Spotify finally rolls out the Discover feature for everyone

spotify discoveryIf you’ve been waiting for your music-listening experience to improve on Spotify, today’s the day: The streaming service finally made the Discover function available to all through its Web player.

Aside from having on-demand access to more than 20 million tracks curated by music experts like Pitchfork, Songkick, and Tunigo, Spotify users can use the Discover page to see daily personalized recommendations. The list will be based on the user’s favorite music, new releases from artists they follow, and tracks and playlists shared by friends and people they follow. Users can even find out when an artist they adore is performing in a venue nearby through show recommendations produced by Songkick. “With the Discover page, we’re making good on our promise of helping you choose what to listen to when faced with millions of songs,” said Gustav Söderström, Spotify’s Chief Product Officer. “We’ve made your listening experience more personal, more social and more current.”

Not sure what song to play next? Related Music will provide suggestions on what to sample based on your current track. You can also use the brand-new Audio Preview feature to discover new songs without moving away from the song you’re currently enjoying by clicking and holding over any play button on the Discover page. This will allow you to either save the track for later or play it right away.

At the moment, the Discover feature is only available through the Spotify Web player. The company says it will gradually roll Discover out to both desktop and mobile apps, which should be good news for the service’s 24 million active users and more than 6 million paying subscribers. Regardless, it is a convenient function to have when you’re using a computer that doesn’t have the Spotify desktop app. You can access the new update by logging into your Spotify account through the Web player and hitting play.
