In a gesture worthy of Captain Jack Sparrow, Internet pirates have fired a broadside against the establishment. The Swedish site Pirate Bay, whichspecializes in file sharing, evidently had had enough of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which owns the domain www.ifpi.org. So when someone offered them the domain ifpi.com, they happily took it up as a way of sowing confusion among the enemy. According to a Brokep, a PirateBay administrator, who spoke to TorrentFreak, the domain name was donated to the company, and has been registered as the International Federation of Pirates Interests. “It’s not a hack, someone just gave us the domain name,” he said. “We have no idea how theygot it, but it’s ours and we’re keeping it.” Relations between the IFPI and Pirate Bay have been at daggers drawn for a long time over copyright violation issues. Accordingto an earlier report on TorrentFreak, the original IFPI had requested information from the Swedish police about Pirate Bay.

Pirates to Raid Consoles and Handhelds
Disney Interactive Studios has announced it plans a series of video games for launch this summer intended to capitalize on the release of its third (and, hopefully, final) Pirates of the Caribbean film. The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End video games will let player play both within and beyond the scope of the At World’s End film, as well as play off events and characters which appeared in last year’s Pirates film, Dead Man’s Chest. And Disney plans to role them out for every major platform, including Windows PCs, next-generation consoles Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, as well as the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld systems.
Handhelds to Open Dead Man’s Chest
Buena Vista Games, a unit of the Walt Disney Company, has announced that handheld games based on the forthcoming film sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest will be available in stores June 27, more than a week before the film’s release July 7. The games will support Sony’s Playstation Portable (PSP) as well as Nintendo’s DS and Game Boy Advance units.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest lets gamers embark on a high-seas adventure that parallels events from the upcoming summer blockbuster film release,” said Graham Hopper, Buena Vista Games senior VP and GM. “As one of the most successful handheld video game publishers, BVG looks forward to offering gamers the opportunity to take the action from the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise with them wherever they go.”
