Bang & Olufsen Showcases Special Handset

Bang & Olufsen, a maker of high end consumer electronics, last week unveiled a signature series of limited edition cordless telephone handsets to celebrate its 80th birthday. The BeoCom 2 handset is priced at $1,000 for the more basic unit and $1,450 for a more limited edition which has unique patterns hand etched into the surface by Danish designer Bess Kristoffersen.

The limited edition BeoCom 2 handset, said Bang & Olufsen, will be available only in a run of 600 units, of which half will have the hand etched carvings. A new color specially developed for this series will be present on the exterior of the phones, and other features will include a unique shape, a unique ringing tone, caller id and a phonebook which can store up to 200 names and numbers.

Up-market electronics firm Bang & Olufsen and Samsung Electronics announced today that the companies plan to debut a new, uncomplicated, high-end mobile phone aimed specifically at people aged 25 and over. Promising a "truly unique product, which breaks with conventional assumptions and expectations," Bang & Olufsen plan to combine elegant design with simplicity, a streamlined users interface, and high-quality acoustics.
