AOL, Yahoo Recap 2008 Internet Searching

AOL, Yahoo Recap 2008 Internet Searching

It’s become an annual tradition: toward the end of every year, the major Internet search engines crunch their numbers, compile their statistics, and (it sometimes seems) just make stuff up in an effort to present an overview of Internet users’ search habits for the year. Yahoo and AOL are first out of the gate this year, respectively announcing their 2008 Year in Review and 2008 Year End Hot Searches, respectively.

And what do these lists have in common? Why, that would be Britney. And a few other names you might recognize.

IE7 Malware Attack

You might be one of thousands who’ve received a new spam mailing offering you the chance to download Microsoft’s browser Internet Explorer 7. The mailing claims to be from Microsoft, sent by Microsoft Feature Offers.

But, of course, it’s not. Headed “Internet Explorer 7” and only containing a short description of the service, the mail simply offers a download link.

The idea is that these terms have a better chance of representing the topics Internet users are newly curious and passionate about during the year, and capturing the “spirit” of the year’s queries.

The studios will split the film’s revenue equally, after paying Microsoft $5 million outright and 10 percent of the film’s gross revenue.

Panasonic’s E-Wear hits the big screen

Panasonic collaborated with Paramount Pictures to equip the daring and beautiful Lara Croft with state-of-the-art digital technology to assist her in her latest adventure, “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” Oscarâ-winner Angelina Jolie reprises her role as the undaunted adventuress this summer in the action-packed sequel to the 2001 blockbuster.

Panasonic is launching a global promotional campaign built around the film, which debuts in the U.S. on July 25 and opens in theaters worldwide in August.
