Adobe Launches New Video Player

Seeking to cement its role in distributing internet video, Adobe Systems Inc. announced Monday that it will release its new Adobe Media Player software as a free download to the public later this year.

Adobe’s Flash technology is already widely used to provide streaming video on sites such as YouTube and MySpace. Adobe Media Player aims to bolster the format by offering superior quality, the ability to download video, full-screen playback, a viewer-rating system, and tools for unearthing new content on the web.

Logitech, Adobe Unveil Navigation Device

Logitech today announced a new piece of hardware which was designed in collaboration with Adobe to better control the latter’s Mac versions of Adobe Creative Suite 2, Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe InDesign CS2, and Adobe Photoshop CS2. The new NuLOOQ navigator is priced at $149.99 and should be available in March.

The NuLOOQ navigator, said Logitech, is approximately the size and shape of half a tennis ball. It has a circular touch-sensitive surface for adjusting software option values, a moveable rubber-like ring at the base for navigating images and documents and embedded buttons for bringing up frequently used tools. Additional features allow the navigator to move selected images and zoom in and automatic detection and configuration of hardware controls related to the currently running Adobe CS2 application, object or tool.

Apple Makes a Switch to Intel

In what could be considered one of the smartest moves in Apple’s history, the innovative computer and CE maker announced that they would be dropping IBM in favor of Intel’s processors for their Macintosh computers. Apple is hoping to transition all of its Mac products to using Intel microprocessors by the end of 2007.

Adobe and IBM join forces

Adobe and IBM today announced that the two companies have signed an agreement to develop solutions to help customers improve data capture, document generation and delivery across the enterprise, by creating intelligent, digital document processes. This agreement expands the current relationship to include joint sales and marketing of document services to the enterprise.

This expanded sales, marketing, and development relationship brings the breadth of Adobe’s document services together with the cross functional scalability of IBM software offerings to customers worldwide. Combining these technologies into a heterogeneous infrastructure enables organizations to integrate document intensive processes into new next-generation computing environments. As part of the expanded agreement, the two companies will further integrate technologies across IBM’s portfolio of software offerings, beginning with IBM’s DB2 Content Manager and DB2 CommonStore for SAP, and moving to integration with IBM’s WebSphere and Tivoli software brands.
