If you’ve been checking your Twitter timeline since around 5pm PT, you’ve probably noticed it hasn’t updated in a while. No, those you follow haven’t all suddenly stopped tweeting – the social media site has an issue.

The company has acknowledged the problem, saying on its service status page, “We are currently experience an issue with tweeting and a delay in timelines. Our engineers are currently working on this issue.”

The problem appears to be affecting Twitter for mobile, Twitter.com, and also third-party Twitter clients.

UPDATE:

Twitter said in a short statement that it’s now sorted out the problem, though declined to offer any information on the cause. Here’s the statement in full:

“Between 16:51 and 18:30 PST today, users experienced a delay in tweets appearing in their timelines. This issue has been fully resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this.”
