I have the all the Epic 80 sans the subwoofer (SVS 16-46CS+ instead). This system is terrific, when my friends come over, they love to hear it play.

I always feel immersed in the movie (as long as it is a good one) and now that I have SACD & DVD-A, Pink Floyd’s DSOFM and BlueMan Group’s Audio sound incredible.

The only drawback for me is some of the more high end treble bits can get a bit shrill when played extremely loud, due to the titanium tweeters.

Other than that small issue, these speakers are very focused and play very clean.

I have owned many top shelf pieces of equipment in my life and speakers are a passion of mine. They have come into my life and gone out as quickly as some patients. From the top of the line in Totem, Royd, QUAD, Meadowlark, Audio Physic, Maggies and Genesis etc. All were like wonderful visitors but some tired me quickly and they were ushered out into E-Bay or Audiogon; all except the QUAD 988′s and the Axiom M80. They have survived cut after cut. Perhaps the 988 are no surprise but the M80 surely is as speakers 3 and 4 times its price have been beaten by the M80′s.

They do need some time to run-in however and do not sound near their best until 80 to 100 hours. I simply have them face one another 6 inches apart and throw a blanket over them then put pink noise into them at a comfortable volume for 12 hours a day while I am at the office and play music through them at home. In a week you can hear the real spirit of these wonderful speakers.

They can be embarrassingly good for you but can bring out a smattering of jealousy in friends with more expensive speakers that do not sound as good. Be forewarned.

I have a pair of M80V2s and find them quite pleasing. They offer a nice range of sound and play plenty loud. I tried their VP150 but wasn’t happy with it so I opted for a single M3 and the vocals are much clearer coming from the center now. I think Axiom are a good value but I one day hope to trade up to some Kef’s.
