It is a great invention of Sony. Nobody can leave it alone when they start playing on PS3. My cousin plays on PS3 the whole day. He says that he doesn’t want to go school because he can’t get my PS3 there and I don’t like to go out because I want to play it all of my life. It’s great!

PS3 is the best console ever. Though I’m a little disappointed that they only have the new 80gb and 160gb out. With only two USB ports and no chrome and no backwards compatibility. But other than that, the system kicks 360 butt.

As of today I really enjoy my PS3 (but currently waiting for games like FFXIII). Not only do we not have to buy a lot of peripherals (Nintendo) but as of now, the blue-ray disc R, now the dominant HD format on the market. The 360 used the DVD-HD format and required you to buy the drive separately. I’ve got family with the 360 and the Wii, and I find that my PS3 is better, faster and prettier than those other systems.

Unlike most people, graphics is low on my standards and I give more emphasis to gameplay and story if any.

Most of this is on the gaming side. On everything else, its like another PC in my house (A mid-high end one).

Wow. I’m watching Star Trek .avi movie on my Home Theater streamed wirelessly (g) from my PC’s external USB 500 gig drive with no problems at all. Set up took 5 min.

DVD up-convert is as good as my oppo 970 and it takes as many media as the oppo. can’t imagine anyone buying a media center PC when the ps3 does it all and more.

Best x-mas gift I’ve ever gotten myself.

Sony has definetly lost me as a customer. It was billed as backwards compatible. Not so; I bought the 80 gig system without checking into what Sony has done since this summer. The older 60 gig ones were backwards compatible but not the newer 80 gig ones. I am now switching to another platform. This has taught me a lesson. Companies like Sony are not truthful in their sales pitch. Contact to Sony has proven useless with no solution.

Sony now has DualShock3 controllers (which have force feedback), at 55$ (sixaxis is now 45$). The purchase price has been dropped all the way to 400$ (but that one has not support for ps2 games, but if you have a ps2 then its no problem. Plus updates have already fixed the “technical issues”, and virtually every ps and ps2 game is now compatible, also due to firmware updates. So please, if your interested in buying a PS3, don’t be fooled by reviews that are old, try to find ones that are more recent.

I’ve heard people complaining about the ps3 well where “Andrusha” is wrong is they have GREAT customer care. When my ps3 broke and I had to return it they were friendly and really helpful. I’ve had my ps3 for 2 years now, and it works GREAT no problems at all! I have an x-box 360 and after 4 days I got the 3 rings of death and I called Microsoft and they were not helpful at all and they seem they did not care, I would recommend the PS3 over the x-box 360.

Whoa, you can’t imagine how happy I was when Sony finally lowered prices for PS3. Little did I know that all of that came at the hefty price. For those of you who trolled playstation3 forums might already heard of it. After two months of use the ps3 will not recognize wireless controllers. Mind you not controller, controllers since I have 5 of them. Forget about reaching customer service, all I ever got was automated message about the volume and no one ever answered a phone. All controllers were charged and reset based on suggestions from forums but nothing works. At least in Europe they are replacing them but any buyer needs to be aware of this outgoing problem that Sony fails to report to its consumers. So to all of you 360 owners…we got our own ring of death…I would not recommend this product to anyone….go with a Wii

I paid $500 for this system and after 3 weeks the audio went out. The Sony store were I purchased the unit would not exchange it so I was forced to call the customer service line. When I called the service line and was hung up on three times due to high call volume. After the 4th try I remained on hold for over 30 minutes. Sony sent a carton for return. It took a week to receive. Unit was returned overnight UPS and after 5 business days not status on the repair. Called customer service and they stated it would take 7-14 business days? I’m looking at a month to have a defective unit repaired!! Customer service also told me that the unit would be replaced with a factory certified unit. I don’t want a used unit it should be replaced with a brand new unit!

Poor service, poor response, and defective products. I will never buy another Sony Game console. Sony needs to wake up and elevate its level of customer service.

The ps3 40 GB does not come with an HD cord. So I think that the 80 GB is better because it comes with the cord which is ($30), another controller ($50), a game ($50), and it plays ps2 games.

    November 27, 2007 @ 10:28 AM

PS3 is a quite a good console but I don’t like the overrated blue ray because there is not much difference between a HD-DVD and a blue ray. Like I was in a store the other day and they was showing the difference between DVD and blue ray, it was very noticeable that they decreased the quality of the DVD but the dumb thing was that they were running a movie which is on DVD right next to the demonstration. I would not get my own ps3 until a couple of years after its release because like all of Sony’s consoles they would become smaller and better. For I will stick with playing crysis on high on pc with no lag and playing Halo 3 on Xbox live.

I waited all this time for the play station 3 to hit the market. I was the first in line to get one. I got one the day that they came out, unfortunately when I got it home and took it out of the box it was busted. I called play station had to wait 3 days for them to ship me a box and then 7 days for them to ship me another unit. Guess what? 3 months later it broke again. Had to wait another 3 days for them to ship me a box, and another 10-14 days to get a repaired unit. Now it’s broke again. I am now fighting with Sony to get my money back. Guess what they don’t do that, but they can make me feel better by letting me know that the unit comes with a 90 day warranty and they will be happy to replace it when it breaks again. They said that the system keeps breaking because of the environment. I guess the mountains are not a good environment. I have ALWAYS supported SONY and their products. They have always made quality products and have cared about their customer satisfaction. I do not know what happened, but Sony should be doing a little more for a customer that has had to send back a $600 PS3 3 times in a year than tell them that there is nothing they can do, and there policies are set in stone. I can tell you this I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SONY PRODUCT! I would rather spend my money on a XBOX360 then a hunk of junk!

This could be the best game unit that ever hit the market because of its stable features that makes other game unit a Nintendo family computer. Even a Microsoft Xbox360 doesn’t stand a chance with the new PS3. Sony company did it again making the world stop to create a new page for the history of every gamer. And making every gamers fantasy into a reality. So PlayStation3 welcome to the world.

    November 6, 2007 @ 11:35 AM

I bought this when it first came out a year ago and it is by far the best “bang for your buck system”. It is superior in every way to its counterparts. Graphics are life like, even better on an LCD TV. The only reason people give it problems are that it has a lack of games, but every new system has this problem when it first comes out and its only a matter of time before that gets fixed. The games that it does have are great next generation games. Sony pretty much replaced all other household electronics with this system.

  32. Attack of the Consoles
    Gene Shoults

    By: Gene Shoults
    September 12, 2007 @ 10:40 AM

I have recently been defending the PS3 in heated debates over “Which Console is better”. Well first off all the consoles are great in different ways. However, if you are talking about performance and graphic wise the PS3 comes out on top. Yes, the launch titles weren’t great for the PS3 but this fall you have Assassin’s Creed, Warhawk, and Lair, not to mention countless others.

Why is the PS3 getting so much fuss if it’s superior? Well the price does play in a little but mainly Microsoft and Nintendo know that the PS3 is better than their consoles and they are scared, so the normal thing to do is attack and slander the PS3.

Now you have the right to slander anything you want but don’t be ignorant and talk about the low quality of a console that you haven’t even placed your hands on. PS2 did the best in sales last-gen and the PS3 will own this generation of gaming again. Period. This console has made me re-think on what “gaming” is; I will always be loyal to Sony. Buy this console if you want to know what gaming is all about.

  33. Beware the Trolls
    Bussolino

    By: Bussolino
    July 31, 2007 @ 3:30 PM

When you are reading these reviews, you should note that a lot of the posters here quite obviously don’t own a PS3 and are just here to pick on something they have little experience of. There is a rumour that these people are actually paid to do this.

I actually own a PS3 and I love it. I think it is good value for money because I use pretty much all of it’s functionality. I have upsized the hard drive on it, I used the card readers to transfer photos from my phone to it, I surf the web with it,the few games that are specifically designed for the PS3 are amazing especially when you consider they are launch titles, blu-ray movies look excellent, dvd look pretty good too, the PS3 is one of the best upscalers in the market. The device itself looks pretty good, I keep mine upright. The XMB interface is effective, clean and minimalist, it also doesn’t have any advertisements cluttering it up. The online aspect allows you do anything and it is as easy to use as any I have used on the PC.

In the long run, there is a lot more headroom in terms of space needed for games with blur ray vs dvd and with the cell processor. I am a software developer and I know how difficult it is to wrap your mind around the whole concurrent thing but when developers do and the tools start maturing I think Microsoft will do what they did with the original Xbox and just abruptly stop supporting it.

  34. It is truly the center of my *digital* world...
    Rob M. Kitchener, Ontario

    By: Rob M. Kitchener, Ontario
    June 22, 2007 @ 10:57 AM

My place of purchase had some great trade-in deals [old xbox (180) and 1 controller = $100 off the price, etc.] and I had been designing a home theater around getting this console for its blue-ray disc capabilities — blue-ray disc (via HDMI) is vastly superior to DVD and the jump is perhaps more pronounced than that from VHS to DVD. The PS3 operating system is smooth and sexy and you can tell that it’s designed to grow with the technology — it’s organic, almost, and any changes to come will integrate themselves seemlessly. Game-wise, titles are on the horizon which will utilize keyboard/mouse support and devices are already available to give you that option now with games that are not. Understandably, the unit gets as hot as a nuclear reactor and I’ve forked out the cash for a couple cooler fans that attach to both the front and back. With the heat problem in check, I’m rather stunned at how stable and glitch-free the PS3 functions… personally, I view the xbox 360 as a toy, the so-called "Elite" version as being a waste since it doesn’t have built-in HD-DVD and I see the Playstation 3 as being a true work of art, it’s beautiful.

  35. An excellent machine!
    Chris

    By: Chris
    June 13, 2007 @ 9:07 PM

An excellent machine at its best. The HDD, chrome, MS reader, heck, even the 6 USB ports for tons of periphials, IS WORTH THE MONEY, for those that are just now smelling the coffee, is a staggering (but totally worth it) $600 USD. I’m a practical audiophile and have tons of photos of my nephew, niece and my cats :) the photo album is a great addition. I also game online, and the built in WiFi (60gb) helps me do that. The only drawbacks are the ‘crime scene’ style shell and the current limits of the browser which (STILL!!) cannot play videos online for YouTube or Google. But who needs that, when you got a video menu too! And I prefer to have a system that won’t fry like the 360 or be too "fragile" like the Wii if dropped, (though it does weigh in at 11 lbs/5kg) and I personally like that SCEA and Sony put the XMB in the PS3 like the PSP. I prefer that over the ‘channels’ of the Wii and the "blades" dashboard of the 360.

    The Good: Excellent media system!

    Nice features

    The Bad: A little PRICEY

    Could lose weight

Where is the skins for it?!

The Verdict: Of all 600 USD, you’ll be glad that every cent of it is in it, and that is a good thing.

    Pros:

    - Sleek design
    - Free online
    - Decent launch games
    - Memory slots, 4 usb ports
    - HDMI

    Cons:

    - Ported 360 games for launch lineup
    - Big sequels very far away
    - Online is free but nowhere near as good as Xbox live
    - No headset or hdmi cables included
    - High price tag

The PS3 right now should be avoided, but by next year it will be a better buy

    overall 8.0/10

I love the ps3 with my 50 inch 1080p sxrd. I still love my Xbox 360 but it freezes up alot. Graphics are a little more superior I think on PS3 at least Virtual Tennis, and Oblivion. The Blu-Ray disc drive is alot more quiet then the Xbox’s screaming dvd-drive. Online is getting better each day on PS3 all in all I think PS3 will comeback in 2008 when game publishers learn a little more about the cell processor. I love this product.

  41. PS3
    Ben

    By: Ben
    April 26, 2007 @ 6:57 AM

I recently purchased a PS3, this was my first purchase of a game console, and I got it mainly for movies and music, gaming is secondary. The first unit went belly up in a week. I noticed that there is much heat produced by the PS3, maybe this was the culprit. I had the unit where it could get plenty of ventilation but for some reason it shutdown and would not power up. I returned the Unit to the seller and got another PS3, no problems yet. I am still bothered by the amount of heat that is generated by the unit. I am impressed with the construction, and all the media features, cooling fan is a little noisy but tolerable. The unit is pricey, havn’t purchased a game yet and they are also very pricey.

Blu-ray DVD plays with a green tint when running through HDMI cable. Sony has replaced it 3 times, and it still does it. Software is the problem, but sony refuses to acknowledge. Don’t buy this unit if you intend to play movies with it as well as use it for games.

  44. Definately a must have...
    Alan Locksmith

    By: Alan Locksmith

Since the announcement of the Playstation 3 I knew there would be conflict between the “seventh generation” consoles. I assured myself each of these consoles would have their strong points equally as they would have bad. I saw it fair that by purchasing each console and rating them fairly and unbiased, i could give gamers a true suggestion to which console to buy.

The first console i purchased was the Nintendo Wii (£179). I was firstly very happy with the pricing and knew this would be praised amongst consumers. As I removed it from its box i realised its small chassis and childish, yet futuristic appearance, now i was to try the games.

    I received “Wii Sports” with the console and was moderately happy. Though a few point held me from recommending the console too warmly;

    1. The sensor, this is always agitating to configure controllers or just keep your cursor on the screen

    2. The controllers batteries are not rechargeable

    3. The controller is motion sensitive, yet not always precise

Yet i could not base my main opinion on one game, so i purchased Zelda: Twighlight Princess. Good game but still has the same problems as i mentioned earlier. The Wii struck me as childish and a “more advanced eyetoy”

The second console i purchased was an Xbox 360 Premium (£279). From opening the box everything seemed pretty bland, yet looks were not everything. From playing the first game (Gears of War) i noticed very good graphics and relatively fast gameplay. I was happy with the remote and picture quality. The price was also not too bad. Unfortunatley the price shot up when i decided to take the Xbox online… I had to fork out an extra £90 for a HD-DVD player, £80 for a wireless adapter AND THEN £40 just to play the damn thing!! I was appauled at the abuse Playstation got for the price when i found out Xbox’s cost more when you buy the minimal components which the Playstation features no extra cost. Yet i still was happy with the Xbox generally apart from the features were not very impressive.

Finnaly i payed £425 for the Playstation 3 60GB. When i took it out the box i noticed the almost hypnotising glow and reflection of the chassis and the HUGE ventilation access. Yet i didn’t let the looks steer my decision. From turning it on i noticed the immence futuristic and advanced factors of the console. I then saw the on screen interface (similar to the PSP) and thought the playstation was definately at first look, very good.

I then tried the gaming. The gaming at first glance seemed similar to the xbox’x but after playing more, i realised playstation features a far more advanced gaming processor and a hugely more exciting, speedy and cheaper online centre.

I will now conclude showing pros and cons:

    Wii:

    Pros:

    - Cheap

    - Interactive

    - Good for children

    Cons:

    - Poor graphics processor

    - Slowest of the gaming consoles

    - Poor memory space

    - Childish

    Xbox 360 Premium:

    Pros:

    - Good Graphics

    - Quick

    Cons:

    - Very expensive when you try to match up to the playstation

    - Games not very exciting

    Playstation 3 60GB:

    Pros:

    - Extremely Powerful

    - Ultra impressive graphics

    - Extremely Versatile

    - Sleek and impressive design

    - Worth every penny

    - Free online gaming

    Cons:

    - Not many games (but its new)

    The Winner:

By far the Playstation 3. I took into consideration amazing games take a year or two to develop. Xbox has had a year and the “top games” are still only nearly as good as Playstations warm ups. The Playstation is an ultimate entertainment center and far more powerful than its competitors.

Just as the PS2’s release, the games were limited and doubted and that turned out to be the king. Im 100% the PS3 will take the crown and “Xboxers” and “Wiiers” will be rushing to get a Playstation 3.

Look, I have always been a fan of the Xbox and still am…I was thinking about getting the PS3 but my older brother bought one so i went and watched him play it..I saw him play Resistance:Fall of Man..I was not at all impressed..Gears of War looked a whole lot better…the PS3 will need a huge title to come out to be able to match up to Gears of War..Also, something i never really liked with the playstation was that the graphics always looked kinda choppy and rough, whereas the Xbox looked smooth with its graphics..and even though the PS3 isnt as bad as the PS2..I can still notice that..but I do have to give my props for the Blu-Ray and the media center and everything but still it wont be enough for me to buy one..but until I see a huge title come out..I am all for the Xbox-360…

  50. My Personal pos and cons
    James

    By: James
    January 16, 2007 @ 4:16 PM

There is no doubt in my mind that the PS3 is one heck of a piece of hardware. Upon taking it out of the box, I noticed the sheer weight of it. People made jokes about X-Boxes being used as murder weapons because of the weight…not anymore. I am currently on deployment in Iraq and have nothing better to do with my money than invest in what I love, video games.

I own the current two generations of the three major game consoles. Yes boys and girls, that’s the PS2, the PS3, X-Box, X-360, The Wii and a Gamecube. From the gaming side of the house I can say that I`m a bit unimpressed with the three titles I have for it right now. My roommate bought a 20 gig PS3 and I have a 60 gig. We tried to direct connect them to play Blazing Angels and they wont talk to each other. There`s no explanation as of yet. While the graphics are fantastic, I have yet to see a title that will put the PS3 through it`s paces. It`s a prettier version of the PS2. I`m sure when Visions (GT5) comes out I`ll eat my words, but until then…

From the tech geeks point of view, the ability to play Blu-Ray is the paramount. The PS3 will make my 23″ LG Plasma show every detail possible, and for that I love it. If you shop around, you might be lucky to find a BR player for 800 bucks. I got off cheap with a PS3. If I didnt already have a 360 and a computer, the PS3 would be the end all be all for me, but the harddrive on my 360, combined with Windows Media Center on my PC provides all the multimedia I need. I dont care to “browse the web” on my PS3. All in all, I feel lucky to own one, but in hind sight, I could have waited for another 6 months and it wouldn’t have hurt.

I have the $599 PS3 and it rocks. The graphics are simply outstanding and the frame rate never slows. People, please remember this thing was made for a high def. TV not for your mom’s era of resolution. So far the system has functioned perfectly and I can’t believe the graphics. I’m running it on a Samsung HD 42′ plasma and it feels like your driving the race car. In comparison to my Pentium D-930 (dual 3.2GB) with 2gig, of RAM and the ATI R1800 (256MB), the PS3 blows it away. There are “never” any frame rates problems with the PS3 and you never see a redraw, it’s all instantaneous. The new cell processor and the new video card must be insane! I highly recommend the PS3. 53. Same old story
    Stan

    By: Stan
    December 24, 2006 @ 1:02 AM

Sorry, I’m not going to buy a gaming console in order to use it as a “Multimedia Player”. I have my home system set up so that I can do several different things at the same time, such as surfing the web on my computer, playing a game on a console, and having the music I want blaring from my stereo, and each is individually controlled and independant of each other. For this reason, the fact that PS3 can do everything is not much of a selling point… I have individual units that can do their individual tasks better than PS3 can ever hope to.

So, this whole thing boils down to games. What I have noticed about games is that Nintendo has a tendency to focus on games for families and kids, Sony tends to focus on games for working adults, and Microsoft tends to focus on games for high school and college students. Although there are certainly exceptions, the trend is definitely there.

What this boils down to is which system is the better gaming console is probably going to depend on what kinds of game you enjoy. If you like Legend of Zelda, you are going to want whatever console Nintendo comes up with. If you like the Final Fantasy series you are pretty much going to be looking at Sony. If you like robots smashing each other into rubble, you’re going to be focusing on Microsoft.

    GanjaRules

    December 8, 2006 @ 2:23 PM

I’m a casual gamer not a hardcore one. I’m not biased and pretty much neutral. I hate Sony as much as i hate microsoft. I also have a Core 2 Duo Computer which i use to play World of Warcraft and watch movies. 95% of my gaming times is in world of warcraft anyway. 5% is on consoles gaming. So console isn’t my main entertaining system. The computer is.

I bought a 20g PS3 because of only few games im interested in. Gran Turismo Series and a couple of others.

On the old PS2, i beleive i only played 5 or 6 games in 5 years. Final fantasy, gran turismo, grand thef auto, thats about it. money wasn’t an issue.

I had friends who had moded their PS2 and xbox1 and had hundreds of games. but for some reasons i was not interested in any of those games… what it means is that despite the fact consoles has hundreds of games, none of them addicted me as much as the my PC did.

World of Warcraft and Starwars Galaxies we’re much more addictive than any games on any consoles.

What it means is this: You buy a console for a specific purpose, you must find what purpose it is:
If you want to play Gran Turismo you must do what you have to do (get a PS3). But you if want to play Halo, you have no choice but to buy a 360 or wait for the PC version.
If you want to play both Gran Turismo and Halo, you have no choice but to buy both consoles.

The only problem i see here concerns those who do not know what type of games they like and can only afford to buy 1 console. If you fall into that category, you have to evaluate the game line-up. Is this a game you must play ? is this game your kind of game ? Sure the 360 has much more games than the PS3. But do you like any of them ?
    Oblivion = PC version
    First Person Shooters = Mouse+keyboard
    MMORPG = Mouse and Keyboard
Gears of War = third person (i dont like)
Rainbow six vegas = great coop game but will be available to PS3 soon.
Halo 3 = interesting but most Halo end up on PC.
Dead of Alive = exclusive to xbox
Gotham Racing = exclusive to xbox

Gran Turismo = exclusive to PS3
    Tekken 6 = PS3

Fanboys will usually tell that one is better than the other. But if your smart and mature, you should understand that only YOU can tell what is best for YOU to play. If you like Tekken more than DOA get the PS3 if not get the 360. If you like both get both. No need to complicate your life.

  55. Worth watching out for....
    WarGears

    By: WarGears
    December 6, 2006 @ 12:04 PM

Fact of the matter is, all console launch games are *not* going to be the best it has to offer. I remember when I got the 360 last year (admist of the fears I may have gotten one of the defective ones), just about none of their launch games were even worth mentioning. It took the 360 a year just to get to the level of Gears of War, which in turn features medicore gamming but obviously pushes the 360’s graphics to the max.

One point of interest here for the PS3 is that there is a solid launch game that is worth playing : Resistance. While its not anything mind blowing, it does provide decent game play and solid graphics for a launch game. Much better than any launch game for the 360.

The PS3 appears to be one of those system that will have the greatest potential, if Sony plays their cards right. Its one of those system thats true power really won’t be exploited (if it ever does) until later on down the road. Its a system to definately keep a close eye on. For its features, and I’m not really caring for blue-ray or whatever, but the fact that you can easily upgrade HDs, install linux, surf the web, use mouse and keyboards, you’re essentially buying a high graphics power media center.

For now, the best system to get for gamming is the 360. For fun factor its obviously the Wii, for edgier hardcore games that are yet to arrive, it’ll definately be the PS3. We’ll see what 2007 has for us….

I don’t understand the hype around this system. I have an unopened one and after playing my friend’s it is going up on ebay.

Why are people bringing up blueray like it is a great thing? It is not even a standardized format. It is the equivilant of beta vs vhs. Sony created beta and they lost. There is a very good chance that in a year the standard format will be HD DVD and at this point they are outselling blueray by a huge margin.

I have an Xbox 360 and the graphics are great (especially Gears of War). Can some one tell me why 1080p on the PS3 is better than 1080p on the Xbox 360?

I think one massive advantage of the Xbox 360 over the PS3 is it’s network capabilities. MS Media Center on my primary PC opened up a whole new world for me. Now using the 360 in my media room I can listen to all of the music saved on mu computer and purchase more music, I can watch all of my saved movies and videos as well as look at all of my pictures and more. The 360 connected to Media Center is fantastic and something I don’t think the PS3 can come close to touching.

  59. Sony, always the best console.

    December 2, 2006 @ 1:28 PM

Okay, first off, I have to wonder why some people are giving the PS3 such bad reviews. It has no PS3 only games yet for one. I think people are just mad because they cannot afford one, and because of the release issues. PS1 owned the nes, PS2 owned the 64 but fell short to the x-box ONLY beacuse the x-box had a hard drive, and PS3 will own the Wii and the 360. Nintendo is past its prime console wise. The only good thing about the Wii is the controller. The games are the same as they have been for the past 10 years. The 360 has good graphics, but not alot better than they were before. The PS3 will make them both look like atari graphics by comparison, when the games start rolling out. PS3 is more than a console though. It is extremely comparable to a PC. 60gb hard drive, its own OS, which by the way doesnt have to be the OS you choose to use. Its a media center, music, movies, games. To those that think either the 360 or the Wii will be better, I say go ahead and play them if you really want. It will be your loss alone.

  60. PS3 vs 360 vs Wii
    Ray

    By: Ray
    December 1, 2006 @ 4:50 PM

I don’t care what anyone thinks. I think the PS3, the Wii, and the 360 are all comparable systems. No one will really knows the power of any of the systems until the games start rolling in. Right now, I’ve got to give the hands up to the 360 because it was released first so PS3 and Wii have much ground to catch up. If you haven’t seen Gears of War – an XBox 360 only game – you really need to. This game is so impressive that I have contemplated buying a 360 just because of this game even though I have been a sony person since the playstation first came about. I bought the playstation a year after its release, I had the ps2 on its release date (still have the same one with no problems), and I had the ps3 on pre-order but did not get it since sony had all the cutbacks on shipments. So I would suggest before saying one is better than the other, look at the games first, the game play of the games, and the cost. Right now, Wii is winning the cost battle and the 360 is winning in the gaming arena. Will the ps3 get back on top? Only time will tell. Hopefully, Metal Gear 4 will get them there.

How on earth can you critic this console if don’t own one? You have to remember that the PS3 is not one this gaming console on which you can only play. It’s a real media center. For the graphics, the PS3 doesn’t own it’s own games yet. It’s just a matter of time before PS3 gets the attention it worth. I’ve played to X-Box 360 and it’s a very good console BUT not that good. The graphics aren’t so extraordinary and the playability isn’t that improved. So you don’t like, don’t buy it. But you can’t say things that you don’t know. I’m not sure either about the PS3. The 360…I wasn’t so excited by it when I played. The Wii…the games look like anime, it’s a thing I never liked from Nintendo. But I will probably buy a PS3 because I don’t want to lose my collection of games.

After much deliberation I have decided not to buy either the x box 360 because of it’s noise and the fact that I will have to buy the HD DVD on the side and nor will I buy the ps3 on it’s price and the fact the delivered goods are no way near what Sony were initially promising. yes Sony are practically giving them away but still at $600 anyone who is going to buy one is seriously having to think if they are worth the money. With Intel and AMD racing forward with there technology and the new Nvidia 8000 series graphics cards on there way any day soon I would sooner spend the money on a pc which is far more flexible than any console could be. but there is the draw to the simplisity of the games console if I would have to choose one I would probably go for the wii.it’s far cheaper than either the 360 or the ps3 and withe the new controller it’s is very fun which show that it doesn’t need amazing graphics for the best games. to conclude as whole I think that the ps3 is not a bad machine but it has some very big shoes to fill and it needs some top spec games soon.

    Enigma

    November 17, 2006 @ 7:48 PM

By comparisons of hard statistics and hardware, PS3 dominates the competition. The cell processor and the massive wattage (more than twice that of the xbox360) allow for massive potential. But as of right now, the gaming selection is lacking. I personally believe that good games are needed to truely raise one system above others. After all, no matter how powerful the system is, bad software would render the 600 dollar purchase pointless. I must admit, however, that I do believe this system is destined for greatness, at least for about 5-10 years. Considering the backround of ps2 and ps1, I’m sure game makers will soon utilize the massive potential of this system with old namers like Final Fantasy or GT or GTO. As for the idiots complaining about backwards compatability and such, what system doesn’t have initial glitches? As far as I know, less than 200 of the thousands of ps2 games have small problems on the ps3. Besides, even this problem will soon be fixed via downloadable update. But, I would advise anyone not desperate to wait for a few months. Let sony work out the problems bound to occur and let the game selection build up before you burn all that green. Who knows, maybe the price will even drop (ya right).

…Sony are virtually GIVING this thing away, since it costs hundreds of dollars more to build than they are charging for it. This unit contains new-adopter technology that would normally cost $1000 at this point in the product lifecycle. It’s only because Blu Ray is so critical to Sony’s success that they need to take the hit in initial price. So stop moaning — it doesn’t get any better than this.

  71. ps3 comparison

when buying a console you have to think about it from a gamer’s point of view and this does not mean from a sony or xbox fanboy. The only thing that is know right now is that ps3 is going to be the cheapest blu-ray player on the market. The other thing going for the console is the fact that it has hdmi and supposedly free online. The xbox 360 has a cheaper price tag and has the option to buy a hd-dvd player to play those special dvds. The game selection at the moment is going to be better for the xbox 360 right now and in the future. The ps3 on the other hand has the problem that the good games coming out for ps3 aren’t coming out til next year if your lucky. The ps3 at this moment is having backwards compatibility problems. For sony to make back the money back on their console, everyone who bought a ps3 needs to buy 3 games and 2 controllers. No one in their right mind is going to spend that much. Especially on a 650 dollar console which is including ny state taxes and such. Right now the only reason to get a ps3 is to play your blu-ray movies and thats about it. If your going for it for the high def games and such well at the moment your selection is pretty limited and for those wanting to play your older games good luck on actually running them properly. I personally if possible will buy a ps3 not because i’m a fan of any system but because its a cheap blu-ray player and want to own a dvd player of both formats so that i can play dvds from whichever format wins the war. This is just my view from the facts at hand at the moment and a warning to all gamers and people looking to buy a new console, don’t trust the word from sony fanboys or any fanatics about xbox, playstation or the wii because their opinions will be heavily effected by emotional attachment. buy the system based on your needs from the system and as of right now its best to own all the systems because they all offer different pros and cons.

Dave says “I agree with this review %100. Go out buy a real console. Not this imported garbage. ”

Are you reading the same review? Especially the end part that said “We’re just looking at the beginning of something big here, though – a year or two from now, it’s wholly feasible that this will be the true player’s sole console companion of choice. ”

I don’t see that as telling people to get an xbox.

After looking at the Wii Review and the PS3 review..I want them both. I will likely buy the Wii now, and get the PS3 when all the hype is gone. I like Sony’s games overall more than Nintendo’s, and I think that overall in the long run that the PS3 will prevail as the better unit, but I’m sure Wii will outsellf the PS3’s simply because of price point. I would love to see aprice war begin for the lowest cost games for each box, I doubt that would happen though.

  75. PS3 VS the world (other consoles)

At this point it’s difficult to say if PS3 will be the overall winner (going by amount of unit sales). But at the end of the day most consumers purchase by content (games) and interactivity (online gaming etc). Convergence with media is becoming a big purchase motivator as well, for Sony this is a plus with Blueray. This is assuming Blueray popularity picks up comparing to HD-DVD in coming years.

With regards to Nintendo WII I’m convinced they have stepped in the right direction by challenging the method we interact with our consoles and by targeting new markets female, younger generation and price conscious.

I live in Australia and we are not getting the PS3 till March 2007, which will make it tough to enter the OZ market at that time.

forget the ps3 you got your computer to play the high rez HD games on. Plus you can upscale the wii to HD if you want. Why waste your money on PS3 just to support sony who is the leading member of the RIAA.

I think right now that everyone well maybe not everyone but a lot of people are underestimating the PS3. think about it sony has had a whole year to check out what the XBOX 360 has to offer and fix the PS3 to make it better in everyway. If you have or if you havent played the XBOX 360 you can tell the graphics are obviously good, very good. If sony dosent have as good of graphics or better, then sony really doesnt care to much bout the PS3 and how the people are going to like it. Although i maybe overestimating the PS3 in my opinion PS3 is going to be HELLA good and XBOX 360 dosent stand a chance!!!
