SecureMac Reports Mac OS X Trojan
Real Mac nerds have always known that Apple’s Macintosh has no special immunity to viruses and worms—it’s just that the greater malware community has historically spent its time exploiting Windows. However, as the Mac has resurged in popularity, it was only a matter of time before serious malware began to target the Mac—and a new trojan reported by SecureMac may be the tip of the iceberg.
Apple TV Software Update Delayed
At this year’s Macworld Expo, Apple CEO Steve Jobs outlined a software update for the Apple TV that will enable the devices to operate independently of a computer running iTunes, and enable users to buy and rent video directly from the iTunes store on their televisions. The update was due “in two weeks;” that deadline expired back on Tuesday, and now Apple has announced that the software won’t be available for “another week or two” while it works out some final kinks.
Coming Soon to Apple TV: YouTube
Apple has announced that owners of its Apple TV will be able to stream videos from the online video sharing site YouTube beginning in mid-June. Initially introduced as a way to easily move videos from a personal computer to the living room for viewing on a big screen (or via a home theater setup) via Apple’s iTunes application, the YouTube connection marks the Apple TV’s first departure from the iTunes ecosystem—and may foreshadow Apple’s willingness to let the Apple TV tap into the rapidly growing world of online video.
Apple Debuts New iPods and Video Store
At a special press event today in San Francisco, Apple Computer rolled out a complete refresh to its iPod line of personal media players—including new iPods, nanos, and shuffles in aluminum casings as well as new colors— and introduced a new version of its iTunes software. Oh, and one more thing: the company is now offering digital movies for sale via iTunes.

At a special press event in Cupertino today, Apple Computer took the wraps off a new Intel-based Mac mini plus the new iPod Hi-Fi, a high-quality portable stereo for iPods.
