JVC Brings Everio GX-HM400 Camcorder to U.S.

JVC Everio GZ-HM400

JVC launched its 10 megapixel flash-based Everio GZ-HM400 camcorder in the Japan during the summer, but had now brought the unit to the United States in time for the beginning of the holiday electronics season. The GZ-HM400 features a 10 megapixel resolution (it can also shoot 9 megapixel still images) and can capture slow motion video at 120, 300, and 600 frames per second—enough to draw out those action shots into epic masterpieces. Plus, the unit packs consumer-friendly face detection and optical image stabilization to keep subjects smoothly in focus.

When Pure Digital released the very first Flip handheld camcorder back in 2006 and promptly captured 13 percent of the entire camcorder market with a single year, the video landscape changed. Despite the ranting of pro photographers that little handheld cameras could never equal the quality of the real thing (they can’t), people overlooked the sacrifice in video quality for the Flip’s small size, ease of use, and low price.

Hitachi Ultravision Hybrid Camcorders


At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Hitachi America unveiled a new line-up of digital hybrid camcorders which combine the best of DVD recording with a built-in hard drive. The $800 Ultravision DZHS500A (30GB hard drive) and $600 DZHS300A (8GB hard drive) are available now and in April, respectively.
