Twitter can haz Lolcat speak?

twitter lolcatz

TWEETR haz lolcatz. The latest language addition to Twitter is the popular cat-inspired meme that took hold of the Internet and never let go. Twitter hasn’t commented on the language update since Lolcatz is in beta mode at the moment. “PLEEZ NOTE THAT TEH LANGUUJ YOUS CHOZE AR STILL IN BETA TESTINS,” the feature warns. Despite the warnings of any kinks, it’s a fun way to liven up your Twitter profile – granted you’re familiar with basic Lolcatz languuj skeelz. Otherwise, prepare for confusion.

If you want to turn on Lolcatz, here’s how to do it:

  1. Click the gear icon at the top right-hand side of the navigation bar
  2. Click on “Settings”
  3. Under “Username” and “Email” you’ll see a dropdown menu next to “Language.” Click on LOLCATZ and then you’re on your way to a profile page translated (for the most part) into Lolcatz lingo.

Most words in Twitter have been translated into Lolcatz, down to the Settings page, navigation, and even Twitter’s About page, including everything from the press center to security.

Since there really isn’t a language standard for Lolcatz that Twitter can refer to, it’s pretty much up to the platform’s crafty editors to decide how to translate English characters into this dialect. If someone is up for developing the Lolcatz language standard, or is an expert in it for one reason or another, the language option is in beta mode right now so feel free to send Twitter an email, check out Twitter’s Translation Center, or reach out to the Twitter team that heads up @Translator. If you’re qualified to do this, know that you have our everlasting respect.
