Alienware Bumps Area-51 ALX to 4 GHz

Dell subsidiary Alienware is known for offering high-performance rigs of particular interest to way-too-serious gamers and PC enthusiasts: today, the company has rolled out a revision to its high-end Area-51 ALX desktop rig that goes where no PC has gone before: it features an Intel Core 2 Extreme processor overclocked to an "industry-first" 4 GHz.

"The performance packed into the Area-51 ALX desktop is flat-out unheard-of," says Alienware product marketing manager Marc Diana, in a statement. "Alienware has always been committed to building only the fastest, most powerful systems available, and that’s exactly what we’ve done with the new ALX."

It seems like only yesterday when Intel annoucned its new 45nm Penryn CPUs (oh, wait, it was only yesterday) but now Dell’s boutique computer subsidiary Alienware has announced its new Area-51 ALX desktop system build around the new CPUs. And the Penryn chip isn’t the only oomph the ALX brings to the table: as one would expect from an Alienware desktop, the system features top-flight components all the way through…and a price tag to match.

Alienware Pushes Area-51 Systems To 4GHz

From Alienware’s press release:

Alienware today announced the immediate availability of 4.0 GHz processors on Area-51 ALX Systems. Powered by performance-enhanced Intel Pentium 4 processors with Hyper Threading Technology, Alienware’s elite Area-51 ALX systems surpass previous barriers on speed.

Area-51 ALX systems are optimized to reach 4.0 GHz clock speeds that result in performance increases of approximately 10 percent over previous 3.6 GHz processors. With Alienware’s rigorous 200-point quality control inspection and extended burn-in process, Area-51 ALX systems deliver smooth and reliable performance even at turbo-charged processor speeds. Excess heat generated by elevated processor performance is controlled by Alienware’s exclusive ultra-quiet Liquid Cooling technology, which cools components with specially formulated liquid and gold-plated, pure copper coolers. Prices start at just over $4,000.
