It was nice when it worked

Two years ago when I finally got a real job, I decided to buy myself a nice surround system (~$500), this Sony Dream System. And it was very nice, I was a little disappointed at how slow it was cycling from one disc to another when you play cds on shuffle, but other than that video performance was excellent, and the sound was more than adequate for my one bedroom apartment. I was happy with my purchase.
As time went on problems began to arise. I noticed that if I forgot to turn the maching off and it just sat idly turned on for several hours, it would no longer play cds or dvds. I would have to turn it off for a couple hours to “cool down”. This was slightly annoying, then over more time it wouldn’t even power down, but blink on “stand-by” for sometimes hours before actually powering down. It has lately begun freezing in the middle of movies and I’ve ceased even bothering to watch dvds anymore. It still plays cds fine, but with the same problems as mentioned above. After only two years of use, I’ve become fed up and replaced it. Perhaps I just had a lemon, but looking at the other reviews, it seems this whole systems is riddled with malfunctions.

I purchased the Sony DAV-FC7 because of Sony’s reputation and quality…and when I got home I found out just how right I was. The DAV-FC7 sounds especially incredible especially when utilizing a DTS DVD. as for the other review saying the speakers sounded Tinny…hehehe, I suggest he learn to read the directions correctly and use a quality DVD with great audio options…Nothing but NET for this Product!

I purchased this thing because it looked good, but after I got it home and got everything step up, it just sounded kind of tinny. I returned it and purchased the Panasonic SC-HT900 for about the same price. The Panasonic has better speakers (2 way vs. the Sony 1 way) which are also on their own towers.
