Good and accurate review here. Quality is top notch as well as ergonomics. Video is so good you can’t tell low bit rate and this cam is fine! I own it and it works great.

Very, very low quality camcorder bitrate!!! Canon and Panasonic are much better! I hate it because it doesn’t make good quality video! I am stupid for buying this camera!

Excellent video and stills – just superb especially when the results are seen on Bravia LCD TVs. Digital noise is a problem in very low light

But, besides that, it’s the best camcorder ever!

I purchased this camcorder in March 2008 from Abe’s of Maine. All of a sudden the lens began clicking and grinding this week and finally the auto focus failed. Sony is repairing it through the warranty but what a disappointment after spending a grand. On a plus, the camcorder does take fantastic video and is user friendly. No problem saving video to my computer hard drive and doing basic editing with the supplied software.

As with all things digitally recorded in HDD, one of the key factors in determining quality is “Mbps Recording Rating”. We can have a huge sensor, out of this world lens and a microwave in a camcorder but if it records in low Mbps then its pointless.

Whats the Mbps rating on each of the recording modes? Well it’s back to R&D I guess…

I’m about to step up my video production to semi-broadcast quality, and this was the best review on this cam yet. Gave me all the info i need to make an informed decision.

Very comprehensive review on all features that an average consumer needs to know about a sophisticated product like this Sony HDR-SR12 camcorder. It saved me a lot of time researching its pros and cons before deciding on its purchase. Thank you.
