  1. DVD Writes Freeze ?????

I wouldn’t rave over my DRU700a – am using it with XPPro SP2 & Nero 6.3.1.10 Sony, firmware is updated. It seems to read fine on CD’s & DVD’s, but when writing DVD’s it imtermittently freezes at about 17%, just sits there with its Data Led blinking in unison with HDD Led. Reboot is only solution. Same problem is reported as a known SONY hardware issue on other forums. Pity – my Sony digital camera (F828) is great, but Sony seem to have spit the dummy on this drive.

I bought two of these Sony DVD writers, they worked for few months, and after that they are not recognized by XP SP2, only as DVD roms. Happened to both of these. I will never buy Sony again.

Worked okay for a while but then stopped reading anything and now refuses to write to DVDs.

For a major company I find Sony’s web site less than helpful. The firmware was hard to find and drivers non-existant. Diagnostic software is only for use in the USA and when I e-mailed them they didn’t even bother to reply.

As for the NERO software, it wasn’t bad but when I updated I ended up with demo software that expired shortly afterwards leaving me with nothing – and now i can’t find my original disks. Aaaagh!!

A real pain in the rear end.

I bought from Dabs.com for just £75 inc vat that come with Nero 6 software that quite cheap — when I installed and it right away as no problems at all – excellent burn into dvd disc within few mins. It has Auto formatting for any CD-R or DVD-R/+R, only manually format for rewrite disc and the double layer does work on my dvd player for playback, it great – Nero 6 seem lots better than Easy Creator 6 or 7 — you better get cheaper one from Dabs.com before too late.

It has so far presented absolutely no problems. The Black face plate is great for my PC case.
    I strongly recommend it.
