The words “MySpace” and “genocide” don’t often appear in the same sentence—usually it’s just “stalking” or “school bomb threat”—but today social networking giant MySpace announced a partnership with humanitarian organization Oxfam and nearly two dozen bands to raise awareness of—and funds for—the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan’s Darfur region. The Rock for Darfur campaign will feature more than 20 concerts across North America on October 21, online interactive promotions, and a public service announcement featuring actor Samuel L. Jackson which will appear in theaters in front of selected 20th Century Fox films, as well as on cable and online outlets.

AOL, WB To Offer Older TV Online via P2P
In an aggressive new foray into bringing television content to broadband-enabled Internet users, America Online and Warner Brothers Domestic Cable Distribution have announced a free online video service which will offer thousands of episodes of older television programming via the Internet using a peer-to-peer file sharing network controlled by AOL.
Akimbo Adds Hallmark, Outdoor Channels
Akimbo’s Internet-based video-on-demand service will be adding content from both Crown Media’s Hallmark Channel library as well as the Outdoor Channel.
Under the deal, family-friendly movies from Crown Media’s basic-cable Hallmark Channel will be available to Akimbo subscribers, including titles like Alice in Wonderland and The 10th Kingdom. Akimbo CEO Joshua Goldman said “Long-time fans and first-time viewers alike will be thrilled with the high-quality, family friendly movies available from Hallmark Channel’s library.”
