Bang and Olufsen Olufsen BeoTime Alarm Clock

How you improve an alarm clock when adding nature sounds, CD players and extraneous features like Bluetooth capability has already been done? Shape it like a flute and make it control your home theater, of course.

That’s the route Bang & Olufsen has taken with the BeoTime, an alarm-clock-cum-remote-control inspired – according to the company’s own PR – by the conflict between night and day in Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. A polished aluminum tube comes topped with three tiny square LCD displays to do the time telling, a pop-out lever in one end to activate and deactivate the disarm, and accelerometers within to fire up the backlight with a nudge at night, or trigger the snooze in the morning.

Bang and Olufsen BeoVision 4-103 103-inch Plasma Television

The Danes over at Bang & Olufsen don’t do small, don’t do cheap, and don’t do basic, which is why the company’s latest plasma television should come as no surprise to the cult-like fans who follow the company religiously. The latest BeoVision 4 set dwarfs the existing 50- and 65-inch screens that make up the line with a cinema-like 103 inches of screen size.

If that number sounds familiar, it should. Panasonic was technically the first to tread into this obscene territory with the TH-103FP9, released in Japan back in 2006 to the tune of $70,000. As it turns out, Bang & Olufsen’s version uses the same panel, which isn’t a total shock considering the dwindling number of plasma panel manufacturers lately.

Bang and Olufsen BeoSound 5

Companies that deal with music have finally tapped into one fundamental human truth: People are lazy. From services like Slacker and Pandora to Apple’s Genius playlists, music players are increasingly focusing on taking the work out of selecting and playing music.

Bang & Olufsen recently dragged the higher end of the market into the game with its new BeoSound 5 system, a “smart” player equipped with the company’s proprietary “More of the Same” technology. It scans your library of music and intelligently selects similar tracks to follow one another based on properties like rhythm, syncopation, key tonality, and vocal harmonies. Choose one song you’re in the mood for, and more will follow.

Bang & Olufsen Beo5

Ask a kid to draw you a remote control and you’ll get a candy-bar shape with buttons on it. That’s the way they’ve always been, and even modern touch-screen remotes stick to the same basic rectangular profile. It fits in the hand, it has enough room for a boatload of buttons, and it sits nicely on a coffee table. There’s no reason to change it.

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 4

Denmark-based Bang & Olufsen, world renowned for their combination of stylish flair and high end audio technology, recently introduced a new compact audio system which sports a CD player, FM radio and Secure Digital media card slot for music recording and playback. The new BeoSound 4 is, like other Bang & Olufsen products, only available for demo in an official company retail outlet.
