Verbatim continues its push into the mass storage business with its new InSight Portable USB Hard Drives that sport a unique feature: a 32 by 128-pixel front LCD display that shows the drive’s name and free capacity, even when the drive is disconnected from the computer. The feature may prove useful for folks who are constantly switching between different external hard drives for projects—we’re thinking of audio and video professionals—as well as folks looking for easy way to track backups and other storage needs without resorting to the dredged masking-tape-and-Sharpie system.

Verbatim Debuts Quad-Interface Drives
Storage and accessory maker Verbatim has announced it is expanding its line of desktop hard drives to include new 500 GB and 1 TB models featuring four interfaces: USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and eSATA II. The drives weigh 3.3 pounds, measure 8.7 by 5.9 by 1.5 inches, use a black aluminum case, and feature 3.5-inch, 7200RPM drive mechanisms. They can be used with Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X 10.1 or newer.
Verbatim Packs 500GB into a 2.5-inch Drive
Web 2.0 apps may be moving us closer and closer to putting all our data in the “cloud” where it’s accessible from anywhere, but chances are you won’t be storing your entire 150GB music collection or 300GB worth of uncompressed HD footage online any time soon. SmartDisk Incorporates Image Histograms
SmartDisk Corporation announced today that its FlashTrax portable, palm-sized digital multimedia device now displays histograms, the graphic representation of the range of image tones in a photograph. Histograms are especially helpful to professional photographers when reviewing digital shots on location.
