Samsung Expands Hi-Def DVD Player Line

The players employ a digital process that upgrades the standard DVD resolution to high-definition resolution with 1080i, 720p, and 768p signals – the latter a Samsung exclusive in the category.

Samsung’s high-def conversion DVD players serve to open a vast library of DVD material to these consumers by up-converting a DVD’s native resolution (480p) to output high definition formats (720p/768p/1080i). Significantly, this process takes place entirely in the digital domain, which eliminates data loss and other artifacts associated with analog conversion.

Samsung Intros Three New DVD Writers

Samsung has developed its own multi-format technology that allows these new models to be flexible in the face of competing recording formats. The DVD-R100, DVD-VR300 and the DVD-HD800 support three unique recording formats, DVD-RAM, -RW, and -R, each with their own advantages and capabilities that maximize the product’s compatibility, performance and usability. DVD-RAM is the most versatile recording format available to DVDs and can adapt to -RW for playback on older units. Its non-contact optical pick-up ensures that each disc is scratch-free for repeated use. It also allows for a mixed storage of video, audio, and other types of data from both the PC and AV worlds. It’s non-linear characteristics enable unique features, like time-shifting and time-warping. This means the user can start watching a program from the beginning while the end is being recorded. In addition, Samsung supports both DVD-RW and DVD-R, ensuring the broadest DVD forum-backed compatibility available in the market.
