This has been a great remote for my family. You should be able to find it for under $400 dollars if you shop online or look for it to go on sale. The screen looks great and is easy to see in the sunlight. Just make sure to have this docked otherwise the battery life will sneak up on you.

I wish I could say it’s worth the money, but it is not. I bought this remote because my components are in a closet and I was limited on functioning thru the walls via RF Extenders. Battery life is weak, make sure to recharge daily. Constantly have problems and have to revive thru the internet. When it goes down it literally takes 20 min to reboot. Are you kiddin??? The pros: very cool looking and great conversation piece, also great when working properly. Research other remotes before investing a portion of your kids college fund.

This remote programs acceptably very fast with the defaults (not like the Pronto that took me many days to set up). Total setup about an hour. I always keep it on the charger and have never had it run out of juice. Annoying that there is no fast forward and rewind hard keys. I use these lots and don’t like having to tap the screen to get the buttons to appear, and then visually watch the screen while I make sure I press in the right place. Worst of all, the help button is in the top of the screen close to other buttons. If I slightly am off course and press help, it always turns of my front projector which has like a 5 minute cool down before it can be turned on again. Sucks but perhaps is more a projector flaw than a remote flaw.

One nice thing is the infrared is plenty powerful. It doesn’t seem to matter what direction I point it, even 180 degrees away from the rack, it always works. Perhaps this is because of the white walls in the media room or the large 10 foot front projection screen reflecting the infrared. Dunno.

Looks cool and is easy, so I give 8/10. 2 points deducted because of button issues as above, and because it maxes out at 8 units until you buy the RF extender (I’m maxed out now and cant used the infrared room light controls I just installed).

The primary reason for going for a universal remote was due to my wife being unable to simply turn our home theatre on!!!!! After extensive research on which remote to go for I decided on this Logitech harmony 1000i and I am glad I did. It has done all I wanted and more. After programming this unit (which took about 3 hours of fine tuning – not the 1 hour I have read before) I gave the remote to my technophobe wife and within 10 minutes had turned everything on and was able to switch from pay TV to DVD to free to air easily and quickly without ANY explanation from me. It is very easy (once you know what your doing) to alter the configuration and setup through the computer program. Probably the BEST feature on set-up of this remote was the help line. I had one little issue with being unable to figure out how to switch the TV from HDMI to LINE1. I called the help line with a very dubious attitude that I would even get a human on the line but I was very happily surprised when I got one of the most helpful people I have ever spoken to on a help line AND THEY RANG ME BACK!!!! UNHEARD OF!!!! They ran me through how to change this and that and were clear and concise on every little issue. I still have more programming to do on the receiver but all in all it was a quick and very easy set up process and with the help line there to guide you through I am growing more and more impressed with this item. It has taken 7 remotes and put them all into one. Exactly what I was after….. and it looks great too. Sure, there are bigger and better remotes out there that can do a lot more than this unit can….. But what do they cost and will my wife be able to use it without any instruction from me????? I doubt it.

I run this remote on a 3 zone system, so I Can access, XM Radio, TV, DVD, IPod, in different zones of the house. This is user friendly. With this complexity the unit tends to lock up at times, and you have to pull the battery out to fix the problem. Battery life has been fine, I did have it go dead one time, but it was not an issue. The unit itself is a bit fragile, needs stronger case or a cover; it would not survive a drop to the tile floor very well. My wife uses it well, and the help function is great, unfortunately I have to use it several times. The programming time was very long greater than 5 hours, but it could be the fact the TV, and receiver is all new release items and the codes are not developed yet for the remote. A great deal of programming had to be done for the HD cable remote, and the zones… All in all it’s a very solid tool, easy to use and with the exception of it locking up, it will fix itself.

Although pricey, the remote fulfilled my expectations. It took a little time to get all the activities set up and tested, but once I was done, it worked beautifully. My husband is technically challenged and he loves it! The help option is especially useful. The unit locked up on me twice, but Logitech support was very helpful. Have had it over a year. Logitech did an excellent job with this device.

First off, great concept. Very easy to use.

VERY POOR customer service for $500 remote, online activation and update process can wreck your remotes settings, slow response time, poor battery life, must look at screen to operate, tech support is limited to 90 day phone support followed by online email and forum support which is all but useless not to mention frustrating.

I’ve trying to get my Harmony 1000 repaired for almost a year. The last time I spoke to customer service I specifically said that I would be happy to pay to have the reemote repaired if they’d provide me with an RMA. It’s now been 2 weeks and I still haven’t received a response. I believe that Logitech doesn’t want to repair these remotes and would prefer that you simply purchase another one. I will but it sure as hell will not be a Logitech Harmony.

I have bought a lot of things in life but this takes the top list of them all. I bought a remote and tried to get technical support. They refused to give me support stating that its over 90 days etc and I explained I just got the remote. However in there system someone must have registered the product in 2007 and returned the remote and they can’t see who that was etc and I am to pay for the inconvenience. They want me to return the remote rather than fix this silly bug in there system.

    It’s stupid and silly.

I will never buy a Logitech product as they are foolish in my opinion.

The configuration software needs to be de-idiot-proofed. Would be so much easier to configure if it was just a giant spreadsheet with a few hundred options. I find myself bouncing through 6 menus with only a few options when all I need to do is change one little setting.

Also, a 15 device limit is far too few for a device with these abilities.

My rack alone has 13 devices, now take into account the three TVs across the house, the climate control, security, etc… have 21 devices I would like to control, but don’t have the ability to.
