I have owned the Sony ES3000 for 5months now. Before I purchased it I read alot of bad reviews on this unit, they all had one thing in common, they stated some form of a humming issue. I found this not to be true. This receiver has very clean, clear, crisp sound at all levels. You will have to tweek it a bit to get it to sound killer. I can not say enough good about this amp. I have owned a high end Denon and this unit is much better. It has the digital drive which makes the sound being produces as accurate as it was recorded. This unit it very powerfull and has plenty of power. I have it matched up with Bose vcs-10 center and series 3 cubes front and back for true 5.1, it also has the ability of 7.1 even if you only have a 5.1 set up. This unit rocks, you will be very happy with it. Not to mention it has a 5 year warrenty.

Great Receiver

I used to have a Sony STR-DA50ES (5×120W RMS). Have changed it into the STR-DA3000ES (European edition: 6×150W RMS 8 Ohm), and I’m very pleased with the preformance. I have Jamo D590 (4 ohm) speakers, and have no problem with hissing sound.
The only negative thing about this receiver is that I can’t change the IR signal from AV2 to AV1. I like to use my Sony RM-VZ950 remote…

I have also an STR DA3000ES from sony. I heard lots of people complaining about a hissing sound with 4ohm speakers. I have the NX-70 speakers from sony (4ohm) but don’t have that really freaky hissing sound. The only thing that is correct is that the volume doesn’t go loud (checked this out with my other Mission 8ohm speakers wich sounded much louder) but the sound is really good & sharp. The only really shitty thing is the remote control. This is already the 3rd i have. (lucky for my I bought the Sony VIP garanty pack)
For the rest, a great receiver

Amazing Receiver

This reciever is absolutely one of the best recievers I have ever heard. Alot of people have complained about the issues with the power from the reciever, the manual, and a hissing sound. The manual is pretty bad but I do believe that anybody with a good understanding of home audio equipment can figure it out pretty easily. The hissing and weak power and actually related to each other. Look everybody, DO NOT hook this reciever up to 4 ohm speakers, it is intended for 8 ohm speakers and it says so on the back for a reason. If 4 ohm speakers are connected, the power output is dropped down to 90 watts (instead of the kicking 150 watts with 8 ohms) and the resulting 60 watts turn into interference, as known as an annoying hissing sound. If you own 4 ohm speakers and don’t intend on upgrading to 8 ohm speaker…DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS RECIEVER. Besides these ‘issues’, this reciever will blow your mind. The on screen menu is great, you can see exactly what your doing with the settings. The component up-converting for video inputs is a godsend. I have HDTV, and Xbox and my DVD player all going through the composites and a VCR with analog connections being up-converted. Along with that feature and the most amazing surround sound output money can buy, this reciever gets a clean 11 out of 10 from me.
