I’ve had the same problem with this camera. If I had known this problem ahead of time I wouldn’t have perchased it. Video quality is key for any type of camcorder. Also the video and photos are too grainy. I believe Sony can do much better for the price. After all, their reputation depends on it.

I have the DCR-SR100 and love it except for one thing. The video taken with the camera, and transfered to a DVD, plays as a series of individual video clips rather than seemlessly as a movie or TV show should. I wonder if I am doing something wrong. Is there software I can buy to correct this? I have read the manual many times and can find no way to correct this problem. My score will be a 10 if I can fix this.

Very good review and some surprising results. There is as far as I can see no excuse for the sharpening issues in DVD405/505 anymore. The compression is nearly the same as well as the CCD in the S100. I have been investigating the video performance of the 405 and find it somewhat annoying. The SDR-SR100 or SR90 as its european sibling is called is in that respect a positive surprise.
An intersting reflection is this one: this camcorder is capable of recording more than 7 hours of HQ MPEG video @ 8-9 Mbps. Wouldn’t it be a nice suggestion to introduce a “SHQ” feature on this camara that records in DV quality? One would stil end up with a capacity of more than 2 hours of video which is not bad att all. And what is next? A HC3 with HD? 2 hours of HDVideo on a HD? What would such a device be called… A HDHDV
