pictures. On the other hand, you really have to keep a steady hand at night, otherwise your images will be distorted.

  46. Some more thoughts
    Baig

I gave this camera 9 out of 10. But sorry to say I have to review my review. Yesterday I took this camera out at night with my kids and took some out door snaps. Strange, in auto mode and flash on the camera shifts to 800 iso with all kind of noise and there is no way to control it. Even in a reasonably lit room it shifts to 400 iso with flash on which introduces noise. So all you can print is a 5×7 pic. I think the problem is the low intensity flash which requires high iso. I tried to lower iso in P mode but even with flash on and compensation to +2 the images produced were dark. So if you want to do some outdoor activity at night just forget it. Nothing was mentioned in the review about this serious limitation.

I really wanted to like this camera.

It DOES take great photos in daytime. However, my qualm with this camera is dim lighted areas with flash. I was hoping the problem with the white orbs would have been fixed with these newer models, but unfortunately its not.

If you don’t mind random white spots in your picture..then the camera is okay. But my feelings are that cameras shouldn’t have that defect. So unless you don’t mind photo shopping those circles out, then go for it.

By the way, the W90 also has this white orb problem. :(

Pros: Good value for money! x5 zoom, good battery life, 8 MP, great movie quality, huge screen.

Cons: bad quality pictures at night. High ISO is very noisy.

I got this camera a week ago and should admit I am quite satisfied with it. I was planning to buy T10 as some of my friends are using it and pictures are amazing. But when I went to the store I saw T100 which was just shipped and I fell in love with this camera. Really good quality pictures during day time. I am sure you gonna enjoy this camera! …

I already have a Canon A640 but needed a real compact, almost bought SD800 is but left it after testing it in the shop due to almost no low light capability. Bought T-100 on its face value from B&H (paid $80 for shipping to Pakistan). I am happy that I bought it. Very good for indoor party shooting in auto mode. However for best results put the ISO at 800 or 400 in the Programme Mode, adjust the white balance and shoot (keep your hands steady. Macrp mode is very good, better than A640.Good strong body, I have already dropped it once on hard surface, still working well.

Just got one from a friend that works at a video store. I love it so far. It takes great pictures, has a wonder optical zoom, and reloads the flash quickly after taking a picture. Kind of on the spendy side though.
