Iomega Boosts Its eGo Portable Drives

Iomega Boosts Its eGo Portable Drives

Storage vendor Iomega has boosted its eGo line of portable hard drives just in time for Macworld Expo, pushing capacities out to 250 GB and adding a dual USB 2.0/FireWire 400 interface for connecting to a wide variety of systems.

Iomega originally introduced the 250 GB, dual-interface eGo drives at last September’s Apple Expo in Paris, but is finally bringing the drives to the U.S. market. The drives will be available in black, cherry red, and alpine white enclosures, in an effort to bring some style to external storage devices. "With the eGo Portable Hard Drive, Iomega shook up the industry by introducing fashion to a world previously known for little gray and black boxes," said Iomega president Tom Kampfer, in a statement.

LaCie, WD Debut Storage at Apple Expo

Iomega isn’t the only company trotting out Mac-friendly storage products at this week’s Apple Expo in Paris: competitors LaCie and WD also want Apple fans to check out their new storage products: a two-disk RAID array and a Mac-formatted My Book Studio Edition, respectively.

Iomega Rolls Out Mac Storage Products

Iomega Rolls Out Mac Storage Products

Storage and peripheral vendor Iomega is looking to make a big splash at this year’s Apple Expo in Paris, announcing a bevy of new Mac-specific storage products aimed at users of all levels. In addition to featuring designs that look like they could have come right out of Cupertino’s labs, the drives all come pre-formatted with Apple’s HFS+ file system, saving Mac users the annoying hassle of having to reformat drives vendors “helpfully” prep for Windows systems. Each of these drives also ships with EMC’s highly-regarded Retrospect backup software.

ViewDocks Put iPods on the Big Screen

Shown last month at the Apple Expo in Paris, ViewSonic today officially launched its “Made for iPod” ViewDock desktop widescreen LCD displays. Although no information about the products has yet been posted to the company’s Web site, the 19- and 22-inch display sport a 16:10 aspect ratio (offering native resolutions of 1,440 by 900 and 1,680 by 1,050 pixels, respectively) with 700:1 contrast ratios,5 ms response times, and integrated stereo speakers and subwoofer (2.5 watts and 3 watts, respectively). And, of course, an iPod dock at the base of the monitor, so users can watch iPod videos and view album art and images on the big screen.

Cingular Plans Mobile Music for 2006

Cingular Wireless, the largest U.S. wireless carrier, said it plans to roll out a music download service for mobile phone users in 2006, with fees which would be "slightly higher" than purchasing songs through Apple’s popular iTunes digital music service.

Cingular is currently the only mobile phone operator offering the Motorola ROKR, a cell phone which can play and manage up to 100 songs loaded into it from a computer running Apple’s iTunes software.

Guide to Help Cyber-Dissidents Beat Censors

With all the recent bruhaha in the U.S. about corporate employees being disciplined or pink-slipped over personal blog entries which reveal trade secrets or say unflattering things about their employers, it’s easy to forget that, in many parts of the world, the consequences of posting unpopular or unsanctioned material online can be much higher.

Apple Unveils iMac G5 In Paris

The new model, unveiled by Apple senior vice president Phil Schiller at the opening of the Apple Expo in Paris, upgrades the iMac line with the faster G5 processors already used in Apple’s top-end Power Macs. From Apple’s press release:
