Sony Intros New Bravia HDTVs and Wireless-ready Blu-ray Players

Sony is bolstering its home entertainment lineup with a number of new component releases, including new networkable Bravia HDTVs and new Blu-ray players that come with wireless technology for tapping into BD Live content.

“The demands of today’s home theater go beyond pristine picture quality and our new Blu-ray Disc product line offers a breadth of technologies that deliver an amazing entertainment experience,” said Sony Electronic home products marketing VP Chris Fawcett, in a statement. “Consumers don’t want a living room cluttered with wires and the new Blu-ray Disc product lineup breaks down the wired barriers of the past.”

Electronics giant Sony has taken the wraps off its 2009 television lineup at this year’s CES show, unveiling a line of new environmentally-friendly Bravia televisions, a new Bravia line with Ethernet and Yahoo’s Widget Engine built right in, and a slew of new models that migrate formerly high-end features all the way down to entry levels sets.

Sony Expands Bravias, Adds Internet Video

In addition to a selection of new Cyber-shot cameras, Sony today announced serious expansions to its Bravia flat-panels television line, and finally set both a price and availability date on its computer-free Bravia Internet Video Link, which will enable users to put Internet video on their compatible Bravia televisions without needing to go through a computer.

Sony Announces Bravia LCD HDTV Brand

Sony today added a new television sub-brand line to join its well known Trinitron brand. The brand, to be called Bravia, will represent the company’s line of high-definition flat-panel LCD TVs.

The first models to carry this new brand, Sony said, will be five LCD TVs ranging in screen sizes from 26 to 40 inches. Bravia stands for “Best Resolution Audio Video Integrated Architecture”.

To celebrate the launch of this new sub-brand, Sony has the Bravia logo on a right field sign at Yankee Stadium as well as recently launching a consumer HDTV education website.
